About the property

Best Rates, Prime Location, Adjacent Parking, Helpful & Caring Managment

Hand peeled logs, rustic beams, cozy fireplace, timber planked floors, and the warmth of furnishings from a time long past. In this owner operated vacation haven in the heart of Robert Redford's celebrated Sundance Resort, you will find the enchanting cottages of the Timpcreek enclave. Here is where North Fork creek cascades into the sunny open meadow, where the original stewart homesteaders chose to build their cabins, where it is still natural and unspoiled, idyllic and private, yet close to every convenience.

Pump out tunes on an antique player piano for a sing-along with friends, or kick back in a comfy recliner with built in heat and massage. Follow the lighted footpath along the creek to the sundance village; find the owl bar and a cozy table near the fire, take-in a new Film Festival movie at the screening room theater or enjoy an outdoor summer play beneath a star filled sky. For dining, consider the award winning tree-room restaurant or the renowned foundry grill - only a two minute level walk back to your Timpcreek cottage. Fall asleep to the symphony of sounds played by the stream beneath your window; awake to the glorious vista of Utah's sleeping maiden, Mount Timpanogos with its eternal glacier.

Walk or ski to the lift, village shops, country craft stores and restaurants - no car needed, and no shuttles to await. Whatever your family needs, Timpcreek's small cluster of creekside cottages has a place for you

Each suite has its own enchantment and all have the amenities of a luxury hotel. Here you will find a home away from home, with HDTV and high speed wireless internet. Relax in a jetted spa romanced by the light of a flickering fire while listening to your favorite music on satellite radio. You may decide upon one more day - but you will want to stay forever. If your looking for incomparable value at the world's most beautiful all season resort, Timpcreek at Sundance is the place for you.

About Robin Scott

It all started with a family vacation in 1968. My wife, Bonna, had spent the summers of her youth in Provo and later graduated from BYU. Six years and two children after our marriage, we planned a summer trip to the land of her memories. It was my first exposure to the majestic Wasatch Mountains of Utah. In a State known for arid deserts and colorful rock formations, verdant forests and Alpine meadows came as a refreshing surprise. I soon found myself dreaming about a future vacation home, perhaps with a picture perfect stream. There was land for sale, but none with creek frontage... the choice parcels were owned by the descendants of the original Stewart Homesteaders, and they were not selling their heirlooms. Our hopes soared when we learned of a small cabin originally built by Ray Stewart, the founder of the Timphaven Ski Resort, was available for purchase. Ray had picked the perfect setting, bounded by two merging creeks. The chance of owning an original Stewart parcel didn't seem possible, but there it was - all we needed was money.

It took some finagling, but we got it together (Thanks for the help Dad). At the time there were only a few scattered cabins in the little valley, then known as Timphaven. Comes now unrelated outsider's, the Jimerson family from California. But our Stewart neighbors welcomed us like we belonged, and those friendships have lasted a lifetime. [Continued below in 'Why This Property']

Robin Scott purchased this cottage in 1968

Why Robin Scott chose Utah

Our first Thanksgiving in the Mountains of Utah was unforgettable. After completing the purchase, we stocked the cabin with firewood and food and headed for home in California, naively vowing to return in November for a Pilgrim like experience in our own rustic log cabin. After driving all night through a snow storm, we finally arrived at 4 am. Bonna and I each carried one cold crying child across 200 yards of deepening snow that we remembered as a flower filled meadow only two months before. No heat except the fireplace and a wood burning stove, the roof was not insulated and the water pipes had frozen. Thanksgiving week was spent close the fire, Bonna kept a kettle of camp stew brewing on the stove - in the cold nights we look up to see stars through holes in the roof, the four of us huddled together as one in two pushed together beds under six layers of blankets. For showers we carried water from the creek to fill a primitive tank connected to the wood burning stove. I guess we did OK for a family of softies from Sunny Southern California. In the evenings, both kids piled onto my lap in one big overstuffed rocker chair. I read them stories by firelight and oil lamps---no TV, no internet, no phone, no distractions. Kids had Mom and Dad all to themselves. These and the next few years were our most precious family memories. The little one's grew, another was added, and they all went off to college and families of their own.

Robert Redford purchased the Timphaven ski resort in 1969 together with most of the surrounding land. He paid tribute to Ray Stewart by naming the base area lift in his honor. We tell a bit of Ray's story on our web site - how it all changed from sheep ranch to ski resort when he rigged up a rope tow powered by an old truck engine.

Ray's place is now our place, its where you want to be. The primitive cottage has long since given way to a charming three bedroom log home. Come visit us where the creeks meet.

What makes this cottage unique

A PLACE FOR ALL SEASONS. CRYSTAL STREAMS, MEANDERING THROUGH WILDFLOWER LACED MEADOWS, STANDS OF GOLDEN ASPEN, RUST RED MAPLES, AND GREEN BATALLIONS OF SPRUCE. TO SHELTER THE VALLEY, ADD UTAH'S SLEEPING MAIDEN, MOUNT TIMPANOGOS MAJESTICALLY TOWERING OVER ALL.

START YOUR SUMMER DAY WITH A JETTED SPA, THEN KICK BACK IN A SWIVEL RECLINER ON YOUR TREEHOUSE BEDROOM DECK. WATCH A DIPPER BIRD DIVE INTO THE CREEK AND EMERGE UPSTREAM, OR A ROBIN LISTENING FOR A WORM. AS THE SUN CLIMBS OVER THE EASTERLY RIDGE, THE EARLY COOL SURRENDERS TO MORNING WARMTH, BUT YOUR TREE SHADED PERCH ABOVE THE STREAM IS ALWAYS TEMPERATE.

TIMPCREEK IS A LONG WAY FROM CARES, BUT ONLY A SHORT WALK TO THE SUNDANCE VILLAGE AND A DELECTABLE BREAKFAST AT THE FOUNDARY GRILL. FOR AN EASY AFTERNOON, CONSIDER A HIKE TO STEWART FALLS OR A SCENIC DRIVE OVER ALPINE LOOP. LEFT FORK FOR TIMPANOGOS CAVE, BEAR RIGHT FOR CASCADE SPRINGS. THE FERN CARPETED ASPEN FOREST OFTEN REVEALS A VARIETY OF LOCAL INHABITANTS, MOOSE, ELK, DEER, BADGERS AND EVEN AN OCCASIONAL COUGAR. FROM CASCADE SPRINGS, TAKE THE SHORT DRIVE OVER THE RIDGE TO MIDWAY AND THE PICTURESQUE HOMESTEAD RESORT WITH IT'S NATURAL HOT POTS AND MINERAL WATERS. DON'T MISS THE CHARMING OLD WORLD SWISS COUNTRY INNS AND BEAUTIFUL GOLF COURSES. STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO CHECK-OUT PARK CITY WITH ITS HISTORIC OLD TOWN, GOURMET RESTAURANTS AND ALPINE SLIDE.

BACK TO TIMPCREEK AT DUSK, THE EVENING WIND WHISPERS IN THE TREES, THE SKY HAS LOST THE SUN, BUT NOT YET FOUND THE STARS. AN AURA OF FREEDOM AND FARNESS FALLS UPON THE VALLEY, AS IT WAS WHEN NATIVE AMERICANS GATHERED AROUND FIRESIDE CAMPS. THE WONDERS OF THE NIGHT SKY EMERGE, A JEWELED TREASURE, UNOBSERVABLE FROM THE CONGESTED CITIES BELOW.

ALAS, THE WAYS OF THE INDIANS ARE LONG GONE AND MOST OF THE STEWART DESCEDENTS HAVE LEFT THE AREA. BUT THE CARE OF VALLEY REMAINS IN GOOD HANDS, THE PRESENT STEWARD, HOWEVER, IS NOT A STEWART, BUT RATHER, ENVIRONMENTALIST, ROBERT REDFORD.

Gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was cozy. Well built and pretty inside and out. The scenery was especially amazing. Snow capped mountain tops and a river right outside of the cabin. Robin was especially accommodating and helpful. She helped with every question or concern I had from where the nearest grocery store was to where I could go hike or find tackle for trout fishing. She was super helpful and responded to any communication immediately. I have never been to the state and got a little lost on my way. Her directions to get me back on track were concise, every turn accounted for. I would absolutely love to come back someday. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I could have got a hotel but the cabin was an experience all it's own. No regrets whatsoever.

Fantastic Winter Vacation for the Family

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful winter vacation experience for my entire family. This cozy cabin is neat, clean and tidy. Robin, the manager is warm and friendly, yet extremely professional. My family thoroughly made use of the proximity of this cabin to Ray's Lift. Just a 3 minute walk to have some nice hot chocolate and back off to the slopes. Thank You and we will see you again next season!

Cozy cabin stay

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay at this extremely cozy cabin. Loved the decor and all the antique touches, cabin was very clean and smelled nice. Perfect location on this beautiful resort. Robin was very helpful and personable, almost like interacting with a friend instead of a property manager. Everything was amazing. All we talked about was when we could book this place again!

Wonderful, cozy cabin in a dreamy setting.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect for our family of four. It was quaint, comfortable, had everything we needed and was in an idyllic setting. We slept with the sounds of the creek outside our patio each night and walked the three minutes into Sundance Resort each day. We can't wait to return.

Perfectly Lovely

  • 5 of 5

I am almost reluctant to publicize how awesome this place is , as I don't want to share! Utterly charming, very reasonably priced, gorgeous and convenient location. So pretty that a Sundance bride asked permission to take some wedding photos outside it! A dream vacation rental. We loved every room, the clever use of space, the well-equipped kitchen, the thoughtful design (e.g. small windows looking out on trees everywhere, even when doing laundry.) We loved the antique player piano, which the kids pedaled and my husband played the regular way. We will always associate "Moon River" with this trip. We loved the carousel kettle - where did you get that? Even watching water boil is fun at Timpcreek! We enjoyed all the hardback biographies on the shelves - great to dip into. And of course outside this little house in the woods there is a rushing creek and a beautiful 5 min stroll to the ski slopes. Plus, the hosts were extremely helpful.

Storybook Setting

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I decided to meet in SLC to spend a Mother/Daughter week together. The Timpcreek Cottage was everything that we could have hoped for. We have all of the conveniences of home like Wireless, Direct TV, cozy fireplaces, washer/dryer and yet we are so close to the skiing and lifts here at Sundance. This was our first Utah ski trip and feel blessed to have found such a treasure. Thank you Robin--the place was very clean and very well thought out. We would love to return and bring more family.
