Old Log Cabin House 5 Miles South of Harrisonburg Walking Distance To The River

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,300 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house was originally a log cabin and housed the saloon next to the stage coach inn in Mt. Crawford in the 1850's. The house sits on South Main Street in Mt. Crawford and has a nice size backyard. It is just 5 miles south of Harrisonburg and is conveniently located off either exit 235 or 240 of Interstate 81, so this is the perfect alternative to a hotel while traveling through the area.

We are just 5 miles from the campus of James Madison University (JMU) and only 2 miles from Bridgewater College. Eastern Mennonite University is only 11 miles away.

This is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. This house sleeps 6 in beds and the maximum occupancy is 9 guests.

We check in all guests. Check in time is 4:00 pm until 10 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early check-ins, before 4, or Late check-ins, after 10 pm, and late checkouts, after 11 am, require a $20 per hour fee. These check-ins and checkouts require prior approval. No approval is $30 an hour and possible cancellation of reservation without refund.

No smoking in the cabin. No beer pong or Hookahs. Noise must kept to a minimum and quiet hours are 9 pm to 9 am.

Guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon arrival and a photo ID. For this reason, the person who makes the reservation has to be the there at the time of check-in, unless the contract is signed and arrangements are made for someone else to check-in in advance.

Because this is a real old house, there are things you should expect to find on occasion in an older real house such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, tiny critters and the occasional stink bug during certain times of the year.

All pet fee(s), early/late check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid. Pets are welcome, but require a pet fee of $55 per pet per stay. Please understand that by clicking on the pet button, you are only paying for one pet. The website doesn't have the ability to charge for two pets at one time.

There will be a charge of $30 an hour for guests arriving more than 30 minutes later than the arrival time that they give us on the day of arrival. Arrival times must be sent in the message thread upon booking.

No smoking in the property. This will result in an automatic cancellation.

Failure to show up/check in or contact owner before midnight of day of arrival will result in cancellation. Host reserves the right to rebook property if guest does NOT contact owner.

Illegal drugs will not permitted on our properties under any circumstances. Smoking is not permitted inside any house or cabin or on any screen porch. There will be a $750 charge for any smoking in either of these areas. Illegal drugs being used anywhere on the property will result in a $750 charge. Kegs and hookahs are not permitted anywhere on property under any circumstances. There will be a $500 charge should either of these items (kegs or hookahs) be found on the property (this includes outside areas too). If smoking (inside or on screen porches), illegal drugs (meaning what is illegal in Virginia), keg(s), hookah(s) or fireworks (there is a $500 fine for having fireworks or for shooting firearms at a property) are found on the property the guest will be asked to leave and there will be no refund whatsoever for any portion of the stay (including any future days/nights). Guests failing to check-out by 11 am agree to pay $50 an hour for a late check-out beginning at 11:01 am. If the guest is still there at 12:00 noon then then the charge is another $50 and so on with each additional hour the guest overstays their reservation. Late check-outs require prior written permission and applicable late check-out fees to be paid.

No check-ins or checkouts on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Owners only have the right to cancel a reservation without refund for reservations made to check in or out on these days. If owners allow the booking, a charge of $100 will be charged to check-in on these days.

About Katie & Steven Robert Jones

We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally (sometimes even as late as 2 or 3 in the morning, with prior approval). When you arrive, the lights will be on and you will be welcomed and shown around the cabin, unlike most other rentals where you access a lock box and walk into a dark cold house. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.

We came to Virginia from Texas so I (Steven) could finish my college degree, but got into the vacation rental business by accident. :) We have five daughters under the age of 7. We have 6 rescue dogs, 4 rescue cats, 6 ponies, 20 goats & about 5 chickens.

Katie & Steven Robert Jones purchased this house in 2015

average rating of 4.75 based on 4 reviews

Simple yet more than adequate house.

  • 5 of 5

Very honest listing for this nice little 3 bedroom house. Served our purposes very well and we had a nice stay. My wife did like the old claw foot tub in the downstairs bathroom. No complaints at all and we would surely stay here again. Very easy access to Harrisonburg, Shenandoah National Park and Interstate 81.

Loved the coziness!

  • 5 of 5

We were promptly met by the property owner and walked through the house. The decor is simple and clean. I love that it wasn't "over decorated". We were close to restaurants and a quaint town. The property is right on the road, but we didn't hear a thing once we were asleep. Despite the 29 other properties these owners manage, they were very attentive to us! Thank you Steve & Katie! I hope we are able to see the Old Log Cabin when it is fully restored! We'll be back!

Super Cute!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed a half way point to meet my parents. When we arrived, Steve met us at the house and walked us through it. He even gave us some history about the old log cabin. Our night was great despite being so close to the road. The house was comfortable and exactly what we needed. We will be back! Thank you Katie and Steve!!

Enjoyed our family get together

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the old log cabin house in Mount Crawford. The property was clean and exactly as it was described on the website. Steven was right there at the house to check us in which was great since we (the family) were coming in from different parts of the country. He also checked on us several times during our stay. Harrisonburg is close enough for all the stores, restaurants, movie theater, etc. one might need. The kitchen was well equipped and big enough for us to cook a big family dinner. The beds were comfortable. We brought some of our own towels and quilts but didn't need them since plenty were provided. It was also great that we were allowed to bring our dog, Molly. She travels with us all the time, and there were plenty of areas away from the road to walk her for exercise. Overall, it was a nice change because we usually stay in hotels when we come to Harrisonburg.

We knew the house was right on the main road, but we didn't realize how much traffic travels that road day and night. If you're a light sleeper, keep this in mind. Otherwise, there is nothing the owners can do to remedy the location and they posted pictures to show the location.

Thank you again Steven and Katie for everything. We appreciate all of your help and hospitality. The Perkins Family
