About Laura or Scott

Scott and I are from Southern MN. We love living here in MN. but are ready for an adventure. We have 2 children and 2 grand children. Our cabins are named after our grandchildren, the Smokey Mountain Playhouse (450776) after our granddaughter Izzy & Smokey Mountain Toy Box (508560) is named after our grandson Jaxon. Someday we hope they will see all the beauty in the mountains and they will grow to love North Carolina's like we have.

Laura or Scott purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Laura or Scott chose Waynesville

Open! Peaceful! Yet you are in the mountains. The best of each world. Close to everything without the concern about the mountains roads. Plenty of space for a family, 3 sets of couples to enjoy a special weekend together.

What makes this cabin unique

180 degree long range year around mountain and valley views. Cabin features 2 master suites with one having access to the covered deck while the second has its own loft. Built in the hillside is a fire pit area!

Start a new tradition with the kids and chopped down your own Christmas Tree, there are Christmas Tree farms within a mile and 1/2 of the cabin. Off street parking with room for truck and trailer. Perfect for cycles being on a paved road. Easy access to both Waynesville and Maggie Valley as well as Asheville.

5 STARS

  • 5 of 5

This home was absolutely perfect. Scott and Laura were available to answer our questions immediately and take care of any problems if they arose. (we did not have a single problem with the rental). The house itself was spotless, had a large kitchen with everything you need. The living room was beautiful with a stone fireplace, large screen TV and more than enough room to accommodate our party of four. The deck was large with great views of the valley, perfect for grilling or just sitting on the deck star gazing. The three bedrooms and bathrooms offered plenty of room for privacy. The location was great for shopping, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, visiting Biltmore and viewing the elk at Cataloochee. I would like to thank Scott and Laura for their hospitality and allowing us to stay here. I will defiantly give it 5 Stars. Bill and Brenda

Charming Winter Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a blast over the weekend! We traveled from Florida and the kids were so excited to see snow and mountains. The cold weather was a little overwhelming but we quickly warmed up by the fire. Enjoying s'mores at the fire pit was a highlight. The beds were really comfortable and included plenty of blankets. The cabin was cozy and clean and well-stocked. The owners provided helpful info for dining and shopping. Would definitely recommend it!

Farm Location

  • 3 of 5

The overall cabin itself was very nice. Accommodations were very good and also the amenities provided by the owner. Easy to get to by car did not need SUV. Had a good time in the town of Waynesville, Asheville. However in the pictures describing the place inside where accurate but the outside view from porch did not show that below you there were working farms. You still had beautiful view of the mountains but also highway and farms not as picturesque as we would have liked. The only real drawback was that we had to take the trash ourselves to the dump site otherwise had to pay a fee of $10 for each black trash bag and $5 for each tall kitchen bag if we did not take. I tried to take them to dump site but directions not very clear to get there as we are tourist and did not know our way around. Could not find place and tried mapquest but was sent to place over 40 Minutes away. Went there and was told could not leave trash. Left at 10AM to find place and took an hour by then it was 11AM checkout time. We were packed and had all our stuff by door with my wife and children waiting for us to get back. Cleaning lady showed up and was kind of rude to my family. She immediately contacted owner stating we were still there and not out. Got call from owner while trying to find dump site and she immediately stated that had to be out by 11AM. Advised was on way back to cabin already could not find dump site. When I got there I found my wife and kids outside the cabin waiting with all our luggage in the cold (it was 20 degree weather) not happy about that. Had to pay $30 to cleaning lady to take trash for us. The owner called me again stating that had to be out since they had booked someone right after us. I was polite as possible and told her thank you for hospitality and left. Next time I travel again will try and read more of the fine print before booking and owner should be a little more understanding when checking out during cold season, maybe check out should be a little later and include trash removal in price not hit you up with it later.

Owner's Response: Sorry your stay at the Toy Box was not the experience you were hoping it would be. We try very hard to keep our cabins very well maintained as you stated. The trash issue is addressed in both the rental agreement as well as your code and directions. If you use Mapquests and not our directions, then that is on you not us. Housekeeping can not and does not enter a cabin without permission from the guest. Your wife gave her permission to start the laundry. No one was asked to wait outside. If you ask for help which you didn't, we try to work with our guest, but you have to ask. Respectfully yours, Laura and Scott
