About the property

This 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath Home With Beautiful Views Out Every Window Of Nature.

This 214 acre ranch has been in our family since the 1800's. It's just a short drive north of Santa Barbara and just up the canyon from Refugio State Beach. It was homesteaded by my Grandfather and owned by my family ever since...The cabin is well over 100 years old and is about 3 1/2 miles up beautiful Refugio Canyon. It is surrounded by steep mountains, old Oak and Sycamore trees with a dry creek in the back that runs during rainy weather. Another creek on the Ranch runs all year long. The cabin with it's warm welcoming ambiance has all the comforts of home and will tempt you to come back again and again...

There are many nearby attractions such as the Ronald Reagan Tour just up the hill from us, horseback riding, Solvang Danish Community and many beautiful beaches including my favorite 'Refugio Beach' to name just a few...This is a surfer and wine enthusiast paradise

If you feel like going out but don't want to drive just ask us about our limousine service...We can arrange to take you to dinner, site seeing or a wine tour of the Santa Ynez Valley...

Holidays spent here are another nice experience or just a hide away for you to come when you just need to get away from all the routine and just relax...

Though newly renovated it still has that old world charm. Whatever your reason to come visit I assure you, you will not regret this memorable experience. Come and breath the fresh air and drink water from our own spring...

About Joyce Orsua

I grew up here with my parents and 5 sisters and two brothers...I went to a small school just up the coast from first to eighth grade and then went to Santa Ynez High School. I have lived here most of my life and though I have traveled to some beautiful areas in my life, but nothing is more beautiful then this ranch...

Joyce Orsua purchased this cabin in 1896

Why Joyce Orsua chose Santa Barbara Area

I have lived on the ranch most of my life. The property was passed down to my dad from his father who built the cabin as part of the original homestead rules and than he passed it to me for all the family to enjoy... My dad built the house I live in here on the ranch and my family gather here for many things such as birthdays and holiday...My Mother designed the house to be roomy and comfortable for us all...

What makes this cabin unique

Because my family has so much history here it is a place I cherish. We all have so many fond memories. It is such a good feeling to know that even though my parents experienced so many ups and downs in life they were able to hold on to this ranch...The history here goes back to the covered wagon days when my grandfather had a stagecoach stop and general store here...My dad told us stories of bandits riding up on horses and how he would run and hide behind a tree when he was a little boy until he knew if there was danger...My dad was born here on the ranch in the Early 1900's! My grandpa made wine from the grapes he grew on his grape arbor...As a child my siblings and I liked to sit under that same grape arbor and eat grapes and play...

Amazing quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cabin up a quiet valley road. The kitchen is set up nicely for cooking meals when we didn't want to go out(Santa Barbara was about 40 minutes with construction traffic). Having breakfast on the deck is simply amazing. The bed is very comfortable and the place is very clean. We had the best time here and Joyce is lovely and friendly. Do walk up the road to the top of the hill for a beautiful view of the land and ocean. A perfect end to 2016.

Perfect weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I decided to take a very last minute weekend trip over Labor Day and happened upon Joyce's cabin on VRBO. Joyce was immediately responsive and we were able to book in and head up to the cabin within 24 hours.

The cabin itself is exactly as pictured. Sweet, quiet, clean, no frills but very comfortable! It was honestly the perfect weekend getaway. The cabin is tucked just above Refugio Beach, along a beautiful tree lined windy road. It feels to me a little more like Upstate New York, then the West Coast with the surrounding trees and small cabins and homes dotted along the way. We loved it either way.

I would say the cabin is perfect for those who are looking to get out of the city, take time to relax, read on the back deck and cook! We brought lots of food and had very little plans to leave, though we did take a great day trip to Los Olivos which is only 25 minutes away.

We only met Joyce briefly on our last afternoon but she was gracious and responsive throughout our stay when we had questions or small issues (that were taken care of quickly!).

Thank you Joyce! I do hope we can come back soon! It was a lovely little getaway.

Nice get away location!

  • 2 of 5

Location is out of the way but nice if you wish to get away! Stars were amazing! Thanks Joyce for sharing your cottage. Unfortunately there was a really bad ant problem in the kitchen and bathroom. Joyce did mention it upon arrival but we didn't expect what we saw. The cleaning charge for one night was also excessive in my opinion. The place was comfortable and tidy.

Owner's Response: I agree that when you arrived I let you know I had seen 2 ants in the kitchen and that when you were checking out that you told me you had seen several...I am so sorry but it was very unexpected and unusual and the ant problem has been corrected...I hope you will give us another try sometime in the future! Thanks for coming!

Beautiful Property, Amazing Owner

  • 5 of 5

The property was picturesque, and the sounds of nature filled the air as we arrived to the cabin in Refugio canyon. Shortly after unpacking, we ran into an issue, and Joyce, the owner, bent over backwards to rectify it for us. She's a very helpful and gracious owner, and I would highly recommend staying here for a romantic getaway!
