About JIM ROSE
Jim, the owner is a retired Real Estate executive and enjoys the Maine coast almost all year long. Came here on vacation in 1985 and fell in love with the area and eventually moved here permanently having used the cottage primarily for vacations. I worked on it year after year till it is now the magical cottage I envisioned when I bought it. Living only a few miles in a year round residence I am available on a moments notice should you need me. You will have my phone #'s and email address.
JIM ROSE purchased this Cottage in 1990
Why JIM ROSE chose Belfast
Almost everyone who has stayed in this cottage wants to reserve it for the next year. It has been in a rental pool and I have not personally handled it until this year so there are no reviews but you can see last year's reviews of my home I rented while I stayed in the cottage. Not only is the cottage perfect for two or three guests but the area puts you in a half days drive to many interesting attractions in Maine. Many guests are content to stay in and around the cottage making use of the lovely property. You can walk along the ocean (I suggest tennis shoes) for miles and you can take a walk to Moose Point Park about 1/4 mile from the cottage. You can be as busy as you want or as reclusive as you want reading a book on the screened in porch or just watching the sail boats drifting by on a lovely sunny day. Even if it rains, the screened porch is roofed so you can still sit outside.
What makes this Cottage unique
There is a 'romance' about Maine and especially along the mid-coast area and that romance is magically captured at Cottage 17 overlooking Penobscot Bay and the Ocean.

Great location. Nice cottage. Loved the screened porch
Living room fan was dirty and so was the floor under the couch
We had the most relaxing 3 nights. Amazing bed, the ocean views striking, from sailboats, fog, walks on the beach, and beautiful porch to enjoy it all. Jim, the owner was an even better tour guide. We can't wait to schedule a trip with our family. The perfect couple's vacation that we needed. Didn't miss an item that we might need.
We stayed at Jim's cottage for four nights and that wasn't long enough. The cottage is very charming and has all the comforts of home. We really loved the screened in porch and the fireplace made it very cozy in the evenings. There is plenty to do in and around Belfast if you choose or you can stay in and enjoy the ocean and the cottage.
The brand new king size bed and new bedding were very nice and felt just like home.
We really enjoyed meeting Jim and he couldn't have been nicer. He allowed us to bring our two small dogs with us, which was so great.
We can't wait to return next year. We definitely recommend renting this wonderful place.
Dear Shannon and Roger,
What a wonderful review. Thanks so very much! I'm especially please that you liked the new king size bed. Will look forward to your visit next year.
This cottage is part of an enclave on the side of a hill over-looking a quintessentially New England beach waterfront. The house is perfect for two. It has a complete kitchen; separate, comfortable living room/dining area; and bedroom. The new king-sized mattress and bedding are sublime. Since the coast is protected by peninsulas and islands, the water is calm enough for waders, walkers and small children. There is a playground that is well used, but cannot be heard from this cottage's vantage point. Although other cottages are fairly close by, you feel completely private. The view from the large, screened-in porch is like a painting. It is close enough to a local grocery store and larger one (Tozier's and Hanneford's) and shopping/restaurants in Searsport and Belfast to be extremely convenient. We've been twice and are returning next year! We love it.
Thanks so much for this great review. I am particularly happy about you enjoying the new King Size bed!! Thanks and please come again.
Maine in September
We stayed here for 3 nights. It was lovely. A lot of care has gone into the decorating, cleaning and ambiance of this cottage. We loved the screen porch, great for an evening beer or early morning coffee. Jim went over and above to make sure we were comfortable and were happy with the accommodations. Location is very nice - in between Searsport and Belfast so accessible to all of the charming towns south along the bay as well as being able to travel north to Acadia NP. Be aware, this little cottage sits among a few other seaside cottages and is not isolated but that added to the charm with the colorful little cottages nestled up from the water. They are far enough away for privacy and we had no issues with noise or traffic. I am sure if you choose this rental, you will be very happy with it and am confident it will make your Maine stay even more special. We loved it and hope to return again soon.
Thanks so much, Ruth for this very special review. Means allot to me and also wow....thanks for leaving the cottage so neat and clean...didn't have much at all to do. Hope you can visit again next summer!
Hi everyone. We just got home from a 3 night stay in Jim's cottage. I call it that because Jim REALLY takes care and pride in it! It is clean, comfortable, well stocked and homey. We live in Portland, so we aren't "from away" and we travel to the mid-coast area often. Jim's cottage is a place we'll return to again and again. An earlier review wrote about the other cottages in the area ... this is true. This cottage is one of 25 or so nestled in a waterfront area. Although other cottages are close by, don't feel as though you won't have privacy, because you will! We sat on the screen porch in our PJ's for three mornings straight and never encountered a soul! Don't be afraid. Book this. You'll love it. Jim will take care of you as though you were family.
Thanks for that great review Cindy. Can't wait to see you again. I'll also let you know of any cancellations later in the summer or fall. You left the cottage so pristine I didn't have allot to do....always a blessing.
The Penobscot Marine Museum in the town of Searsport (5 minutes by car) is one of the largest and important Marine Museums on the east coast. 220 Sea Captains came from Searsport.
There are also two very large Flea Markets in Searsport and a Treasure & Trash Barn with thousands of items from architectural to sea going to glass, jewelery and many other collectables. There are at least 8 restaurants within 10 minutes (some 5 minutes) of the cottage from Mexican to French to good old American cuisine ! Moose Point State Park is great for picnics and walking. It is on the ocean with woods trails as well.
