Jim, the owner is a retired Real Estate executive and enjoys the Maine coast almost all year long. Came here on vacation in 1985 and fell in love with the area and eventually moved here permanently having used the cottage primarily for vacations. I worked on it year after year till it is now the magical cottage I envisioned when I bought it. Living only a few miles in a year round residence I am available on a moments notice should you need me. You will have my phone #'s and email address.
JIM ROSE purchased this cottage in 1990
Almost everyone who has stayed in this cottage wants to reserve it for the next year. It has been in a rental pool and I have not personally handled it until this year so there are no reviews but you can see last year's reviews of my home I rented while I stayed in the cottage. Not only is the cottage perfect for two or three guests but the area puts you in a half days drive to many interesting attractions in Maine. Many guests are content to stay in and around the cottage making use of the lovely property. You can walk along the ocean (I suggest tennis shoes) for miles and you can take a walk to Moose Point Park about 1/4 mile from the cottage. You can be as busy as you want or as reclusive as you want reading a book on the screened in porch or just watching the sail boats drifting by on a lovely sunny day. Even if it rains, the screened porch is roofed so you can still sit outside.
There is a 'romance' about Maine and especially along the mid-coast area and that romance is magically captured at Cottage 17 overlooking Penobscot Bay and the Ocean.
We stayed here for 3 nights. It was lovely. A lot of care has gone into the decorating, cleaning and ambiance of this cottage. We loved the screen porch, great for an evening beer or early morning coffee. Jim went over and above to make sure we were comfortable and were happy with the accommodations. Location is very nice - in between Searsport and Belfast so accessible to all of the charming towns south along the bay as well as being able to travel north to Acadia NP. Be aware, this little cottage sits among a few other seaside cottages and is not isolated but that added to the charm with the colorful little cottages nestled up from the water. They are far enough away for privacy and we had no issues with noise or traffic. I am sure if you choose this rental, you will be very happy with it and am confident it will make your Maine stay even more special. We loved it and hope to return again soon.
Hi everyone. We just got home from a 3 night stay in Jim's cottage. I call it that because Jim REALLY takes care and pride in it! It is clean, comfortable, well stocked and homey. We live in Portland, so we aren't "from away" and we travel to the mid-coast area often. Jim's cottage is a place we'll return to again and again. An earlier review wrote about the other cottages in the area ... this is true. This cottage is one of 25 or so nestled in a waterfront area. Although other cottages are close by, don't feel as though you won't have privacy, because you will! We sat on the screen porch in our PJ's for three mornings straight and never encountered a soul! Don't be afraid. Book this. You'll love it. Jim will take care of you as though you were family.
Cottage was clean and just right for the 2 of us! Views of the water every day and a beach to walk on and meet others. Saw seals, loons, and lots of boats. Listening to the harbour bell every night was a great way to fall asleep. The owner Jim was VERY helpful and if you need ANYTHING is only 5 minutes away. This was our 1st trip to Maine and can't wait to go back. The town of Belfast is really nice. Great restaurants and friendly people. Go to Young's lobster pound for fresh lobster!
Cottage was very nice and Jim was so helpful. Cottage is very well maintained and clean. It was nice to go on vacation and be able to stay in a place where there was a "touch of home" unlike a hotel. Jim recommended several places to visit and also to eat and we followed his advice on almost all. We were not disappointed. I would highly recommend Jim and his cottage. We certainly will be returning to Maine next fall!
Cottage was very nice, and Jim was very helpful. Easy to get to the ocean edge and walk around. Beautiful views, lovely little porch. Close to Belfast for meals, harbor walk etc. The only item I think potential renters should be aware of (as it was not sufficiently clear in the write-up) is that the cottage is set amongst about 20 other cabins -- and several are very close to this one. So it is less private than I had envisioned from the pictures. For example, the maintenance shed is very nearby, so lots of driving in and out by staff on a 4 wheeler though out the day and one also can't avoid hearing housekeeper conversations. That said, we still very much enjoyed the cabin and our stay.
Cottage was exactly as advertised. View was spectacular. The porch was so inviting you could sit there all day. Cottage was clean and everything you needed was on hand. Jim was a wonderful "host". He brought over some freshly baked coffee cake, provided restaurant info, and even had some wonderful jaz CD's in the player just waiting to be played. If we return to Belfast, this property would be first on our list.
The Penobscot Marine Museum in the town of Searsport (5 minutes by car) is one of the largest and important Marine Museums on the east coast. 220 Sea Captains came from Searsport.
There are also two very large Flea Markets in Searsport and a Treasure & Trash Barn with thousands of items from architectural to sea going to glass, jewelery and many other collectables. There are at least 8 restaurants within 10 minutes (some 5 minutes) of the cottage from Mexican to French to good old American cuisine ! Moose Point State Park is great for picnics and walking. It is on the ocean with woods trails as well.
I will meet guests at the cottage to give key and explain details of the cottage. I ask each guest to call me about one hour out from the 3PM check in to call my cell: 207-323-9333
