A lovely landmarked property in the convenient and desirable Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood of North Berkeley. Just steps to local shops, restaurants, farmer's market and public transportation. The property is 1/2 mile from UC Berkeley, perfect for visitors to the University. The original architectural details, the lush garden, and the location make this an ideal home away from home. Our property contains our landmarked Victorian home and three stand-alone cottages.
We have two suitcase-ready, fully furnished stand-alone 1 bedroom cottages available. The cottages are part of the historical landmark and were built in the 1920s. There is a bedroom with a queen sized bed and a sweet living room. The bathroom is very small but has a tub. There is a long narrow kitchen that is stocked with all kitchen basics (dishes, flatware, pots, etc). It has a breakfast table with room for two - there is another small table in the living room that can also be used for dining. The middle cottage has its own small patio in addition to the shared outdoor space on the property.
Our rates includes all utilities (gas, electric, water, garbage, wireless internet) and full furnishings (all furniture, sheets, towels, pots, pans, etc.) All units have access to (coin-operated) laundry and shared outdoor space on the property. A car is not necessary as we are in walking distance to (shopping, UC Berkeley, farmer's market, BART). Parking is street parking - folks who do want a car usually park ~3 blocks away, where there are no permits required.
We can occasionally accommodate groups that would like to rent multiple units.
I am a biology professor at UC Berkeley and love sharing our neighborhood and property with visitors to the area!
A big Thank You to Bree and Mike. A very nice location, we booked the studio in the this old victorian house and lived in the "middle" of this american family. The location is quiet and in a safe region, bath room, kitchen, studio very good and comfortable. The owners are very friendly and open for all our questions. We will come back.....
Again many Thanks ! Barbara & Mario, Germany
We stayed in Bree's lovely back yard cottage for a month and a half and had a wonderful time there. The cottages are small but charming and are situated in a beautiful garden. We needed a place to stay while house hunting and the location was ideally situated in the heart of the Gourmet Ghetto. We have a 3-year-old and a baby and Bree was absolutely fantastic about providing toys, a toddler bed, stroller, and more. It made the stay so much easier for us and was such a thoughtful thing to do. In addition, we ended up finding an apartment earlier than anticipated and Bree was able to partially refund us something she definitely did not have to do. I would highly recommend the place for anyone seeking a peaceful, convenient, and beautiful location!
I only stayed there for one week, but if by any chance I have to come back to Berkeley and need lodging, this address will be the first thing I will try! Everything was perfect, the north part of Berkeley is beautiful and the owners were very friendly and helpful. All in all, a perfect vacation!
Great location. Wonderful light in the cottage. Quiet outdoor area/seating. Owner on property for any questions/needs.
We stayed in the cottage for nearly two months. It is a great location, off the street with a small garden area for dining and relaxing. The cottage has a nice living room, a small but serviceable bedroom, a small kitchen, and a tiny bathroom. It is very comfortable for a couple. The location is great -- close to shopping and gourmet dining on Shattuck Ave, and within easy walking distance of the University campus. It is just at the foot of the Berkeley Hills, with nice walks and great views. Tilden Park is just at the top of the hill.
We stayed at the cottage while in town for work for five days. We also brought our two year old. The cottage is lovely, with a full kitchen and bath and a very comfy bed. The owner even provided us with toys and a pack-n-play for our toddler. An added bonus is the absolutely gorgeous garden/backyard which we loved walking out into. Just a few blocks from the gourmet ghetto, amazing location, we would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you!
We are in the fabulous North Berkeley neighborhood referred to as the 'Gourmet Ghetto'. If you walk west on Rose Street to Shattuck, you will find blocks of wonderful restaurants and shops. You can buy artisanal cheeses at the Cheeseboard, reserve a table at the world renowned Chez Panisse, sample the excellent offerings at Taste of the Himalaya and Cha-Am. Thursday afternoons from 3pm-7pm is our all-organic farmer's market just a few blocks away on Rose and Shattuck. The University is due south on Spruce 1/2 mile. If you would like recommendations for local activities and attractions, we are happy to help!
