About Danielle Alexander

I am a mom of 3 and love in wine country. I have 3 vacation rentals i manage; Healdsburg, South Lake Tahoe and Newport Beach. We love to go to Tahoe and play in the snow. A short drive and the house has everything there so we just pack some clothes. Our neighbor is our property manager and is close by in case my guests need anything.

Danielle Alexander purchased this house in 2003

Why Danielle Alexander chose Bijou 1

This house is so comfortable you feel right at home. It is located in a perfect spot - only 2 min to heavenly but still close to the Y and Emerald bay. The hot tub is awesome. It has cool lights and so many jets. After the drive up I look forward to getting in. Especially after a day of skiing.

What makes this house unique

The house is ideal for families. Tons of fun for them from the fire pit to the hot tub, to the games and air hockey table Foosball and sleds already there. it is also perfect for your family pet having a dog door and fenced yard. Also close to a dog park. There are more photos on those sites

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a group of 6 staying there for MLK weekend and had a great time. Nothing super fancy but a cosy and comfortable house conveniently situated near most activities in South Lake Tahoe. Danielle was an accommodating and responsive host. The outdoor hot tub rocks! I would definitely recommend this place.

Nice family gathering place

  • 5 of 5

This is an older house, however it is furnished and decorated so it feels comfortable and welcoming rather than worn out. The location is great, in a nice quiet neighborhood located close to South Lake activities. You can walk, or ride your bike to the park, (or around the block), take your dog for a walk in the meadow, (down the street, turn left, turn right) or jump in your car and take a short drive to the lake or downtown area. The outside area has a great deck with a large dining table so you can enjoy meals and snacks outside and a nice size hot tub for relaxing in. The yard is large enough so that even our great dane had plenty of room to run around with her favorite toys. The beds are comfortable, adequate towels, linens, and blankets provided, lots of game choices. The only negative comment I would have is if you plan on cooking a lot, rather than dining out, you may want to bring some of your own equipment. The cookware provided is older, and there are no cooking sheets or serving trays. I would suggest the owner make a Dollar Store run and pick up a few more plastic bowls, trays and cookie sheets the next time she comes up. Overall, we had a great time at this location and found the house to be wonderful environment to hang out and enjoy a relaxing evening after family members had run around all day enjoying their favorite Lake Tahoe summer activities. You feel you have privacy even though you are in a neighborhood and the owner is lucky to have such a nice place to stay.

We had a wonderful 30 day stay here.

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate to find this home for our 30 day stay in Tahoe. It is near everything, the lake, shopping, casinos, disc golf and dog parks etc. When we arrived they were just finishing up cleaning and the place was spotless. We spent much time out on the large deck that looked to have a new patio set. The decor may not be as updated as some other homes, but that is to be expected when I was paying about half of what they wanted. I highly recommend this home for a long term stay. It felt like home. Thanks Danielle.

Old and dirty place

  • 1 of 5

This is an old and turn down property. Situated about a mile from South Lake Tahoe shoreline. Thumbs up for that but I guess there are many places to live right in the shoreline as well.

The interiors are very dirty. All the furniture, kitchen area, bathrooms and garage are in very bad condition. Most of the lamps don't work properly and sauna in backyard is filled with filth. Kitchen counter and utensils have a sticky sheer and it felt yucky to use anything in kitchen. Garage is filled with mess and stinking trash bags. There is a useless foosball table with most players broken. For us, the cleaning crew didn't even finish washing towels when we arrived. Overall it's a very bad property that is very poorly maintained. And it is very pricey for what you get!

Owner's Response: This is our home and we take pride in it being an affordable family house in a great location. We have 100s of great reviews on 3 different rental sites and repeat guests that come enjoy our place year after year. It is hard for families to enjoy Tahoe at a reasonable price - our house is not fancy but has all the comforts of home and is meant to be enjoyed for up to 8 people. We have stocked the house with fun things for kids - toys, games, video games, bikes and baby equipment all so families can arrive and enjoy the home without having to transport these items along the way. I immediately regretted renting my home to this group on July 4th when they showed up with twice as many people then our house can handle. They booked the house for only one day and came with the sole purpose of packing in a lot of celebrating, leaving behind a huge mess. They left 4 large trash cans full (when they arrived there was a small container of recyclables there along with empty bins). This group showed no respect for my home. This is the report my cleaner gave me after it took 2 people 6 hours to put the house back together. "The house was a total mess when we got there and that is why it took 6 hours to clean. When I was doing laundry I noticed a ripped bed skirt that I had to throw away. It looks like they may have changed it out because they got into all of the linens that were bagged in the master bedroom. The whole house was in disarray. It took us an hour and half to put everything back where it belonged. The bathrooms were very dirty. If the house was so bad, why did they stay and use everything. The previous cleaning crew did not do a bad job. Everything was clean when they got there. They were probably thinking they were staying at an expensive high end house with granite counter tops etc. and so they were inconsiderate about the decor and furniture. But clearly they exceeded the maximum occupancy and that is why they complained because it wasn't fancy enough. Laundry takes a long time. Kitchen carpets were a mess and had to be washed. Garage needed to be swept out. Hot tub drained and cleaned. Bedrooms were also in disarray (comforters all over the place) and every towel was used. The refrigerator and microwave were a mess. Floors had to be swiffered twice. Lamps moved around. Light bulbs had to be changed etc. I know the group on the 4th was only only one night but it was a mess. All 4 garbage cans were full after being taken out the day before.

Good deal, good amount of space, needs some updating

  • 4 of 5

We had a good vacation and thought the deal was great. Communication was good and the deposit was refunded reasonably promptly. The house is a little outdated and had the feel of one that's been well used. The kitchen had about four small frying pans, one medium one, and no large ones. Tons of tools for the outdoor grill but no wooden or plastic spoons to use on the nonstick cookware inside. So, some of the basics were missing if you like to do any indoor cooking for more than two people. The kitchen was also a bit grimy, especially if you venture into cabinets or open the oven door. Surfaces were clean and plenty of clean dishes for eating. The bed nearest the kitchen table makes way too much noise, even just when you sit down on it, and the pillows really need to go. Really want to give 3 1/2 stars, but I'm rounding up for the great hot tub, nice deck, and friendly owners. We met them briefly upon arrival.

Overall, if you want to find a place to stay on the cheap, this is reasonable. Next time, we'll spend more.

Wonderful Spring Snow Trip

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 kids/2 adults) stayed in this wonderful rental for a spring ski trip. The house had everything we could hope for: plenty of room, lots of comfort, all kinds of games and fun for the kids as well as a backyard and hot tub. My kids loved coming back to a place that felt like a home away from home after a long day of ski lessons and we all loved soaking in the hot tub. The house is very clean and has a fully stocked kitchen. There is a great park within walking distance and the neighborhood is quiet and nice. We highly recommend this rental and we can not wait to go back.
