About the property

The perfect place to get away or fish the amazing Trinity river!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We work hard to make River Haven Cottage a great vacation experience. Would you be kind enough to give us some specifics on your bathroom cleanliness rating. We really want to make our rental the best it can be.

Excellent fishing! Relaxing home!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it! It was clean and quiet and the kitchen was very well equipped. The deck above the river is so relaxing w.ith the river sliding by. The location is very convenient with town just five minutes away. And the fishing was off the hook! My boys caught thier limit of tasty trout every day we were there. There were plenty of extra blankets which was good because the beds are short and my son is very tall so we made him a nice bed with the available bedding. There was a family of deer that came into the yard and enjoyed the green lawn. We would definately stay there again. Thank you to the Sumners for keeping such a pleasant vacation rental.

A wonderful family experience.

  • 5 of 5

Overall our experience was spectacular! I called the owner a few times before leaving for our trip and he answered or called me back immediately. He also answered my emails as I had many questions, he was very helpful. The house was clean, beautiful and exactly as explained by the owner, there were no surprises. The kitchen was stocked with all of the comforts of home. There were no signs of mice or any bug or spider and if there were we would certainly take into consideration that we are in the mountains, there are suppose to be all different spiders, bugs, mice, rats etc. etc. but there weren't as the house is cared for very well. This is a quiet escape from the reality of city life that is beautiful and pristine. The river runs right in front of the house and the wrap around porch is shady and inviting for a nice dinner or a wonderful nap. There are many activities to attend to but really we were looking forward to the day that we didn't have any plans so we could take a long walk then watch and listen to the river going by. These people open their homes for us to enjoy. They have their own family memories there that they cherish. We now have great family memories made there. We will defiantly go back to River Haven Cottage with our family.

Beautiful location and property

  • 3 of 5

My family and I were thrilled when we arrived at the property! The drive in is very scenic and the property itself is picturesque. The garden and trees had recently been trimmed so everything was well manicured, clean, and tidy. It's not a huge home, but we were not expecting it to be. The house was clean and I was very pleased to find not a single bug inside the house despite the plethora or insects just outside the door.

We were a short drive to Lewiston Lake, where we rented a patio boat and had a BLAST hanging out on the water!

There are two charcoal grills to use while there plus a coal chimney to help get things going. Very useful!

There are 2 bedrooms, one with it's own bathroom and large walk in closet. There is also a sun room with what I would consider wide benches that I suppose you could sleep on in a pinch.

There IS a pull-out sofa-bed couch. However, it looks and feels like it's from the 80's. And unfortunately, there were some mice droppings on the mattress linens when we unfolded it. Luckily we were able to stash those and replace the linens from the supply in the closet before my nieces noticed!

That obviously gave us some negative feelings about the rental.

My other complaint was the lack of basic pantry supplies (including no cutting board) and barely functioning coffee pot. I don't mind bringing my own stuff, but the listing sure made it seem like the house was very well stocked.

Bottom line- bring your own supplies (plenty of room to stash empty crates) and don't plan on needing more than 2 beds and you will enjoy yourself here.

Perfect River Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place is a dream come true. It is secluded, spacious, and well stocked. The backyard is literally on the riverbank and could not be more perfect. I did lots of fishing (guide recommended by the host), hiking, and exploring the neighboring towns. The River Haven Cottage is clean and comes stocked with all the essentials.

The negative reviews are completely bogus. This is not a 5 star hotel in NYC, this is a homey cabin in a beautiful neck of the woods. There is no dog hair or pests, that is all nonsense. This is a nice, clean, well maintained cabin in the woods. If that is your expectation, it will be exceeded. Cannot recommend this place enough. Will DEFINITELY be coming back.
