About Maria Cristina Arena

Hi Everyone,

my name is Maria Cristina but everyone calls me Cristina since 1983 when I was born in Rome. I grew up in Rome and I really love my eternal city.

I'm an experienced host and I've always wanted to share all my knowledge about this wonderful city with people around me especially to those who visit it for the first time.

In my life I have always been involved into some touristic jobs because I love travelling.

I studied languages at school and I travelled a lot all around the world to improve my English. I thank my American family for helping me!

I started my working life being a cabin crew member for Alitalia and continued working on touristic "hop-on hop-off" double decker touristic buses in Rome.

My love and passion for this particular job blossomed after working like a receptionist in a famous Roman Hotel.

I decided to start my own job and being "the boss of myself" with my two apartments.

What is different? I'm not an agency, I'm a private owner and for me it's very important to get better each day of my life.

I started renting my apartments in 2006 and after over 10 years I can say I'm very satisfied and proud to manage my properties with love and care like a pro.

I met so many people from all around the world and I learned a lot for each one of them. Every single feedback from you is important! Every suggestion, tip or help is really appreciated!

I know how much important is for my guests to feel themselves at home when away from their country and I will always try my best to leave a memorable memory of my Rome!

I will be available for you night and day and of course I will be glad to host you in my apartments!

Feel free to write me all your questions or requests!

Take care,

Maria Cristina Arena purchased this apartment in 1960

Beds are horrible! Unable to sleep.

  • 1 of 5

First the pros:

Safe, residential neighborhood with good restaurants. Apartment was very clean and quiet. Only about a 20 minute walk to Saint Peters but not close to any other monuments. Owner was very helpful arranging drivers to and from airport. The driver service was excellent.

Now the cons:

The beds were so hard and uncomfortable that we didn't sleep in them. I slept on the couch which was also hard as a rock. My daughter slept on the cot - also hard as a rock. I would not recommend staying here until the beds are replaced. Worst I've ever seen.

Owner's Response: Well Kelli, I'm so sorry to hear that because I am a TOP superhost on other web sites with this apartment and NO ONE has ever ever complained about the beds. They found them very good for a good night sleep but I assume everyone has its own habits with mattresses. I would like to tell to people that read this review that Kelli, called my during her stay telling me that the single bed was broken on a side and she couldn't sleep in it because it was broken (not because it was too hard). I went to the apartment immediately to check what happened and the bed was perfectly safe and intact as I gave her. I was really surprised. I asked her explanations about her message because I came to the apartment and everything was perfect and she couldn't tell me more. She skipped my question. I don't know what is wrong with her. She didn't even mentioned about the mattresses during her stay, so I don't know... I don't think my apartment deserves one star, this makes no sense at all but it's ok I accept it because I understand the kind of person.

We loved this apartment, it is spacious and very comfortable, very clean too. It is situated not far from the center, there are public transportation lines. All you need for groceries is so close, 2 minutes walking, even a nice little market with delicious freh products. The owner is extremely serious and kind. Really excellent! I would advice it to anyone.

Rome - Italy

Best apartment you could wish for!

  • 5 of 5

My husband gave me an eight day stay in Rome for my 50th birthday and we were fortunate enough to stay in Cristina's wonderful apartment, a short walk from the Vatican. The apartment was the icing on a wonderful cake, it was warm and cosy when we arrived on a windswept, damp Wednesday evening, and immaculately clean. On a practical basis the apartment is brilliantly located, a taxi rank and bus stops are 2 minutes away, as are several excellent non touristy restaurants. There is an excellent small supermarket in the next building and a larger one 2 minutes walk away. The facilities at the apartment were excellent and if I'd felt like cooking a roast for 6 I could have! The kitchen was very functional and stocked with everything the serious cook or casual egg boiler would require. After a day of seeing the sights we watched DVD's, including Roman Holiday, which is a must, or perused the many books (in several languages) listened to music or sat quietly enjoying the ambience. We were surprised how quiet it was at the apartment, it was hard to believe we were in the centre of a major city. There was enough storage for several guests, and the bed was gloriously comfortable. We loved our week in Rome, it was wonderful to visit the Vatican Museums, the Coliseum and other well known tourist sites, it was also a joy to discover hidden treasures such as the world's largest Etruscan collection! I look forward to our next journey to this fascinating and beautiful city and staying once again in this fabulous apartment. We joyed some excellent food in Rome, including a delicious Indian/Pakistani meal!

Roman holiday

  • 5 of 5

Cristina is prompt, professional and proficient. She is a pleasure to deal with. The apartment is very large and very well laid out. The living room is large and can accommodate extra adults with privacy. I understand the bathroom is being upgraded currently. You are about 15 minutes by foot from the Vatican and the area is extremely well connected by an efficient bus system. Metro not convenient but not essential either. The area has all necessary services but is rather busy and bustling. There is noise from the street, but then again, must of Rome is rather noisy. I short, a lovely experience and hope to repeat next year. Thank you Cristina.

Owner's Response: Thanks a lot Maurizio, I'll be more then happy to welcome you again next year. Currently June 2014, we are renewing the bathroom so pictures of the brand new bathroom will be shown soon (after September 2014). I agree with you about the Metro, it is not essential for Rome since the bus system around the apartment allows you to reach every part of the city and San Pietro Basilica is a short walk away. About the street noise, as you know it is all about from 16:30 to 17:00 when young children get off school, which is in front of the apartment. The small playground in front of the apartment during spring and summer time has playing kids which lighten up our days. Usually when windows are closed during winter and fall time, noise is almost non-existent. Thanks a lot again. Cristina
