Comfortable And Spacious Home In Horse Country

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Space 3,000 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Three bedroom, 2 and half bath and located in a rural area.

The Dutch Barn is located about 2 miles East of Middleburg on a quiet country lane off State RT 50 and in the heart of Virginia's hunt country. The previous owner developed and used it as a small horse breeding operation and there are now 6 indoor stalls (of which 4 are available to guests, including an indoor wash station), a run-in shed, paddock, exercise ring and riding area. It is an excellent place to bring your horse(s) as there is plenty of opportunity to ride on the property, the scenic rural road and beyond.

The family owned farm house is connected to the stables, covers about 3,000 square feet of living space including 3 bedrooms, a great room including living, dining and kitchen, TV room, exercise room, and a reading room. All are tastefully decorated with a worldwide collection of antiques, arts and crafts. There are 2 full bathrooms, one having an indoor Jaccuzzi bathtub as well as a half bath in the reading room. All rooms are comfortably outfitted with plenty of closet space. There are quality linens and towels and everything is neat and clean. A large deck with a 6 person's spa (open from spring into fall) overlooks the Bull Run Mountains. At the bottom of the property is a farm pond with a swing bench. There is lots of open space to feel relaxed and it is all quiet and restful. There also is plenty of parking space, including for horse trailers.

The town of Middleburg is very charming to explore. The town itself has some renowned restaurants including Red Fox Inn, The French Hound and Julien's, the world class Salamander Resort and Spa, several boutiques, antique stores and a Safeway supermarket. Also the National Sporting Library is here and worth a visit. Within a mile distance you will find a Polo field and a high end horse riding facility and historic Aldie Mill and Oatlands are nearby. Many trips can be made to explore the hilly rustic country side with lots of beautiful properties where horses are kept. Other attractions are the many wineries, the State Arboretum of Virginia, the Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Luray Caverns.

Washington D.C. is about 45 miles away and Dulles International Airport about 20 miles or less than half an hour drive. Part of the Smithonian Air and Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy Center) showing the larger planes and space vehicles (including space shuttle Discovery), is located near the airport.

All in all enough to do and see to make this property your home away from home.

Lovely in every way.

We had a wonderful time at The Dutch Barn with Jan and Ina. Down a picturesque gravel road, the barn is peaceful, expansive and extremely spacious with pretty much everything you could need...even a hot tub! Jan and Ina's careers have taken them all over the world and The Dutch Barn reflects their travels and is decorated with all sorts of interesting things. It's also neat as a pin. The property itself is, lush, and serene...we we saw many deer, a few foxes and lots of birds. Jan and Ina are worldly, gracious and accommodating hosts and we enjoying talking with them. They had lots of good stories to tell, and Jan even has a cool tractor. My husband now has tractor envy. We will definitely stay again when we are in the area...which will be often! Thank you Jan and Ina...we loved it!

Owner's Response: Thank you Amy for this wonderful review and yes we enjoyed having you as our guests. You left early to miss the traffic but were back home in time to watch the full solar eclipse. That must have been an experience not quick to forget. Hope you will be back soon.

Warm, gracious hosts and home in beautiful horse country

  • 5 of 5

Jan and Ina were the perfect hosts! They were always quick to respond to our questions, accommodated a last-minute doggy addition, and personally ensured we knew our way around their cozy and spacious home. We especially enjoyed nights in the hot tub and mornings on the patio spotting fox and deer. If you're staying in Middleburg, we wholeheartedly recommend you take the opportunity to be their guests. Thank you, Jan and Ina!

Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This is a fabulous property--just two minutes to town of Middleburg, yet private with acres of green pasture, lovely gardens, and perfect outdoor dining/reading gazebos. The house is spacious, with everything you need (including wifi and two tvs with DVR). We love the eclectic decor with many items from the owners' travels and work stations around the world. Very clean and comfortable, the care taken to insure your visit is perfect is second to none.

Comfortable, Peaceful, Interesting, beautiful landscaping

  • 4 of 5

House was very spacious, comfortable and well decorated. Landscaping and views from windows were beautiful. Owners were also nice and accommodating. They helped to obtain a pack & play for our toddler before we arrived. The house was extremely clean and fresh, though keep in mind it is a farm and occasionally rented by horse owners. Middleburg was gorgeous and very historic, as well as the surrounding areas. Not for fans of fast food and super stores - none are available within 10-15 miles.

Owner's Response: Thank you Carter for your review. We wonder why you mentioned that "one should be aware that the house is occasionally rented to horse owners"? And just for the record: there are several new and good restaurants, supermarkets and a Walmart super store in South Riding just about 10 miles away.

Beautiful Grounds and Spacious Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Dutch Barn! It was way more spacious than we anticipated and very comfortable. Perfect for a wedding weekend, but wishing we could have stayed to enjoy the home longer. Checking in/out were extremely easy. My only complaint is all the towels smelled mildewy. Would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thanks Melanie and sorry to hear that the smell of the towels was not to your liking. Most had been machine washed just a few days ago and we cannot really explain why they smelled as you described. Possibly it is the well water that we use that is not chlorinated and may smell different from city water.
