Fantastic Family Vacation!
Our family recently returned from a fabulous week in these two amazing homes on beautiful Lake Santeetlah! To say that it was a “dream” vacation would be an understatement. For our family of 14 – my husband, myself, our son, our daughter, their spouses, and our 8 grandsons (ages 2 – 13) – there was more than ample space in the beautifully appointed main and guest houses (7,000 square feet combined). The furnishings and décor in both homes were surpassed only by the breath-taking views of the mountains and the pristine lake from sunrise to sunset and well into the night. Without doubt, this is the most beautiful view from THE BEST location on the lake! We felt almost as if we had the entire lake to ourselves. To have all that space in two fully equipped homes – two kitchens, two laundry rooms, five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, spacious screen porches as well as all the other amenities including an outdoor shower and hot tub off the master bath and a game room in the basement – was perfect for our family! There was plenty of space for all of us to be together when we wanted to or to find a “nook” for some quiet alone-time, if we needed that. The game room, with its ping pong, foosball, and pool tables, not only provided plenty of indoor after-dark entertainment and friendly competition for our grandsons but also enough room for several kayaks, a canoe, water skis/ropes, life jackets and other water-related items that we all got to enjoy while outdoors on the lake. Having two docks was also perfect so some of the boys could fish off of one while the others were swimming, splashing and jumping off the other. The incredible outdoor spaces including the screened porches, stone patio, and lakeside gazebo areas provided for many hours of relaxation and family-gathering making memories to last for a long time to come.
To the friendly folks in Robbinsville at Cherokee Realty (especially Molly), Deyton Camp Boat Rentals, Ingle’s Grocery, Prince of Peace Mission Catholic Church (especially Lisa), Stoney Hollow Farm, Wehrloom Honey, NOC, and the doctors/staff at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, we can’t thank you enough for your help and kindness while we were visiting. And to the owners of Trails’ End, you are truly blessed to have your own little piece of Paradise on beautiful Lake Santeetlah! Thank you both so much for your gracious hospitality and for sharing it with us for a short time. We definitely plan to return!
This home was one of the nicest rentals ever!! We had a family of 9 people aging from 13 to 73 years old. The view of the lake from the balcony was breathtaking especially at sunset. We even saw turkeys and deer. The home is very tastefully decorated with up to date furnishings and a well stocked kitchen. Ice maker saved us many trips to town. The outside stonework is beautiful. A fire was built every night in the outside fireplace for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows and making mountain pies! We loved being able to use the pontoon boat which was included the rental. We also took advantage of using the kayaks and canoe too. Took a trip to Dollywood which was about a 2 hour drive, also drove to the Great Smokey Mountain train ride which was less than an hour away. The only thing I would suggest would be to add a hand rail to the outside steps for safety. Great time was had by all!!
We stayed at this house for a week, two families with 15 mostly grown-ups and one baby. It was the most beautiful house and setting we've ever stayed at. The lake was amazing--warm, swimmable, with I'm sure the best setting of any house on Lake Santeetlah. Sleeping was tight with 15, but there was plenty of space for different groups to do what they wanted--read, swim, play games, cook.
The houseboat that is included put the vacation over the top. The adult kids used it all day for fun and play. The adult adults used it to motor to a quiet spot on the lake in the evening. The view of the lake and the mountains was immediately out our front door all the time. We did a 13 mile hike along the AT, and a short waterfall adventure to nearby Yellow Creek, and we went up to Cherokee to visit the Cherokee museum.
The furnishing in the house are all fantastic--an amazing bathroom in the master bedroom, a nice hot tub, two kayaks, a canoe, and the aforementioned pontoon boat. The beds were comfortable, great windows, a nice screened in porch. And then there is the multi-level outdoor porch made of native stone that spills down to the water. So many places to sit and watch. You have a full view up a long arm of the lake to the mountains beyond. Wow.
The only small quibbles--the stovetop is a bit underwhelming for such a large, modern house, and the games (ping pong, foosball, pool) in the basement are a bit worn. Also, this is a pretty remote location. The town of Robbinsville has a grocery store and that's about it (and the county is dry, so BYOB if that's important to you). But you're not coming here for nightlife, and these are trivial quibbles. We would come back to this house in a heartbeat just to sit on the porch all day.
Thanks for the great review. We love this home and it sounds like you did as well.
We purchased the home at the end of the last summer and agree that the stove in the main house could be a little bigger. We will be upgrading it this winter. The pool table and foosball were a quick fix to entertain on rainy days and will be upgraded this winter as well. We have only stayed in the house one week since we purchased it and are always pleased to hear that others enjoyed it as much as we did. Andrews is the closest place to purchase alcohol, about 30 minutes away, and we will start reminding renters of this, thanks for mentioning it as we often forget.
We hope you come to stay again.
Wonderful house on a fabulous lake
Having visited Lake Santeetlah for some 15 years, I can say without hesitation that this is the finest property we have ever stayed at on the lake. The quality of construction and furnishings ia absolutely first rate, and the views right from the various porches, decks and dock are as good as they get. I am an avid photographer, and some of my best sunset and sunrise images wer right from the dock.
We were four mature adults and five young adults in three generations at the house, and could easily have accomodated at least four more in complete comfort. One night we had another family of six over for dinner, and there was room to spare.
The pontoon boat provided with a week rental is a great asset to explore and enjoy the lake and its many fingers and islands. Coupled with a ski boat rented from the Santeetlah Marina and a couple of kayaks we brought with us, we could enjoy all the activities the lake has to offer. The lake itself is one of North Carolina's hidden jewels, with minor, indeed minimal, development and mostly national forest all around. The water is remarkably warm, particularly when compared to the other lakes in the Adirondacks that we were familiar with. it is also in the heart of white water rafting country, and a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and some great hiking.
In summary, this is a fabulous house, on an incredible lake, the perfect setting for an active or relaxed vacation.
Best Home to Rent on the Lake
We have been coming to this secluded, beautiful lake for over 12 years now. We have had some favorite homes we have stayed in…..but this home is the best by far! This home has EVERYTHING you could want for your serene mountain lake vacation. The home accommodated 14 of us perfectly - with still room for some to get lost! All of us adults commented after our first morning there how awesome the beds were too. We are foodies and love to cook, bake and grill to our hearts content. This home had a very well stocked kitchen - even a whirly pop so next year I won't have to haul mine down. Nice grill and smoker too! The patio off the main kitchen has a killer view - from early morning to sunset you can sit there all day and watch the lake. The screened patio was delightful to fall asleep on during an afternoon rain, plus the fireplace there was a perfect place for s'mores for the kids in the evening. Truly - we cannot say enough positive things about this home. Our vacation was perfect and we will surely be back again!
Thank you so much for the great review and we look for to having you stay at our home again soon.

Great Getaway Home (Picture Perfect)
We stayed at this fabulous house for a week at the end of May 2014. The house and guest house are spacious, and both offer spectacular views of the lake and mountains. The houses are very attractively decorated and the landscaping is gorgeous. The kitchens are well equipped—everything you need is provided, as well as a stainless steel outdoor grill. The shower in the master bathroom is amazing. The game room on the lower level of the main house offers pool, table tennis, and foosball. Books, magazines, and DVDs are also provided. The property is secluded, with only one close neighbor, and located only about five miles from the nearest grocery store. There is plenty of room for people to find privacy if desired. You will definitely not be disappointed.
Thank you so much for the great review of our Lake home. We hope you will pay us a return visit.
The property is located on the banks of Lake Santeetlah, near the Tail of the Dragon (a destination for car and motorcycle fun seeker) There is white water rafting and horseback riding close by.
