Last year I bought 3 acres on the Bogue Fayala River in Covington, La. My own home is river frontage is also available to rent. (#688517) but I also have a lovely cottage up from me. It is beautiful, peaceful and wonderful to unwind. Watch for deer or otter's swimming! Secluded on the Boque Falaya River (Choctaw for 'long river') sits a beautiful raised cottage that feels like a tree house with lots of windows to enjoy 3 acres of lush peaceful woods. Yes, you can unwind here with river walking, bird watching and just walking the 3 acres on the property. So much to take in. It has cathedral ceilings in great room, granite counter tops in the equipped kitchen and bath with a large bedroom and full bath. Get out of Nola for the weekend! Rent a kayak, go horseback riding. The farmers market is 2 miles away and old Covington. Don't forget your bikes for the Tammy Trace! 55 inch TV to sit back and enjoy!
We are pastor's that have lived in the area for over 38 years. We love the outdoors and want others to enjoy our River House
Parris Bailey purchased this cottage in 2013
You can unwind and get renewed looking at the river and listening to wildlife. Close enough to town to enjoy all the special shops and nice eatery in down town Covington. Carmel sits across the river and the nuns ring the bells every morning!
Riverfront, with the 35 mile Tammany Trace nearby. The Bougue Falaya is shallow and clear to go river walking! I love coming to my property to unwind, star gaze and remove myself from the cares our lives bring.
This was the perfect getaway from having a stressful job. The property is really mind soothing and therapeutic. Also the owner was very welcoming and professional. This will definitely be a regular Oasis for me. Thanks again and see you soon.
The property was just lovely, the elevated wooden walkways added charm. We held an impromptu photo secession with my Granddaughter and the pictures turned out great. The house was well suited for our needs, plenty of room for the three of us and it was only 15 minutes away from the family we were visiting in Folsom. Everything seems to work and the proprietor was very accommodating and friendly, She even brought us a little Christmas gift, which was so sweet of her.
I did however, have a few concerns. 1. I felt that is was not as clean as I would have liked. Lots of dust on window sills, a few dirty dishes in the cupboard, dirty under the sink, It just felt like it all needed a good spring scrubbin'. I also would have liked clean blankets for the beds. I assume the comforters are not cleaned after each use, so I felt uneasy covering with them. (I actually borrowed blankets from my family to use) 2) There was only one smoke alarm and it was missing. 3) I think there should be a rubber bathtub mat available. My husband has balance issues due to nerve damage and he felt somewhat uneasy in the shower. I would probably give it another try and stay there one more time , because it is so convenient to Folsom.
My family and I had a nice time here for 5 nights. The property was on a second floor, so our view of the trees was nice. Everything was clean and ordered, as described. Everything we needed was nearby.
The house is all on one floor above a garage. There are 17 steps plus the landings to get to the front door. Cement/gravel to park. We did not use the garage. Outside water hoses. A charcoal grill in the driveway.
The house consists of a great room, a bedroom a bath.
Great room has the living room, kitchen, dining room all in one big room. Hardwood flooring. Ceiling light with fan. Couch & 2 recliners, flat screen TV. Dining is a round table with 4 chairs & kitchen counter bar with 3 stools. There is a good sized trundle in this area. Couch is not a sleeper sofa.
Kitchen...lots of counter & cupboard space, double sink, micro & stove & side by side refrig/freezer with water/ice. There are wine/water glasses, plates & cereal bowls & coffee cups. Three mixing bowls, a very small colander, pizza pan, 8x12, 8x8, 2 saucepans & an odd assortment of skillets. Coffee maker, blender, toaster & crock pot. There is a Cruisinart griddle.
Internet is ATT & is excellent. Lots of free tv channels. Verizon phones worked well here.
Bedroom is large, carpeted, queen size bed that is very comfortable. Two dressers & a desk, a closet with iron, board, hangars & room fan & the ceiling light has a fan.
Bath is large with stone flooring, combined tub/shower, one sink with large counter/cupboard space, closet, hair dryer, electric towel butler, heat fan & sweeper. Only has 1 plug outlet. Lots of hot water & very good water pressure.
Washer/dryer are small but more than adequate for 2 people. They are located on the covered porch in a closet area. There are also 2 collapsible chairs in the closet as well.
You cannot see the river from the house & in January, it's not what we would call a river. More like a deep sided creek...looks shallow. There is no access from the property...it is at least 5 feet down over the bank so if you bring a kayak, you would have to throw it in and jump after it, or simply take it to Covington Landing about 3 miles away.
House is comfortable & a good size for 2 people. The owner lives on the property, is very nice & accommodating & took care of our minor issues in a timely manner. We would recommend the house to other prospective renters.
Had an extended stay here - almost 2 months - and it was very nice. Pictures are very accurate; if anything, it's nicer than it looks online. Very quiet and safe area, but close to restaurants, food shopping and everything else you might need (You will want to have a car, however; though you wouldn't know it once you're inside the cottage, it is off a fairly busy street). The kitchen was very well equipped with all sorts of small appliances to make meal prep easy and convenient. The entire cottage was immaculate when I arrived, and the owners very accomodating. Though they lived in another residence on the property, it felt like I had the whole place to myself. While I didn't make it into New Orleans while there, it`s certainly an easy drive in should you want to do a day trip. Just be aware - while the cottage is all one floor inside, there are a number of steps to reach the front door - so it may not be appropriate for the elderly, handicapped or young children.
Covington is a quaint town filled with shops and nice restaurants. Tammany Trace is close which is a 35 mile bike/running path.
