About Brooke and Orren Welch

My wife and I live in Minneapolis, but absolutely love the tropics. We were married in Key West and take frequent visits to anywhere warm during the harsh winter months up North. I have worked for the same company for over 25 years in the photographic industry and have a great appreciation for very beautiful places, like St. Thomas. I guarantee you will fall in love with this vacation villa.

Brooke and Orren Welch purchased this villa in 2015

Why Brooke and Orren Welch chose Estate Smith Bay

My wife and I recently stayed at Pavilions And Pools right before Thanksgiving in 2014 and absolutely fell in love with Villa 121 and the complex. We have made recent upgrades to the Villa that I'm sure you will love. The private pool and serenity made me want to buy this unit for future living. In the mean time I am more than happy to share my piece of heaven with you and your family.

What makes this villa unique

Pavilions And Pools - Villa 121 boasts a private pool just steps away from your bedroom door. The villa offers a full kitchen with all modern appliances as well as a king size bed and blow up mattress (a sofa bed will be available in March of 2015). Nestled away in the East End, a romantic experience is just a click away and a 5 minute walk to the most amazing beaches the Caribbean has to offer.

Privet place in paridice

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I spent our 25th anniversary at this wonderful place and hope to go back in the future. This is a very privet and intimate villa located in a great part of the island, just a couple miles away from the popular "Red Hook" area. There are some very nice beaches very close. Sapphire Beach, a very nice "free" beach, is well within walking distance, although I wouldn't recommend walking simply because the streets are very narrow and have no side walks. There is a good restaurant on site, I had several meals there and was not disappointed with any. It is open aired, and the mosquito's are pretty bad around dusk, so I would recommend some repellent! This goes for anywhere out doors around dusk. The villa itself was very nice. It has its own privet pool and decent sized deck. We used this a lot more than I thought we would. Its a great place to wind down after a full day of site seeing or simply spend a hole day just relaxing, again very privet. I suppose you could do just fine with out a car, but we rented one at the airport and used it every day to explore the islands. Most of the major rental company's allow you to take the car on the car barge over to St. John's as well. This is a $30 one way or $50 round trip. If you choose the round trip, you have to use the same service to come back, there are a couple that run at different times. If you are concerned about driving on the opposite side of the road "as I was", it isn't that bad to get used to. However the roads are pretty rough and their "speed Humps" will defiantly catch you off guard the first couple of times you encounter them!

Bottom line, this is a great place to spend several relaxing days, and I don't believe I could have found a better place to stay!

I hope that if you do manage to stay here, you enjoy it as much as we did!

ps: bring plenty of sun screen, it was 85 - 90 degrees every day in early November!

What a great place to stay on St Thomas!

  • 5 of 5

We just wrapped up our week in St Thomas and it was wonderful! Ellise and Dave were great to work with, responding promptly to my email inquires and phone calls as we worked to book the property. The onsite management at Pavilions and Pools were also very helpful providing advice and tips during our stay.

Having a private pool right outside our back door was such a treat! Some mornings we didn't even want to leave for the beaches… (But we did!) It's a short ride on the "dollar bus" to Red Hook where we caught the ferry to St John and enjoyed the beaches there. We also enjoyed Magens Bay at St Thomas (our favorite) and Sapphire Beach which is just a short walk from this unit at Pavilions and Pools. If you're looking for a special day on the water we highly recommend Simplicity Charters out of Red Hook - A 42 ft sailboat that takes up to 6 guests for a full day of sailing and snorkeling around the islands!

We loved our stay and look forward to a return visit!

Beautiful Place; Wonderful Owners!

  • 4 of 5

My husband & I rented Dave & Ellise's condo at Pools and Pavilions for 10 days in January 2014 and really enjoyed our stay. The condo is situated away from the road toward the back of the complex and, barring the occasional rooster, was rather quiet. Having the large fenced-in patio with a pool right outside was wonderful for relaxing and cooling down. We also really enjoyed the large grill, on which we cooked out a couple of the nights we stayed. The kitchen was fully functional and included many utensils and cookware. Additionally, the indoor garden shower is quite large and has plants etc, right to the side of the interior of the shower, and is lovely.

The location of the condo is pretty good as you can easily walk to Red Hook (about a mile), Sapphire Beach, or Lindquist Beach. Hint: to minimize time on the side of the curvy road which has no sidewalk, use the complex’ Beach Gate (you'll have to ask for the code). Catching cabs or a Safari bus ($2) is also easy as both frequently pass by the entrance of the Pavilions and Pools complex.

The Pools and Pavilions staff are friendly and ready to long as you aren’t asking for towels. We were only provided with one bath towel a piece and were never given beach/pool towels, even though we did ask for them on more than one occasion. Just make sure to bring towels from home to avoid this headache.

The complex has a quality bar/restaurant with prices far more reasonable than you’ll find in Red Hook, and the food was quite good. Just be prepared for slow service; it is after all, "island time!"

Finally, do be sure to have the owners instruct you on how to use the a/c unit. It has a timer that you have to set, and as we were not made aware of this feature, we thought we had no a/c for the first half of our stay. There also is not a landline telephone in the unit, so plan accordingly.

All in all we had a wonderful stay at Dave and Ellise's place. The owners were very attentive and kind and I would highly recommend staying at Pools and Pavilions.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words Erica - we strive for perfection and try to satisfy our guests to the best of our ability. Some things are out of our control as owners when using an on-site management company (they are the only option we have and for the most part do a great job). I addressed the towel issue with the management company and they told me that they do in fact give a set of both bath and beach towels and that they swap them out during the mid-stay cleaning which we provide for our guests (usually with a vacation rental there is no mid-stay cleaning at all but we provide it as an extra to our guests). Not being there to witness what goes on is difficult and why we encourage our guests to call, email or text us immediately (while there) if they think there is something not up to their or our expectations. As far as the AC timer, that is my fault for not mentioning it to you personally in the email and phone conversations we had prior to your arrival. It is listed in the welcome booklet/folder that is there on the coffee table that has all the information regarding the villa and surrounding area. Thanks for the feedback as we are constantly trying to make things as perfect as they can be. Like you said, it 's always "Island Time" down there and some things we take for granted here in the States aren't down there. Also, thanks for the great pictures you took of the Villa. They are fantastic and I would highly recommend you to anyone that asks about your services.

Thanksgiving Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely fell in love with this villa. It was clean, totally renovated and modern. The private pool was the clincher and the privacy was what we were looking for. We left the kids at home and had a great time. The beautiful beaches of the East End were minutes away and down town Red Hook was within a mile. We took the Safari Bus for $2. I highly recommend this complex and especially this villa. It was fabulous and we will return soon.
