About tracee

I am the great granddaughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller who settled here in the late 1800's. Gus came to this area to mine Silver at Lulu City with others like the famous Squeeky Bob Wheeler. He eventually settled down and brought his wife Anna to Grand Lake and became the first Master Plumber in Grand County. Anna had the first indoor running water in the County. My grandmother, Barbara Lorens married Gordon Spitzmiller (Gus's son) and they joined their plumbing business with grandma's dairy farm--on what is now Shadow Mtn. Lake. Eventually Shadow Mtn Reservoir was made, and so, we have property all along the river to the lake.

tracee purchased this cabin in 1940

Why tracee chose Grand Lake

This is one of 3 cabins, plus a family home, I own in Grand Lake. This is the 1 bedroom, and is the smallest of the units, but still about 900 sq feet. All my cabins are BIG. It has been fully renovated on the inside, and many find it so cozy and romantic that they call it the 'Love Shack'. We also have a 2/1 vrbo # 454309, and a 3/1 Homeaway # 3564480. Or if you have a big group and want to splurge, you can rent our family home, vrbo # 490482.

What makes this cabin unique

Very private and gorgeous property with easy access on and off the main road and only 2 miles to the village of Grand lake. You can canoe in the wildlife area from our meadow ( as the whole property is surrounded on 3-sides by the Colo. river) in the Summer or snowmobile right across the lake to town and the trails in the Winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I were on a cross-country road trip, and we decided to spend a couple of nights in Grand Lake. The cabin was decorated nicely. The bathroom was clean and recently renovated. The fireplace and wall heaters kept the cabin very warm, even though it was cold outside. There was plenty of firewood. The property is amazing! The cabin is located very close to town and the entrance to the National Park. I would recommend this cabin, or any other on the property,to my friends and family, over and over again. Tracee, the owner, was incredible. She treated us like family and was very accomodating. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Grand Lake.

I will most certainly be back. I will spread the word to all my colleagues and friends traveling from Florida.

Perfect mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is just as described if not better. It is easy to access but still feels like an escape to the mountains and wilderness. It is well equipped with everything you need for enjoying time away. The fire place warms the entire cabin and the views are magical, with big windows that allow you to wake up to stunning mountain views. There is always firewood and the bed is just as comfy as described. You’re also very close to grand lake village with restaurants, shops, and amazing snowmobile trails! I will definitely be back as much as I can!

Wonderful little cabin that has been lovingly upgraded.

Furnishings are eclectic and fun. Windows are large and provide wonderful views and great light. Linens and towels are first class. Wood stove in bedroom is the crowning touch. We will be back!

Amazing as expected

  • 5 of 5

After reading through all of the reviews on this cabin I was expecting an amazing time and I was right. The cabin was as explained and perfect for our trip. The bed and bedding was great and just about everything we needed was provided. The cabin was private, but still very close to the highway for easy access. Tracee let us check in early with no problem and while we didn't need to call Catie for anything, we talked to her while she was refilling the firewood without us asking. She was great too. Couldn't have been a better stay.

Very cute humble abode

  • 5 of 5

The home was very cute and cozy. Honestly not a problem with staying here for a couple days and 2 nights. We couldn't seem to get the oven/stove to work. Other than that the home was great.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review. I have checked the stove/oven and it is working well, BUT, I am so sorry you had trouble understanding it. I have added instructions to the cabin to assist people and , please, please, always feel free to call Caitie, the on-site manager. She is paid to be there and help with anything. Just think Butler-on-site, or Majordomo, on-site. She's super nice and truly enjoys making sure our guests have everything they need.

Comfortable cabin

  • 5 of 5

The sheets and furniture are high quality--this is a big plus over hotels who generally use mid-grade linens. It really helps with quality of sleep. The cabin has excellent hot water, (and very cold!) when needed. Nicely decorated and attention to details are a plus. I like how the stove fireplace heats up the whole cabin, it really gives you a warm feeling. This is my second time staying here and will probably be back. Thanks to the owner for keeping the place well equipped and maintained.

Owner's Response: Thanks. What an awesome review. I spend a lot of time and money on details--like the linens and spa robes and decor and furnishings, so for someone to notice and comment means a whole lot to me. Thanks. Tracee/owner
