Spacious House, perfect location, just a little tired

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time in this house and for the 7 of us we had plenty of room, the house is extremely spacious. Tom the owner was extremely helpful even though he was out of the country always responded to emails very quickly. The location was perfect literally 5 mins walk to the streetcar (trams) and about 10 mins the other way to the Bus - we used them everyday. The Kitchen was a good size however we did struggle with the amount of cups, plates and cookware for the 7 of us and number of pieces of china were chipped or cracked and certainly not enough crockery to use the dishwasher as once full their was very little left in the cupboard. We didn't use the oven as the door didn't close and the bottom one didnt work plus it wasn't very clean so we used the hob which was fine however we were sure we could smell gas but having spoken to Tom he assured us it was all perfectly safe. The Pool was a good size and was very welcoming after a very hot day out however the surroundings of the pool do need attention - just concrete which was old and tired and a number of weeds growing - could do we a few more seats outside their were 2 chairs and 3 camping chairs which we had to get out from between the pool and pump house and clean off. The outside shower was definitely a bonus - lovely and warm and perfect to have a proper shower after you have used the pool. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the house - it is just a little on the tired side and certainly needs restocking with crockery and pieces of furniture replaced rather than covered up. One other thing it would of been nice to have had a book with information on how to work some of the appliances and also a folder with information on local things to see and do.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Great location uptown - we walked to local coffee shop and ice cream parlor. Easy walk to the streetcar to the quarter. Perfect house for 2 families- very very family friendly and oriented. Tom greeted us upon arrival and he could not have been more pleasant, encouraging us to make ourselves at home. It was well appointed with minor quirks but we never felt we needed anything nor that it was upscale in a way we'd be concerned with the kids. We would recommend this property.

Great neighborhood, great host, great house, yet furnishings don't meet the quality

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing week at this very spacious house. The neighborhood is perfect for families or anyone who loves walking access to great restaurants, beautiful architecture, little traffic and great for a stroll or a jog. We parked two cars without a problem but also walked and rode the street car. The kitchen was well equipped with great cookware. The gas range seems very old but was of high quality and probably top of the line back in the day. We didn't use the stove. Plenty of counter and storage space. The pool is a great size for splashing around and doing a couple of strokes. It is not heated, which is probably normal but sometimes a surprise for northerners. The concrete looks old and worn. Despite all that we spent a lot of time in the pool and had a great time. There is a very functional child fence/screen that would block the entire pool from children although we didn't end up using it because we could lock the door from the house out to the pool. There is also a fenced front yard with a pergola. Back inside, the furniture is fine at first glance. But soon you notice many pieces are overly worn out. Recent reviewers must not have had a problem with the furniture which is surprising. There is a couch in each downstairs room and there are sheets on them used as furniture covers, covering up very worn upholstery. They are far below the quality I would have expected in such a nice house. The beds were comfortable for everyone in our group, but one mattress is on a box frame directly on the floor which might bother some people. The linens were mixed. Towels and most sheets were great, but some linens were worn or didn’t fit the beds right. If you have kids, they will definitely be happy here. There were so many toys, so many books, and even a little piano and some other instruments. I can’t emphasize enough how much the kid experience exceeded our expectations. And happy kids make happy parents. The bathrooms were fine and the plumbing worked but like several things in the house, might need a refresh. The host was fantastic. I’ve rented several VRBO and Airbnb and he was among the most responsive. And I think truly cared about our experience. I want to give this 5 stars because I had such a great time, but don’t want people to expect a perfectly polished rental property.

What a treat!

  • 5 of 5

Usually my husband Tom and I meet our daughters and their families in NOLA for a few days every March. Up until this year, we have stayed in a hotel in the French Quarter. For this vacation, we decided we would rent a house in uptown. I'm so glad we rented this home. The owners were so gracious and were very anxious to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Uptown is a marvelous little secret! We loved walking around and looking at all of the beautiful homes. The darling shops were so much fun (you must try the ice cream shop!) and the restaurants were crazy good! The streeetcar was only two short blocks away from the house so getting to the French Quarter was no problem.

We had family who came in from Diamondhead MS one evening to visit. We had arranged for a caterer and the dining room was just perfect for all of the family to gather around to enjoy the food and company. The house is itself is a work in progress as are the outside areas but this is not a problem. It is easy to succumb to the feel of history and charm of the house. The high ceilings, bookcases and wooden floors made this large home feel comfortable and welcoming. We would absolutely stay here again. We would like to say thank you to our hosts for letting us stay in their home and being so warm and welcoming!

Owner's Response: You are most welcome! And thank you, in turn, for being such lovely, conscience guests. We were glad your family enjoyed the place as much as you did. Please come again!

Perfect House!

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best vacactions I've ever had, hands down! This house was the perfect springboard to explore the city, and it was easy to get to the French Quarter, The Marigny, Audubon, Garden District (on and on) from the house. It was so bright, open and beautiful. It's very kid friendly and safe, which was a huge plus for us as we had 4 kids under the age of 12 with us. The furniture was new, modern and so comfortable. Not a lot of old dark antiques we were worried about. It was too cold to use the pool in January, but both side yards of the house are adorable. When we come back to Nola we will stay here again!
