About the property

Where Old World Charm Meets Modern Day Comfort In 1899 Home, 1100-sq-ft

One year after the French Quarter was established, Algiers Point was founded, making it the second-oldest neighborhood in the city. Maison Touriste is located in this historic area, which serves as a cherished reminder of authentic New Orleans.

+No need for a car...

Algiers Point is a leisurely 5-minute ferry ride across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. Your accommodations are 3 short blocks from the ferry, which drops you at the foot of Canal Street and the start of the French Quarter in addition to the Convention Center, Harrah’s, and a 20-minute walk to the Superdome! Other sites (such as the Garden District, Frenchmen Street, and Metairie Cemeteries) are reachable either by a longer walk, bicycle, street car, or short cab ride. Should you prefer to drive, it is a 10-minute drive to downtown and 15-minute drive to the French Quarter during normal traffic.

+All the charm of the Quarter but in a safe, quiet neighborhood...

The picturesque Algiers Point neighborhood is unique to the history of New Orleans; there is even a walking tour that highlights this quaint village. With the specific intent of renting to tourists, your hosts chose this neighborhood because of all that it has to offer, including the short ferry ride that eliminates expensive French Quarter parking. Please take a minute to research Algiers Point and you’ll see why we chose this amazing neighborhood to offer to our guests!

The house is perfectly positioned around the corner from an amazing breakfast/lunch restaurant called Tout De Suite, several churches, parks, and a little grocery store. A few blocks away you’ll find an English-style neighborhood pub plus other bars filled with friendly locals and restaurants as well as the Mississippi River levee and ferry port to the French Quarter. The ferry ride alone offers a unique view of New Orleans only available to those lucky enough to be staying in Algiers Point. While this is all easily accessible on foot, bicycles are available for a small fee -- a great way to see the river is by riding along the scenic Mississippi River Trail, which is just two blocks away from the house.

+ Explore the history, culture, music and food of New Orleans with all the comforts and amenities of home...

After a day of shopping on Royal Street, touring the awe-inspiring WWII Museum, strolling through the Garden District, or enjoying the sights and sounds of Bourbon Street, retreat to your own 1100-square-foot living space. You’ll have an entire apartment (half of a duplex), with all of the amenities. Two bedrooms, one full bath and one half bath, a full kitchen, dining, and living room are yours. You can also enjoy your morning coffee on the front porch, or relax with a bottle of wine on the Mississippi River levee!

+Old world detail meets modern-day comfort...

Enjoy the details of an era gone by in this craftsman-style home built in 1899. Hardwood pine floors, crown molding, two fireplaces with cypress mantels (non-functioning), 12-foot ceilings, transom windows, and more.

The master bedroom boasts luxury linens and pillows on a queen-size, four-poster bed. The second bedroom includes another queen-size bed with additional space for either a writing desk or a top-of-the-line, raised queen airbed as needed. Both bedrooms also have a 40' HD 1080p flatscreen TV, two comfy robes, and an alarm clock. In the bathrooms, two hairdryers and makeup mirror are available. Stainless-steel appliances and a kitchen stocked with a coffee pot, cookware, and dishes make eating meals at home a breeze. The brand new living room furniture includes a queen-size sofa bed. For your security and convenience, a push-button front door lock with a personalized code means no hassle of keeping track of a key.

Wonderful weekend celebrating 60 in New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

I can not possibly say enough good things about Mark and Angela and their beautiful home in Algiers Point. My sister and I treated our dad to a trip to New Orleans to celebrate his 60th birthday. Mark and Angela's rental caught my eye and I'm so glad it did. I have visited New Orleans previously, first time for my sister and dad, but had never spent time in the Algiers Point area. We were not disappointed! The neighborhood is so charming and we always felt safe walking from the house to the ferry/around town even at night. We took Mark and Angela's recommendations, getting drinks at the Crown & Anchor pub, having dinner at the Dry Dock Cafe and breakfast at Tout de Suite, all wonderful. We visited on a particularly cold and rainy weekend, so didn't use the ferry too often, but when we did it was convenient and we didn't have any trouble getting Lyfts or Ubers when needed. The house was lovely full of historic charm and very comfortable. We had everything we needed for our weekend. Also loved having Roxy the Chicken in the backyard to feed :) We really appreciated how flexible Mark and Angela were as we got to town early on Friday and they let us drop off our stuff before check in so we could get the trip started. They are both extremely warm and welcoming and very responsive. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to New Orleans no matter your age/occasion.

As advertised!

  • 5 of 5

We really liked it. We were greeted very nicely with thorough explanations on how to use the place and enjoy our stay. The place is very comfortable, clean, and with all the amenities. There is even a chicken that you can feed. The restaurant around the corner is great. Under a 10 minute walk to the ferry. Interesting neighborhood with New Orleans charm.

Beautiful home in a lovely neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay! Mark and Angela were amazing host. We were greeted upon arrival and felt immediately welcomed. The house is so warm and inviting and everything was clean and comfortable. There is street parking available in front of the house and you are just a short walk to the ferry. The neighborhood is safe and the local restaurants are great! We have already recommended this home to several of our friends. We look forward to staying here on our next New Orleans vacation!!

Everything we could have asked for on our trip to New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for several days in late July 2017. Everything about the property was wonderful. The location is in a very quiet, safe neighborhood (which was important for us as it was our first visit to New Orleans, and were traveling with children). On walks you would meet other people walking their pets or with their family, and they were very friendly. When we first arrived I was a bit concerned about the street parking (having experienced this in other cities), but that was unfounded - no issues at all.

The house is laid out well, and the furnishings, bedding and accessories were great. When we arrived the house was very clean (you can tell the owners take pride in the rental). It is very quiet at night and also during the day. My wife appreciated the washer and dryer which came in handy. During our stay it was very warm (at least by New Orleans standards), and the A/C at the property didn't struggle at all.

Mark and Angela are very knowledgeable about the area and provided some good tips for us, and were very welcoming and helpful when we arrived making sure we understood everything about the property. Read the other reviews for more information on the area and things to do, they helped us quite a bit in making our decision on this property. We loved it and would definitely go back and stay again in the future.

About Mark and Angela

Mark: Born and raised New Orleanian!

Angela: From Wisconsin...came to New Orleans for a work trip and fell in love with this city! I just HAD to move here.

In addition to learning everything we can about the history of New Orleans, we love traveling, music/theater, fitness, and food!

We also give tours! Food, Cocktail, History, Ghost and Voodoo tours!

Mark and Angela purchased this house in 2013

Why Mark and Angela chose Algiers

We were looking for a property that had the old New Orleanian details but was clean and comfortable at the same time. It was also extremely important to find a location that offered easy access to the French Quarter and downtown and a neighborhood that was quiet and authentically New Orleans.

Algiers Point was perfect, since the ferry to the French Quarter takes just 5 minutes and runs every 30 minutes, saving on the cost of expensive of parking. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet, which were also very important factors. Plus, just walking through the neighborhood one gets a feel of true New Orleans charm by seeing the restored homes, hearing the church bells, and receiving hellos from friendly neighbors.

What makes this house unique

We completely fell in love with the 13-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, and open living area. The neighborhood, being so quiet yet so close to the French just couldn't get any better. And the restaurant around the corner serves the best muffins and breakfasts!

Plus... we also give tours! Food, Cocktail, History, Ghost and Voodoo tours!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Angela and Mark welcomed us with enthusiasm and smiles. They not only provided us with a warm atmosphere but also an awesome history and experience of their city. Their love of New Orleans is quite evident and shows in everything they do. Anyone who comes to New Orleans will not go wrong staying at Maison Touriste!
