3 story home perched on a knoll with commanding 360 degree mountain views. Located in Custer County, Southern Colorado. 2 1/2 hours south of Denver.

Community recently received International Dark Skies recognition for shaded lighting which preserve the night time views of the Milky Way and the heavens above.

Experience mountain living with luxurious accommodations. Perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle of city living. Stellar star lit nights and quite days without the sounds of cars, lawn mowers and neighbors.

House features include; great room with a wood stove for chilly nights, dining room to seat eight and a fully stocked gourmet kitchen complete with the cooking and serving utensils to present any meal. Guest room, den with sleep sofa, full bath and gas fireplace on first floor. Kitchen, dining room, guest room 1 1/2 baths and wood burning stove on second floor with walk out deck. Master bedroom suite, gas stove, 5 piece bathroom and loft on 3rd floor. The house comes fully supplied with fresh linens, paper goods, washing and laundry supplies and an adequate supply of local Pinon or Ponderosa to burn on a cold Colorado night. Flat screen monitor with a collection of movies and books are available.

The ten acre property has large Ponderosa, Pinon, outcroppings and creates a natural park for contemplation and hiking. The large 900 sf deck provides a perfect perch to view the sunrise and sunsets. There is a barbeque perfect for cooking a buffalo steak or fresh trout if you had a lucky day on the river. From the deck you can see hawks, eagle, deer and now an then a curious bear or bob cat just exploring.

The property is located fifteen minutes south of the town of Westcliffe. Go off roading via Medano Pass through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Hike around the property or venture off to the many hiking trails and high altitude lakes in both the Wet Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The Arkansas River is nearby and offers great fly fishing and level 5 river rafting. Local Out Fitters provide horse back riding by the hour, day or week. Plenty of antiquing available in nearby Florence and Salida Colorado.

Summer time in Westcliffe offers many activities. Out door theatre in the park, Blue Grass Festival, Western Days, Movies at the local theatre, bowling or a dip in the community pool. Come in the spring when the snow still falls, enjoy the dry heat of the summer with the cool nights, come in the fall and see the splendor of the Aspens turning to gold.

In 1999 we moved to Westcliffe from New York to provide our daughter the experience to grow up in rural America. Being avid skiers we enjoyed the short commute to Monarch and participated in many community activities in Westcliffe from joining the Rotary Club to being an active member in the community theatre group. Incredible house and view!

We highly recommend Surveyor's Peak to anyone! You will love the spaciousness of the home, the view from the main floor and balcony, the fireplaces on three floors, and the beautiful gourmet kitchen. The house is located on top of one of the hills in the area--the highest one around. Neighbors are so spread out that you really can't see anyone from the house. The drive down dirt roads to the house is beautiful, and you will be amazed when you get there. Look up--the house is way up there!

On previous trips to the area, we visited many of the day trips in this area (Colorado Springs, Sand Dunes, Royal Gorge, etc.), so on this trip, we really just stayed in and enjoyed the beautiful house and scenery. We took small trips into Westcliffe several times, and there was just enough for us to do there. In Westcliffe, we would recommend the Sugar and Spice Mennonite Bakery and Chappy's Mountain Bar and Grill. (One caveat: almost everything in Westcliffe closes nightly around 5.) In the summer on Wednesdays, Westcliffe has a craft and food fair with live music on the main street from 9-ish until 1. The best fishing shops were in Salida--an hour drive away.

Several in our group (both young and old) have had problems with altitude sickness, so we purchased some cans of oxygen online and brought them with us. It really seemed to help. There is an oxygen bar in town if you need one.

On our final morning at Surveyor's Peak, we were sitting down to a large breakfast and a deer ambled down from the Peak, stopped and looked in at us over the deck, and kept moving along his path. Thank you, Gene! We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay.

This was our 3rd visit to Surveyor's Peak. Love the area and the view from the house is truly amazing! House is large and each bedroom has its own bathroom which is definitely a plus! The owner and the property manager are both great to work with. We plan on returning.

Our family of 8 loved it! Kids aged 18 to 10 and we had plenty of room to eat, hang out and sleep. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to experience the high life in Colorado!

Snow plowing is provided for immediate access to the property upon arrival and four wheel drive is suggested during the summer and is essential in winter. Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
