Step back in time in an Arts-and-Crafts style cottage preserved and filled with period antiques, while enjoying the modern amenities of a full kitchen, Cable TV, Bose music docking station, internet service, and comfortable beds. One and 1/2 baths, two bedrooms with queen beds, one with a single bed, the cottage comfortably sleeps 5. A working 1930 refrigerator and a vintage replica electric stove adds to the experience of living in an earlier era.
Relax on a large front porch, chat with passers by, and even nap outdoors on the swinging bed. The neighbors are welcoming and friendly.
You'll relish your daily strolls through the narrow streets under a canopy of monstrous pines and oak trees. You will delight in the architecture and artistic variety with each dwelling you pass.
There are three restaurants and an ice cream parlor within walking distance. The Jigger Shop Ice Cream Parlor has been in operation since 1895.
Cheryl and I grew up in south central Pennsylvania. Both of us enjoyed occasional summer days in Mt Gretna, swimming in the lake, skating at the roller rink, or visiting the Jigger Shop for ice cream. As post high school sweethearts we even dated there once or twice.
During the past 6 or 7 years some friends of ours invited us to stay with them at their Camp Meeting cottage on Art Show weekend. The thought of owning a place of our own was beginning to germinate.
Dale & Cheryl Kreider purchased this cottage in 2011
As our 35th wedding anniversary was approaching, we decided to begin looking. We immediately fell in love with this particular cottage because it had been kept relatively original in the interior. Though over time, a few modern amenities were added like a 1930 refrigerator and a vintage replica stove, a dish washer, microwave, Bathroom fixtures, etc., the walls of natural bead board have never been covered or painted. The cottage has the look and feel of the time it was built around 1900.
The name 'As You Wish', a line from the movie, 'The Princess Bride', makes it our personalized romantic getaway. Just thirteen miles and yet '100 years' from home, we come here as often as we can.
We removed all the modern lights and replaced them with antiques, including antique chandeliers in the dining room and two of the bedrooms. Virtually everything on the property is an antique with the exception of two comfortable chairs in the living room, and a flat screen TV hidden away on an articulating arm behind a closed door.
As You Wish is located on a nice street and surrounded by good neighbors on every side. Just a block from the Tabernacle, you can walk to enjoy the summer music festival events, or sit and enjoy them from the porch.
Heated in the winter and air conditioned in summer, you can find peace and solace here at any time of year.
I booked this home, planning on staying two nights - one night before my wedding and one night after with my bride, before we left on our honeymoon. Long story short, we ended up finding another place to stay our wedding night. The beds are very comfortable, but the decor honestly creeped us all out - quite the opposite of romantic. The boys had a great time the first night, but I would not recommend this place for a wedding night.
This was a girls weekend out and from the minute we arrived until we left we enjoyed our stay. The house is cozy, the beds comfy, the decor so cool and the location ideal. We would love to have a repeat vacation there in the future. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a great weekend away!
Booked last minute and we are happy we did. House is beautifully decorated. Interesting pieces in every corner. Lovely.
The porch Is wonderful, as is the whole neighborhood.
The owners are great, everything was clean, beds comfortable.....
Great spot for day trips...highly recommended!
We selected the cottage as our relaxation spot during our son's wedding in Mount Gretna. The cottage is absolutely adorable and has everything you need as your home away from home. The owners had everything ready for our arrival and were always available online for any questions or special arrangements. Everything was immaculate and in perfect condition. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for sharing your cottage with our family.
This cottage is authentic and just what I hoped it would be. It has modern conveniences that blend right in to the character of this cottage. The decor is true to the time and the porch is fantastic. Convenient parking both at the church and down at the park. Our family of 5 made it our home base for several days while visiting family in Lancaster and Mt. Joy, and going to Hersheypark. We were happy to enjoy music at the tabernacle, walk to the jigger shop, putt putt golf, etc. We also made use of some of the games on the bookshelf on a rainy day. Having grown up visiting Mt Gretna as I child, I can say this is a fantastic and enchanting place to stay. Thank you Cheryl!
Charming cottage steeped in history. Expansive from pitch for morning breakfast and long conversation with family in the evenings. Can't say enough how glad we are that we chose this unique getaway rather than a boring hotel room
See photos for a map to our cottage once you arrive in Mt Gretna.
