Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Urbana is the perfect get away, right in the middle of it all. It’s located in the heart of San Diego's most thriving cultural, business and leisure districts but when you step inside the gate, you leave it all behind. The house was built in 1889 and charms visitors with original architecture that’s been completely re-imagined and designed to accommodate guests with a taste for modern amenities and a contemporary aesthetic.

When you come to the flat from a day exploring the beaches, parks, and charming districts of San Diego, you step into an adult playground all your own. Use the gas BBQ and outdoor dining table while you enjoy the lush landscapes, raised bed gardens, bamboo fences and curving hard-scapes around you. Dine on the patio as you watch the sun set over downtown San Diego's skyline. Look down into the garden for a more secluded, peaceful view.

The kitchen offers everything you need with fully stocked cookware, new stainless steel appliances, BBQ tools, dish and glassware, silverware, a full set of chef’s cookware, graters, strainers, steamers and much more. The television and iPod doc are both there to entertain you while you whip up culinary creations as well.

The living space offers a flat screen smart TV, Wifi, Blu-ray player, board games and books to help you unwind and let your mind play.

Use it as a work, sleep or play space. It has full bed with luxurious bedding to lounge on during the day and sleep comfortably at the end of your day's adventures. A custom designed and built floating shelf holds the Blu-ray player and IHome speaker/charger/alarm clock. Lounge and read a book or catch up on emails under the reading lamp in a playfully buttoned designer sitting chair.

The bathroom has been completely remodeled with shower and fixtures. All linens, toilet paper and paper towels included.

Use the two person dining table at meals, and convert it to a work-desk when you need to. When the weather is nice (95% of the time in San Diego!) enjoy the outdoor sitting table and BBQ.

The studio has black out blinds, double paned windows that shut out the city sounds, high ceilings, hardwood floors, a ceiling fan, heater, AC and all new cabinetry, tile, and fixtures. We love staying here, and hope you will too!

The studio also has soundproofed double doors that can be opened up to a neighboring rental. If you're interested in a larger space, or in vacationing with another couple or with kids, this a great way to share lodging with the option of privacy. Please let us know if you're interested in a double studio stay!

About Marie

Our family has lived in Ramona since the 1960s, and works to refurbish homes in San Diego, hoping to breath new life into their communities. We worked together to transform this 1889 historic home into a contemporary playground for vacationers and a respite for business people. Rob is a green designer and builder who has innovated energy efficient homes in San Diego for 40 years. Deborah, his wife, has worked to design the landscape, raised bed gardens, and hard-scapes surrounding the house. I worked together with my parents to design the interiors, furnish the cottage, and make prints of my original paintings for the interiors. I have a masters degree in painting and lived in the bay area for the past ten years working with kids.

We're a family of four generations of San Diego musicians, builders and artists who hope to host visitors and show them the best of what our home town has to offer. We love to travel, meet new people, and create. We hope that this flat feels like home to you.

My stay was amazing. The flat was in a perfectly convenient location, the residence had everything I needed, was clean and classy. THE BED! Oh my goodness, I contemplated losing my security deposit and taking the mattress home with me.. haha. But anyways, this flat is affordable, in a good location, and perfect for solo travelers myself, and couples alike!

Weekend get away to San Diego.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the place very much, it was small, but very clean and perfect for what we needed for our weekend get away. Kitchen was awesome, just didn't have much time to cook in it except for coffee...lol. It was very close to everything that we had planned to do. We were a little scared to walk at night with all the homeless around, but during the day we walked all over Little Italy which was not far at all. It is literally about 1.5 blocks to get on the Interstate 5 too. It is very close to the flight path, but luckily the planes do run all night. If the windows are closed it is not too bad for noise. We would definitely stay here again.

This home made our vacation so relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a couple nights. At first your'e worried that the number of homeless around will affect your stay but this home offers a safe sanctuary to relax. She provided everything we needed besides honey haha Our favorite parts were the robes, tea, and blue tooth speaker. The check in was easy and the checkout wasnt bad at all. Its close to everything downtown and parking was free, close, and never an issue. I highly recommend staying here.

Great little place if you just need somewhere to stay a short time

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at this flat. It was small, like other reviews say, but it was perfect for what we needed. The bed was comfortable which is a big plus when you're 6 months pregnant! I did have to contact the owner to fix a light out and some dead batteries, he was available and courteous of our privacy. My husband's gripe was that the shower is very small, which it is, but we were still able to shower. Everything was clean and tidy it was a very cute place. I agree with another reviewer that it may not be for older people or people who have trouble with steps and stairs. Everything is pretty nearby, we took uber to get to where we wanted to go. The furthest we went was La Jolla and it was about 20-25 min north. Overall, we are glad we chose this place.

Perfect place to crash for a few days

  • 5 of 5

I loved this place, it is small but it has everything you need for a long weekend. It is within walking distance of just about everything downtown, including the start and finish lines of the race I ran! The owner made sure everything was tidy and ready to go, check in was a snap, so was checkout. My damage deposit was refunded in a timely manner, overall a great place to stay, I would go back!
