Our windows reflect some of the most spectacular scenery on the Pacific Coast. To the south runs rugged, rocky ocean front. To the north stretches a beautiful sandy beach, sheltered from the waves by sea stacks and a small rock island that harbors a large population of birds and a colony of sea lions.
A very long sandy beach at the southern edge of town (South Beach), tends to be relatively protected because of the U-shaped coastline.
The coastal redwoods here are among the most grand and spectacular of their kind and form cathedral-like hiking areas.
On the west side of highway 101 the steep slopes descend all the way to rocky beaches and small coves at the Pacific Ocean. On the east side, moss-covered forests often provide beautiful views of rays of sunlight penetrating a hazy atmosphere.
This corner of California is an outdoors paradise, and yet is still relatively quiet and unspoiled.
the moment we walked into this home it felt like home for our 2 families. My husband and I along with our son and 2 children stayed here and we absolutely loved the layout of this home for privacy yet a common area that we could all enjoy together. The appliances are top notch for cooking. The view and access to the beach are incredible. We loved keeping the windows open upstairs to hear the sound of the ocean. The house was spotless when we walked in and all furniture in great condition.A great extra amenity was the playset outside for children and even books to read for adults and children in a thoughtful library nook off the downstairs bedroom. If I could give any constructive recommendations it would be to replace a few of the matresses on the daybeds and also the double upstairs.other than that this house was perfect in every way and well thought through for guests. Thank-you thank-you for sharing it with us. we will be back!!
Absolutely fabulous. It is directly across from the beach. The stairs to the beach is 100-200 feet down the street (3 houses). We were also able to park the car in the garage which was a pleasant surprise. On the main floor, there are three rooms - two with queen beds and one with two twin beds. The second floor is set up like a studio apartment with one queen bed and a twin bed plus a bathroom, kitchen and t.v. room. There is also access to the balcony from upstairs.
The main floor kitchen was a little small but fully stocked and came with a wonderful 6 burner gas stove. Another plus was a swing set in the enclosed backyard for the kids to play on.
Another item that was important to me, it was handicapped accessible for the most part. One person in our party can't do stairs and walks with a cane. He had no issues getting around the house (except he couldn't get to the second floor). Someone who is wheelchair bound may find it difficult to get in/out of the bathrooms.
I recommend this property.
After our 12 hour uneventful trip it was so nice to find our son and his family had selected the downstairs bedrooms across from each other and a full bathroom large enough for the washer and dryer. They selected the bedroom with 2 twin beds for their children and the bedroom with a full size bed across the hall for him and his wife.
The center of the downstairs was the kitchen and another full bath across from the kitchen sink. The kitchen opened to the family room complete with TV and an electric fireplace. There was another bedroom with a King bed directly next to the other end of the family room.
We chose the upstairs apartment with a Queen size & twin bed complete with a full bath, 2 rocker recliners, microwave, kitchen table w/4 chairs, an electric fireplace & flat screen TV. You could actually use the outside stairs down to the backyard as your own private entrance up to this room. There were windows along the upstairs on the west side. You could enjoy the cool breeze & hear the ocean smashing against the rocks. We really did not need to take the inside stairs. Next to the tall Dining table there was a glider in a small area with a window you could see outside as well.
We had a wonderful surprise the next morning. The amenities did not mention anything about a swing set out in the backyard. Our grandchildren were so excited to see this, they were not interested in breakfast. After a quick clean up, we packed our ice chests & headed out for a SHORT ride to the giant Redwoods. We did some "critter" hunting, a favorite past time of our son as a boy, picture taking, & trying to teach our grandchildren to "skip" a rock on a smooth pond. After letting the children get their "feet" wet (up to their waist) we started our short trip home, only to change out of wet clothing & back out we went again. This home is not far from everything we wanted to do. And, as the best of both worlds could be, the swing set in the backyard was just as much fun as the park had to offer down town only there was NOT a line to get in to be pushed "higher" please. Our evening came quickly as too many vacations do & we asked the men to BBQ on the gas BBQ in the backyard, we all ate, took showers/baths & after a little constellation searching, we all hit the sack. The cool breeze made our apartment" just right. Our next day was equally busy.
This home is a great place for everything to see in Crescent City. We hope to come back here year after year. :):)
This house was a great fit for our family. It's the perfect location in Crescent City. We enjoyed several beautiful ocean sunsets from the house and from the beach just across the street. The kitchen was smaller than we would have liked but had everything we needed. We loved the area beaches, trails, wildlife and redwoods!
We loved this home! Clean, plenty of room, beautiful views! Just two suggestions. The kitchen need more cabinet space, no where to put food and the mattresses in the bedroom with the daybeds need to be replaced. But neither of those things really effected our stay. The beach is magnificent and so are the nearby Redwoods. We are already talking about going back. It was a great vacation!!
8 people in our family party, 5 adults and 3 grandchildren. The space in this home was perfect, with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, kitchen and front room. The view of the ocean was absolutely beautiful. We had the privilege of watching whales early one evening. The added feature that is not advertised for this property is a great playground set in the back yard, which our grandchildren loved! It was a perfect pick for our family.
I would highly recommend this place for family get togethers.
