Our building, originally built in 1908 as a house was renovated in the 50's into 4 private apartments. In 2013, Portland native, Margot re-established the apts as private one bedroom vacation rentals. All units are fully furnished with the amenities of home. Located in one of Portland's most vibrant neighborhoods and with in walking distance to the best restaurants, bars, shopping and parks. We are 10 minutes to downtown proper and just 20 minutes from PDX. We love pets and a private parking lot is included in your rental.

PLEASE NOTE: The main level at Opal 28 is a boutique event space hosting wedding, birthdays, corporate meetings and more. It is possible there will be people and music on site, downstairs, ending by 10PM SHARP. Margot returned to her Portland roots in the Fall of 2009, after spending time in both Chicago & San Francisco. With experience in marketing & events and a passion for travel and exploring, her entrepreneurial spirit runs both Opal 28, a boutique event space and Dinner At Your Door, a local dinner delivery service on the ground level of the Upstairs at Opal 28. Margot has a keen sense of customer service, knowledge about Portland's must sees, and a cheerful demeanor. You are guaranteed a comfortable experience when you stay with her.

When Margot is not perfecting her business plans she enjoys playing in the Pearl with her niece & nephew, heading to the mountain to ski and cozying up at a coffee shop to read the latest magazines.

This well taken care of vintage building was purchased for the sole purpose of operating short stay accommodations. There is no better way to explore a new city than to spend a few days living in a true Portland neighborhood full of charm and the option to walk to activities.

What makes this apartment unique

We have four spacious one bedroom apartments that can be rented out for 2-4 occupants each or rent out more than one unit to accommodate your bigger travel companions. Additionally, the lower level unit is a private event space with a commercial kitchen and out door area for wedding celebrations, family reunions, corporate events and any other parties.

The vintage apartments at Opal 28 are nothing short of stunning. We love staying here, and plan on reutrning. Everything is so thoughtfully decorated. The beds are amazing and perfect for having a nice relaxing sleep. Easy to park, and such a great location! Margot is a wonderful host and made check in a breeze. Thanks for hosting us!

Easy to get to

We found Opal 28 was easily accessed from the freeway and downtown. The parking lot was a blessing as street parking was non-existent most of the time due to the great restaurants in the area. The apartment was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen could use some dish cloths, and the bathroom could use washcloths. We found dirty glasses in the cupboard and dirty silverware in the drawers. Dust bunnies under the bed and sofa, along with food particles, should be attended to with each cleaning. The vintage building is very fun, but be prepared for lots of stairs to get up to the main floor.

Spacious and close to great restaurants

I was happy with my stay at Opal. The apartment was clean and I was allowed a late check out which was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable and the location is great. There are many fun places to walk to nearby.

The description mentions the event location downstairs, but it might make it a bit more clear to explain that events can go on until 11:00 at night. Two of the nights I stayed ( Friday and Saturday) I did experience very loud noise: one night until 11:20 pm and the other night until 10:30 pm. It was not, at all, the end of the world; however, if I had come with young children or if I had to be up extra early, this could have been problematic. Just explaining this in the description would make everything more clear.

I would stay at Opal again!

A Good Place to Stay

This was an easy and comfortable place to stay. The parking lot was great for us as we could unhitch our trailer and leave it there. Communication was very good and timely. It was hot in Portland and the air conditioner did it's job. The bed was large and comfy. It would be nice to have a couple more bath towels and a small towel in the kitchen. The light bulb was out in the dining nook. I would definitely stay there again.

Located in the Laurelhurst/Kerns neighborhood, one of Portland’s most vibrant, fun and hip residential areas. The building is on 28th between Glisan and Hoyt. 28th is a two lane, bustling thoroughfare, and Glisan (turns into Burnside which connects the West Side of Portland to the East Side, this offers easy access to the NW and Downtown areas. We are also less than 15 minutes to PDX and walking distance to Hawthorne and Belmont shopping districts. We have a private parking lot across the street.

The unit is mainly hardwood floors and all the amenities of your own home. The bedroom is large with king bed (or a queen) depending on the unit and walk-in closet. All windows in the unit look to our outdoor garden and private outdoor patio that is open for your use. The unit is equipped with flat screen HDTV, cable, CD/DVD and wireless internet. The kitchen has a dining area and includes a coffee pot, microwave, full size stove, other kitchen essentials and the option to have a home cooked meal ready for you upon arrival, please inquire upon booking. The bathroom has a pedestal sink and bathtub with all the bathroom essentials including luxury towels, soap and more.
