About Sandy Palmgren

We purchased this condo at the Makaha Valley Towers after purchasing one for our personal use. We enjoy our retreats to Makaha from our business in Texas so much that we knew other people would like to stay here as well.

Sandy Palmgren purchased this condo in 2013

Why Sandy Palmgren chose Mākaha Valley

We chose this property because of the serenity of the area and the beautiful, lush landscaping of the Makaha Valley Towers. Another important factor was the beautiful mountain and ocean views that can be enjoyed from the floor to ceiling windows located in each of the condos.

What makes this condo unique

This property is beautifully maintained and provides 24 hour security. The peacocks which roam the property are incredible and if we receive enough rain, the waterfalls right outside your front door are spectacular! The sandy beaches are the most beautiful and secluded beaches you will find anywhere on the island. The two bedroom condos are rarely available in the Makaha Valley Towers and they have a private lanai which is not available in the one bedroom condos.

Superb Condo!

  • 5 of 5

Our reservations to visit my oldest son, who is stationed in Oahu was made last minute --- not our usual practice for traveling such a long distance! We were delighted immediately upon arriving at this lovely condo! It is clean, well maintained, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with everything a family would need for preparing simple meals to visiting beaches all around the island! We quickly and easily fell into vacation mode --- the beds are amazingly comfortable and the peace and quiet lulled us into sleeping later than usual each morning. Our days started with fresh brewed Kona coffee and a big leisurely breakfast. We planned to see a different side of the island each day (North Shore, Windward side, Ko'Olina, Waikiki, Honolulu, and the Arizona Memorial of course). As it turns out, our favorite beach with all the sea turtles (Makaha) was just down the street (Kili Drive)! By leaving late morning and not getting back until after the beach and enjoying a great casual dinner at the many local restaurants/grills in the area we were visiting, we never encountered traffic. Our two favorite restaurants were the Kona Brewery which is east of Honolulu (Windward side) and Joe's Seafood Grill in Haleiwa. It was pure joy to return each evening as the sun was setting to this beautiful condo for hot showers, a cold beer or chilled wine, a lovely view, and the relaxing serenity of Makaha Valley.

PS--- I would also recommend going down to Makaha Beach in the evening to sit and watch the sunset. Words cannot describe the peace and beauty you will surely experience! Mahalo!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful condo. It was just as pictured except we missed seeing that decorative lamp. Hope no one walked away with it. Nice to see coffee and creamer were there for us for the next morning since we had not stopped on the way to condo for any supplies due to exhaustion from long flights. We were there eleven nights and found it very peaceful and quiet. Yes the peacocks let you know they are around but not annoyingly so. They are part of the natural surroundings and we were not disturbed by them on the 13th floor. We had several breakfasts and a few dinners in the condo and had everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare the meals. We shopped at the market just a few minutes away called Tumera. It also had a good selection of wine, liquor, and beer and fairly reasonable prices. About fifteen minutes further also on the left is the Countryside Cafe where we enjoyed very good and hearty breakfasts. The beds at the condo were very comfortable. Even with air conditioning it did get hot in the master bedroom but with keeping the drapes closed as soon as the sun peaked over the hill and keeping the fans going (three were stored in the closet) and strategically placed, we were comfortable and slept well. We felt very much at home here. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Be prepared for heavy traffic going to and from Honolulu and plan ahead accordingly. We wished that the ride was shorter. We thought the distance was okay thinking 20-30 minutes was doable but the traffic made it much longer 45-80 minutes more than half gridlocked. However, the condo was inviting, well decorated and comfortable, a good place to stay.

NOT for families

  • 1 of 5

Let me begin by saying that the owner Sandy was very accommodating and answered all inquiries in a timely fashion. The unit itself was nicely furnished and there were small supplies available- which was much appreciated. The property was well maintained-the pool area was nicely furnished. The BBQ area never was too busy that we were unable to prepare our meals. There were numerous incredible beaches all within a short drive of the condo. The surrounding area was very resource poor and I would not want to walk at night anywhere. The condo location was far away from shopping areas, however, we found some good local places to eat.

I am rating the stay with one star as I feel the culture of the building (aka-THE RULES) were not disclosed to us by the owner before we arrived. Had we known ahead of time what we discovered when we arrived, we would have never booked here. We were two families travelling together with 4 boys between us ages 15-11. Within the first 48 hours, we collectively had received 6 official written reprimands which, if we broke the same rule twice, would be charged $50. The rules clearly communicate that the permanent tenants do not like renters and their perspective on children is that they should barely be seen and definitely not heard. Summary of the RULES that we broke-I'm sure there are many more: no children under age 18 are allowed to walk anywhere on the property without the constant supervision of an adult (my oldest son has his learner drivers license) No throwing of any kinds of objects- ie) playing catch or tossing a Frisbee or football. No wheeled ANYTHING_ residents are not even allowed to ride their bicycles on the property. We were ticketed for some sand outside the door of the condo. No towels drying on the lanai- which was a major pain as there were no washer/dryer in suite. Do not park your vehicle with any part of the tire touching the white line. The security guards actually tailed our kids in their golf carts and we were told by one security guard that they had been "briefed" about our kids in their morning meeting. The security guard parked herself by the pool one day for 2 hours to make sure our boys were not jumping in the pool- they were reprimanded not only for jumping off the edge of the pool but also jumping while IN the pool!! No water toys of any kind in the pool either. Great spot for couples, adults or seniors, but families- find another place to stay.

Beautiful Condo!! Fantastic Views!!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our vacation in Makaha and this beautiful condo! The grounds were pristine and the staff was very accommodating. We brought our 18 month old son and he loved the pool. But be aware you are not allowed to use pool toys. We did not find the drive to other parts of the island to be too bad, as we planned our days around rush hours. The condo had everything we needed to prepare meals, but we enjoyed going to Ko Olina and eating at Cheesecake Factory and The Aulani Resort. There are also plenty of fast food restaurants near the condo. Plus, my husband LOVED the Hula Girl Shrimp Truck that is parked down the road from the condo most weekdays during lunch. Also, stop and enjoy the Acaii bowls at Ruby's truck!! I have never tasted such fresh fruit and her pastries are AMAZING!! We took a day and went on the dolphin tour out of Waianae harbor, (leaving our son with other family members was a nice break). We saw LOTS of dolphins and WHALES!!! Plus, the snorkeling was GREAT!!! I would highly recommend this tour! My husband took some time to play a round of golf with my dad. He said the course was challenging but had stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the ocean. He was also extremely happy and surprised that the rates to play golf were so reasonable! If you are looking for a vacation away from the busy crowds in Waikiki, I highly recommend this condo and we look forward to coming back again!

Great location and fabulous apartment

  • 5 of 5

Quick drive to Makaha beach where the waves are great and five minutes to calm Pocai Bay. Makaha Valley Towers has a big pool, bbq and picnic area. This two bedroom apartment is equipped to the nines. Three cable tv’s, fast WiFi,fully equipped kitchen - a great place for a quiet beach holiday in the sun.

Lovely Condo

  • 4 of 5

This condo is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is also well stocked but you do need to bring some of your own supplies as well ; we ended up needing to purchase garbage bags, zip locks, tin foil, Saran Wrap. The condo feels very safe, the pool is great and the nearby beach is amazing. The shower curtain does need to be replaced. Wi-fi is very good. The building itself is older but well maintained and the staff are very friendly. If you have young, rambunctious kids not sure this is the complex for you, most guests are more mature and it's a quiet atmosphere.

Owner's Response: I am so happy that you found the condo comfortable and beautifully decorated. I appreciate you letting me know that the shower curtain needs to be replaced. I will be sure to have my property manager take care of that. Thank-you for taking time to post such a nice review. We look forward to having you as our guests again the next time you visit Hawaii! Mahalo! Sandy
