A Home as sensual as its setting - avant-garde minimalist architecture (Metropolitan Home of the Year) in the heart of Manuel Antonio!
Perched on a steep tropical hill-side above the Pacific Ocean, just minutes north of famous Manuel Antonio National Park, this stunning architectural gem showcases an inspired modern spin on Jungle Geometry: The Villa's spine - 2 immense almond beams - is supported by a double row of massive columns that march through the tri-level 'great room' to a panoramic window-wall, marking the increase in ceiling height from 14 - 24 feet, as the space steps down.
From the entrance porch, strikingly sculptured stairs either levitate to a lofty mezzanine and further up to the master suite and sun-deck above, or widen as they flow down to the kitchen/dining level and the living room below - always inviting to double as seating. The vast floor-to-ceiling glass facade opens to a water-edged living terrace shaded by 3 smartly suspended sails, while high cedar doors attend the side-wing-suite on the right side of the living room level.
CalaLuna was designed to be in tune with its tropical landscape - open to the sea breezes, the scent of ylang ylang trees and the ever-changing light of its rainforest environment. Rooms extend onto expansive balconies, patios and hammock-strung terraces, while the magnificent infinity pool is carved into the hillside and embedded in lush tropical vegetation - shimmering sea views from everywhere.
White walls and sand-colored polished cement floors are offset by playful splashes of color - sun-drenched orange, reds and fuchsia - black granite kitchen counters and richly grained native woods.
A haven completely calm and serene contrasting the abundance of the jungle’s greenery - boldly simple in its furnishings and always sophisticated in its fusion of honest materials and textures - concrete, steel, glass, granite, slate, flagstone and plenty of local hard-woods.
Minimal in decor and yet rich in space, light, ideas and imagination.

QUEPOS, 25 min. by air from San Jose or 3 hours by car, a sport-fishing town and the commercial center of the area (shopping / markets / medical center / banks / car rentals / casino, etc.)
MANUEL ANTONIO: 3 Miles south of Quepos, Costa Rica's most exciting tropical coastal region with several off-shore islands and the truly famous MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK - world renowned for its beautiful white sand beaches, monkeys, and amazing variety of wildlife and fauna - a true jungle paradise showcasing the area's natural magnificence.
BEACHES, etc: We are overlooking the northern part of Manuel Antonio's main beach, Playa Espadilla, just 1/2 a mile down our coastal road. Can't beat the location.
The house is fantastic and the views unbeatable. The pictures are spot on. The location is great as you can get to anywhere you want quickly and a car isn't necessary as the bus is easy to pick up and get to town or the beach and Angie didnt mind calling cabs whenever needed. Our favorite part was the pool which is a jungle hideout and a great spot to see toucans, monkeys, sloths, etc. Chef Marisol is amazing and you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal for food. We had a couple slight concerns to start but Angie and Thomas are there whenever you need them and everything was resolved quickly. The drive away is steep as others have noted but nothing unbearable by any means. We hope to make it back!
I have stayed in Manuel Antonio many times but Villa CalaLuna along with the jungle and ocean view was amazing. Postcard views. You honestly feel like you are in the middle of the jungle and no other homes or building are around you. The pictures of the house on VRBO are exactly what you will see upon your arrival. The house has a modern design. Good amount of steps but we all achieved our fitness goal by noon. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet, jungle, wildlife, amazing house than this is for you.
Scarlet Macaws flew over the house every morning and back over in the evening. If your a night owl, hang out on the terrace and listen to the howler monkeys until sunrise. A few capuchins stopped by one day for a quick visit and a peek through the doors. Squirrel Monkeys passed through at least twice during our stay. That’s just a few of the animals that are easily seen from the house. DON’T FEED THE WILDLIFE!!!
We had the chef for our arrival and they were worth every penny. The food was as good if not better than most of the local restaurants and huge portions. Enough for the next day. Highly recommend!
Can’t wait to go back.
We just returned from a visit to paradise!!!!
The house is architecturally beautiful. 3 air conditioned bedrooms with waterfall showers you will not want to get out of. The views from all the terraces are mesmerizingly beautiful. The sunsets are beautiful beyond description and we eagerly awaited the next one although we never wanted to wish away our exciting adventure filled days.We are a family of 8, 5 adults and 3 boys ages 9, 13 and 16 and every one of us loved all the expeditions from ziplining to river rafting, jungle hikes etc.. that we went on.
Thomas answered each and every question we had as soon as we booked, and when we got there Angie took care of everything from a
chef prepared meal which was fabulous, to all of our activities fromhandling every and any request from planning activities to troubleshooting house issues. She is unflappable and amazing and cheerful.
We all loved the property, but found the driveway challenging both up and down . This is not a property for those with young children or people with physical disabililities. There are no railings on the stairs and the drop offs are considerable.
Aside from that it is a dream come true and we all had an amazingly wonderful time. Pura Vida!!!!!
Lovely home with superb views of the ocean. Spectacular architecture unlike anything one encounters in the USA. Impeccable concierge service. Not child friendly or handicap accessible
We had an exceptional time at Costa Rica!! Starting with this gorgeous house. It is centrally located and walking distance to restaurants and shops. Angie arranged all the excursions and restaurant reservations. She had an itinerary prepared for us upon our arrival. She is super helpful and accommodating. Definitely have Marisol cook dinner at the house, her cooking is better than most of the local restaurants. So much wildlife to see from the house, we saw a sloth, monkeys, hummingbirds and all kinds of beautiful birds. We will definitely return to Costa Rica. One of our best family vacations!!
Villa Calaluna is ideally situated in the heart of Manuel Antonio, easy walking distance to a number of restaurants (Emilio's has a great breakfast and ambiance) and close to all the attractions, including Manuel Antonio Park. Thomas, the concierge, and his assistant, Angie, were gracious, helpful and always accessible. Our family of five booked all of our experiences through Thomas and Angie, including kayaking, zip lining, a sunset cruise, and a national park tour. Transportation was included, so although we rented a car, we never used it. We highly recommend making use of chef Marisol. It was lovely to arrive after a long journey to a gourmet meal! The house itself is beautiful, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. (Families with very young children should know that some staircases and landings do not have railings.) The views are spectacular. Wildlife, including capuchin monkeys and toucans, are all over the property. The infinity pool is pristine. This was without a doubt the nicest and most hospitable property we have ever booked on VRBO!
The diversity of the area provides those seeking serenity with inspirational views of the Pacific Ocean from the elevation of a tropical rain forest hillside. Conversely, the area provides those seeking adventure with World Class Sport-fishing, Whitewater Rafting, Jungle Canopy Zip-lining, and many other activities. The Villa is located within casual walking distance of many restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops and bars.
