As vrbo listers since 2007, we have had dozens of satisfied travelers stay in our original listing located nearby in Coronado. We purchased this magnificent historic Victorian home in 2013 and have completed some minor cosmetic modifications to accommodate those looking for a unique vacation rental.
Cassandra Stroud purchased this house in 2013
The home is currently under stewardship of the trustee for the Bertha Stroud Family Trust and was purchased not only to establish a legacy estate for the heirs of the trust, but to share this historic landmark with locals and visitors to San Diego.
This property was chosen because, just like the namesake of the trust, it is eclectic, whimsical, and possesses a unconventional character that can best be described as eccentrically unique.
For travelers looking for the charm of a bed and breakfast, but prefer the privacy of a vacation rental with the ability to make their own meals - this home is a perfect choice.
To celebrate my sisters 50th birthday with one of her best friends, we stayed at this wonderful Victorian home. My sister LOVES Victorian's and yellow is her favorite color, so how could this miss? We stayed for 3 nights and had a fabulous time. We cooked, hung out and visited, and just enjoyed the time together while enjoying this historic home. I would love to get a large group together and rent the entire place. I highly recommend staying here. The owner was very nice working with me on some specific time frames and I greatly appreciated that.
Having lived in San Diego many, many years ago, I was a bit apprehensive staying in the downtown area. Back then, no one would live or stay there. OMG, what a treat to find this hidden treasure. This house was not short on charm, was conveniently located and EXTREMELY quiet !! I have to say, I wanted to take the mattress home with me !!! I hope to return to San Diego in the future and would definitely rebook !!!!!!
We came down for a long weekend in San Diego and stumbled upon this great rental via Tripping.com. It has quite a bit of character and charm while still having all your necessities. Cassandra was very communicative throughout the booking process and quite pleasant. The price was very affordable and we would absolutely stay again!
My Stay at this historic home was not only unique but a great place to stay! Very convenient to the downtown San Diego area, walking distance from Little Italy and the San Diego Harbor. The Victorian Home was full of very interesting antiques which gave it a sense of nostalgia yet it had all the modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Very spacious and private and the hospitality that Cassandra displayed was great! This place is so much better than your average hotel room. I would definitely stay here again!
The ground floor of the house had lots of stained glass windows and nice Victorian touches. We enjoyed walking to Balboa park and the zoo, down to the USS Midway or over to Gaslamp for dinner.
This 1887 built Victorian style home exudes unique characters and personal touch. We booked it at the last minute while all other hotel chains were fully booked over the weekend. Even Holiday Inn Express costed $270/night. It was very close to USS Midway and Sea World and right at the heart of San Diego downtown. Very convenient location to everywhere. We stayed at their first floor (two bedrooms and 2.5 baths). It suits our family of 6 perfectly and everyone agreed that it was much more comfy than staying at a hotel!! Loved the antique decoration and the warm ambiance sure made us feel like staying at home. The entire transaction and refund of deposit went smoothly and speedily. This made our very first vacation home experience unforgettable and enjoyable!
Bankers Hill is one of San Diego's nicest upscale residential neighborhoods located west of Balboa Park and east of Little Italy. SDhouse is located in the long established neighborhood Park West, an area which also acquired the name 'Bankers Hill' because of its reputation as a home for the affluent.
Bankers Hill is an ideal place to go for an afternoon walk. The walk will offer you spectacular views of the city and the intrigue of some of San Diego's finest historic homes.
Some of the popular Bankers Hill restaurants include Bertrand at Mr. A's that has amazing views, Busalacci's, Cucina Urbana, The Hob Nob Cafe, and The Bankers Hill Restaurant. As a result of this idealistic location, the SDhouse is conveniently located to many attractions & amenities.
Bankers Hill is best known for some of the grandest homes in San Diego and the incredible hillside view that looks over downtown San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. Banker's Hill has some of the best examples of high end residential architecture that dates back to the late 1800's. Examples of Victorian, Craftsman, Revival, and Emerging Modern homes can be seen throughout the Bankers Hill area. Many of the original mansions that were built here have been restored to their original beauty and some have been converted into professional buildings used by lawyers, doctors, dentists, and small companies.
With views of the Pacific Ocean and Balboa Park, Bankers Hill is home to young professionals who want to live in an urban pedestrian setting. As many homes are actually positioned up on a 'hill' overlooking Downtown, San Diego Bay, Coronado, and the airport, it is common to see people spending their time watching the airplanes landing and the sun setting across the water.
