Property description

Sitting atop Banker's Hill, perhaps the most historic and romantic of San Diego's neighborhoods, is the Sherman Doig House (SDhouse). Built in 1887, this historic privately owned Victorian home is now available for overnight stays and offers the intimacy of a bed and breakfast in the center of 'Americas Finest City'.
The rooms are charming and eclectic. The neighborhood is delightful and centrally located.

The listing is for the bottom two floors of this magnificent home which make up an opulent four bedroom/3 bath residence with an inner connecting stairway along with two private exterior entrances, and includes designated parking for 3, free WiFi and DirectTV, and also includes the adjoining Carriage House; all together sleeps up to 14 guests.

FloorOne (formerly a luxury day spa) includes 2 two-room suites, 1 full bath, 1 powder room, 1 spa room with extra shower and large jetted tub, sitting area with flat screen TV, a dining table seating 3, and kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, and wetbar.

FloorTwo has 2 bedrooms and includes a full kitchen, butlers pantry, and a Victorian 'parlor' room with a formal seating + dining area furnished with period pieces, and completed with an original hand painted ceiling. A touch of modern includes a flat screen TV.

Carriage House has a separate entry with indoor/outdoor pavilion for living space and separate romantic room with Double bed. This space uses full bathroom for FloorOne, which is only reserved within same group.

SDhouse is located in the long established neighborhood Park West, an area which also acquired the name 'Bankers Hill' because of its reputation as a home for the affluent.

Bankers Hill is one of San Diego's nicest upscale residential neighborhoods located west of Balboa Park and east of Little Italy. Bankers Hill is best known for some of the grandest homes in San Diego and the incredible hillside view that looks over downtown San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. Banker's Hill has some of the best examples of high end residential architecture that dates back to the late 1800's. Examples of Victorian, Craftsman, Revival, and Emerging Modern homes can be seen throughout the Bankers Hill area. We purchased this magnificent historic Victorian home in 2013 and have completed some minor cosmetic modifications to accommodate those looking for a unique vacation rental.

The home is currently under stewardship of the trustee of the Bertha Stroud Family Trust and was purchased not only to establish a legacy estate for the heirs of the trust, but to share this historic landmark with locals and visitors to San Diego. This property was chosen because, just like the namesake of the trust, it is eclectic, whimsical, and possesses a unconventional character that can best be described as eccentrically unique.
