a relaxing, lovely rental

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a stay at the Meadowood retreat with our adult children for spring break. The house is newly renovated, light and bright, stylishly decorated with very spacious rooms and large bathrooms. There is well-maintained landscaping with beautiful azaleas blooming when we were there. The owner is attentive and checked in several times. The living, dining, and kitchen are really appealing and lovely. There are two very large bedrooms upstairs, nice for couples, and two smaller ones downstairs that are great for kids. All the beds and linens are new and nice. The house is in a quiet, shady neighborhood, top of a hill, walking distance to Meadowood Resort, which we used several times. Charming St Helena is a 5 min. drive, and though we tried, we didn't get to half of the good restaurants. The house does look like its photos, except that there was no deck furniture due to the "rainy season". I hope the owner will put something waterproof out for people to be able to enjoy the deck, which is very attractive. There also need to be more dishes and cooking utensils and more light in the master bedroom. The rental is new, and it just needs a little fine tuning, but we really enjoyed it. I would go back and would recommend it to a friend once the deck and kitchen are completed. The house would work well for families with smaller children, but there is not a lot for them to do nearby except the resort. For our college-grad kids, sleeping late, winetasting, and exploring St Helena were perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Yes, we do bring the outdoor furniture into the house during the rainy season, but we bring it out in May. We have ordered another set of dishes so there are 16 place settings instead of 8 place settings. We do have plenty of utensils in the home for cooking (8 different wooden spoons, spatula, tongs, set of knives, knife sharpener, prep bowls, full set of pots and pans, paper towels, garlic press, measuring spoons, plenty of wine glasses, votives, clothes napkins, baking pans) so I would not agree that the kitchen is 'incomplete'. In fact, I would say it is fully stocked. A new lamp has been ordered for the master bedroom since this reviewer did state that she felt the room needed more light. Currently there are three lamps in the room, but we are switching out one of the lamps which will provide one brighter light source. All in all, I felt these were minor adjustments, but I do appreciate her feedback as we continue to make this a pleasant place for people to spend their vacations in the Napa Valley.

Peaceful Luxury

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented Meadowood Retreat as our home away from home during a long weekend celebration for my father in law's 70th birthday. We were a group of five adults and utilised all four bedrooms. The owner was extremely hospitable from our first email exchange through the end of our stay. They were fast to respond to any queries or needs. We found the house to be even more aesthetically pleasing in person than in the photos and everything was well organised for our arrival. There is tons of natural light, an open airy layout and well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The thought that has been put into the extra details of having waffle robes for each guest, hotel quality sheets and towels, shampoo and conditioner, tea lights etc gave you a feeling of staying in a tasteful luxury resort. With this rental, you can arrange guest passes at Meadowood Resort via the owners membership which is a huge bonus for anyone who wishes to use their beautiful facilities (golf, tennis, pool, gym...) without paying Meadowood Resort accommodation prices. We were hoping to rent bikes and ride to and from town/vineyards, at least once, but found the property to be much farther up a hill than we had realised and forfeited our bike plans. However, with a car, this property is perfectly situated for daily outings to vineyards, restaurants etc. Trips throughout the Napa, Yountville, St Helena area were no more than 25 minutes from the house and some great vineyards/restaurants are as little as five minutes away. If you are planning to use all four bedrooms, note that the 4th bedroom on the lower level requires you to step through the 3rd bedroom to reach it and they share a bathroom which is connected to the 3rd bathroom. Those sharing the lower level need to be close enough to be comfortable with this arrangement (i.e. sisters as was our case). As the first renters of this property and first time users of VRBO, we were truly delighted with our stay and have already started recommending to friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you Sarah for your review and for highlighting the situation down stairs and for explaining that the home is situated on the hillside. It does make it difficult to bike to town but the benefit is that the neighborhood has views of the valley and there are beautiful hiking trails surrounding the property. It is possible to rent bikes from Meadowood and bike to town from there, which is a flat bike ride. Thank you for your review!
