Fernhaven At Arch Cape: Where The Rainforest Meets The Sea

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,200 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Home Just Blocks From The Beach

Fernhaven is a warm and spacious vacation home tucked into the woods just three blocks from the beach at Arch Cape. Marvelous hikes and stunning beaches are just minutes away. With four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, living room, dining room, and comfy den with entertainment center, Fernhaven is perfect for family gatherings and group excursions with friends. Couples too find its cozy seclusion romantic.

Fernhaven’s two stories offer four bedrooms- but there’s also a convertible sofa bed for larger parties. Both bathrooms feature radiant floor heating. You’ll find it’s so nice to step out of the jacuzzi tub onto toasty-warm tile floors.

The kitchen is large, beautifully appointed, and stocked with utensils, pans, and dishes- everything you need for preparing gourmet meals. It’s equipped with new appliances including a dishwasher. Although our wooded lot keeps Fernhaven secluded and quiet, from the kitchen you can catch a glimpse of Castle Rock out there in the Pacific, through the trees.

The kitchen opens into the living room, separated by a bar with stools, in case you need more seating than the dining table can provide. The dining table itself seats from 6 to 10 people- there are plenty of extra chairs in the walk-in pantry, if you need them. The living room has a large sectional sofa, a piano, a stereo system, and a wood stove to make it extra cozy.

Fernhaven's entertainment center includes a large flatscreen, DVD player, and Roku player. We do not subscribe to cable or satellite at this time. The DVD collection there is quite modest, so bring some movies if you think you might want to snuggle up with one some evening! Other amenities include Wi-fi, an outdoor charcoal grill, and a washer/dryer.

It’s very easy and quite tempting to spend all of your time inside cozy Fernhaven, cooking with friends and sipping wine by the fire, but there’s a beautiful world just outside! Hug Point, one of the most magical and beautiful beaches on the west coast is just a quick jaunt away, as is Neahkahnie Mountain, whose 1,680’ elevation will reward you with spectacular views, if you make the climb. Experienced mushroom hunters will be delighted to explore after the rains, as you can barely follow a trail without stumbling on a delicious score. Or you can just walk a few steps to the beach at Arch Cape, build a fire, and watch the sunset.

There are dozens of excellent hikes in the area, and the northern Oregon coast likewise offers too many beautiful beaches to list here. As hard as it will be to leave lovely Fernhaven to explore, you’ll be rewarded with lush coastal rainforests and magical Oregon beaches when you do. And after such adventures, there’s no better place to come home to! We look forward to hosting you here.

GETTING TO THE BEACH FROM FERNHAVEN: It is a short walk to the beach at Arch Cape, thanks to a lovely little access staircase between two beachfront houses. It may be hard to see from Google Maps since it's under a plant-covered archway, but thanks to those stairs it is a pretty straight shot from Fernhaven to the beach. Crossing 101 is safe- just practice common sense like looking both ways and leashing your pets. The traffic on this stretch of road is rather infrequent and it's very easy to access the beach from our wooded lot. It's exactly 0.23 miles from the front door to the sand, under a quarter of a mile.

Why Zoli Lundy chose Arch Cape

Fernhaven was first dreamt of nearly 40 years ago when architect Tod Lundy purchased the wooded lot in quiet Arch Cape. The dream was realized in 2009, when Tod and his two sons, Zoli and Justin, built Fernhaven together. They co-manage the house from Astoria, Oakland, and Portland respectively, and love to visit each other at Fernhaven with their extended family.

Tod was first attracted to this little piece of land because of the giant nurse log that the house is set behind. The wooded lot sets a secluded, quiet mood even though it’s just minutes from shopping, dining, spas, and beaches.

Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this home and location was perfect! Owner was great to work with. Most well-stocked kitchen we’ve experienced in many years of staying on the coast without a doubt, beautiful architecture and art throughout, and the rainforest setting was incredible. Just a great vibe overall!

Arch Cape is such a perfect location...isolated but so close to incredible hiking tails, the walk to the beach is easy even with crossing 101, the otherworldly Hug Point so close, and Cannon Beach and Manzanita are just a few minutes drive if you need a grocery store run or want to do some shopping. Word to the wise: Fresh Foods in Cannon Beach is awesome and also has a recycling receptacle, which is a bonus since Arch Cape doesn’t have recycling bins. For crabbing, Kelly’s Brighton Marina in Rockaway Beach is the spot to go to....we went to Wheeler Marina first and it was a disasterous waste of money and an afternoon. Close by, Oswald West State Park is gorgeous and the Cape Falcon trail is a must see...easy walk and the beach there is incredibly beautiful.

All in all, a wonderful stay...wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and again!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the feedback-- we really appreciate it. I am forwarding your review to our beloved housekeeper, who I am sure will be terribly embarrassed by it and will not allow this oversight again! Cheers, Zoli

Big house nestled in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This spacious house is completely surrounded by a beautiful rainforest and is just a short walk through the woods to the Arch Cape beach. Inside, the house is well stocked. Our large family found everything we needed for cooking and relaxing after a day of exploring, hiking and shopping. There are many places we enjoyed visiting nearby, including the seaside town of Cannon Beach, Astoria's Maritime Museum, the Lewis and Clark State Park and Tillamook Cheese Factory. The highlight of course was sitting around a bonfire in the evening on the beach. Great house and a great location.

Quiet, private and well appointed

  • 5 of 5

What a great house - love the architecture and layout. We travelled with our 2 teenage daughters and there was plenty of room with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Only wish we had brought the dogs along too! Everything you need is here from a well stocked kitchen to shampoo and conditioner. Although it was cold and rainy several days of our stay, it's a cozy home and the wood stove heated the whole place up. My daughters took over the second floor which had two bedrooms, a loft, and a really neat bathroom with a jacuzzi tub which they both enjoyed. There's no cable or satellite tv but we had no problem logging into our amazon prime for movies, etc. Enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and looking out that one window that perfectly frames the rock emerging from the ocean. It is a very short, pleasant walk to the beach across the street. You have to cross the pacific highway but it is just a two lane road - some cars really zip by fast but there are plenty of breaks in the traffic to cross safely. Love the small beach community across the street. The beach in Arch Cape is just amazing! Loved walking the length of the beach and down to hug point. There was plenty of wood for the wood stove and the fire pit outside - we did use the fire pit a couple times and even roasted marshmallows. My husband also enjoyed grilling fresh fish on the charcoal grill. There is no shopping or restaurants in Arch Cape so you have to either drive south to Manzanita or north to Cannon Beach or Seaside for restaurants and groceries. Cannon Beach can get crowded and congested so it was wonderful to go back to Arch Cape and enjoy the serene quiet. We also really enjoyed watching the goldfish in the rain catch basin. A great house if you plan to just chill and get away from it all!

Hiking here offers spectacular ocean views, plenty of lush flora, and occasional treasure troves for experienced mushroom hunters. The beaches are some of the most beautiful on the west coast. It's the perfect destination for those that love the outdoors, and also love a warm, beautiful place to come home to.
