About Barbara Warner
I have lived in LIncoln County for 47 years and raised my family here. I love the beauty of this area and the life style… enjoying nature, family, and good friends. I've always wanted to be on the water, and this house is literally ' on the water'. My husband and I bought this house to enjoy with our kids and grandkids , and to be able to share this wonderful experience with you.
Barbara Warner purchased this House in 2013
Why Barbara Warner chose Newcastle
There is no other property that has the sort of magical quality of this home. It is a unique, historical building that couldn't be built today. With it's high ceilings and windows opening to the water on three sides, it really is like floating. Having the lake and all the activity around you is really an amazing experience.
What makes this House unique
I knew I wanted this house the minute I walked in and looked down the hall through the huge glass doors directly to the lake! Amazing view! You can let the kids play at the shallow beach, while the bigger kids jump into the deeper water on the other side of the bridge, lounge on the dock or canoe or kayak down the lake. Because I've lived in the are for 45 years, I can direct you to some of the little know spots that only the locals know. You can enjoy the lake one day and spend the next by the ocean, all minutes away. There is great fishing right off the dock, or deep sea fishing in nearby Boothbay Harbor.

An incredible place to stay - fully recommended
We had a fantastic time at the house.
We were a group of two families - four adults and five children - and stayed for 5 nights in August 2017. The property is utterly unique - a converted mill that sits on a beautiful lake in a lovely part of Maine - and is stunning both inside and out. As others have noted, two of the three downstairs bedrooms have some interior walls that don't fully reach the ceiling (because of the nature of the conversion), but we had no problems with privacy and the most of the children slept upstairs.
Barbara and Charlie were brilliant hosts - they couldn't do enough for us but were only ever there when we needed them and didn't impose at all. They were welcoming, unfussy (no problems at all with booking, deposit etc), land back (our kids aren't always quiet!) and very knowledgeable about the local area.
The house is brilliantly equipped - well designed and spacious, with Netflix on the TV, books, good cooking facilities and lots of games supplied for kids. On top of that, there are kayaks to use (we went out every day), fishing equipment, beach games and Charlie even took some of the kids out on his boat and rubber ring. We spent most days on the lake - swimming, kayaking and playing on the beach - or exploring the local area - the towns of Damariscotta, Wiscasset and Boothbay are all very nice. When we weren't, we could be found marvelling at the stunning view across the lake...! (I have since learned that this part of Maine is overlooked for other parts of the state, but we thought it was beautiful.)
We had an excellent stay - it was probably the highlight of our US trip - and I would entirely recommend it to other travellers.
We stayed here in August for our family reunion in Damariscotta. This house was more beautiful than we imagined. The pictures don't show how spacious, open, bright, and well appointed it is. The owners thought of everything for our comfort. But the best part was the water. We kayaked, swam and even jumped off the little bridge that was next to the house. My brother fished right on the bank and off the deck. We are so happy we stayed here. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic house on the Lake.
Spectacular view with all the necessary comfort and more. The house is very well furnished with everything in good order. Breath taking view over the lake. Kitchen has everything you need, and more. Spacious set-up with a large living area. Owners will welcome you and ensure you are not missing anything. They reside on the lower floor while we occupied the second floor. Just good comments about this place. I would rent it again.
Hidden Gem on the water
Highly recommend if you have a family looking for the comforts of home in a beautiful lakefront location. The owners think of everything and provide all of the essentials so you can arrive worry free. We shared the home with another family and the kids had a blast. There are kayaks, fishing poles, swim gear for the kids and a beautiful dock for the adults to relax and enjoy the view. There is also a grocery store close by, hiking trails and a beautiful lighthouse. We will be back for sure! Thank you Charlie and Barbara.
We so enjoyed our visit! The property could not have been any closer to the water. The house was wonderfully open and airy and absolutely spotless. The owners live right on the property on the first floor and were always available. They went out of their way to make sure that we were well looked after.
Like staying on a houseboat.
This rental property is wonderful. I have so many terrific things to say about it. From the moment I booked, Barbara (rental owner) was totally available for questions via text, phone or email and always got back to me in a timely fashion. I rented this house as a surprise 5 day get away for my husband's 70th birthday. Our one son, wife and 19 month old and other son and girlfriend also came for the surprise. It was the perfect place for our whole family. Views are spectacular, space is kid and adult friendly, spacious, and conveniently located. I don't think the pictures do it justice. Also not pictured is the third floor which is where our granddaughter stayed. It is a playroom with three little rooms off of it, each with a twin bed. It is percent for young kids. The place is so well equipped.....games, fully stocked kitchen, beach towels, tons of kids toys, bath products, washer/dryer, huge TV, grill, beach chairs, kayaks, canoe, fishing gear, inflatable water tubes and such. The beds are super comfortable and the house was super clean. The little sand beach was the perfect, safe spot for me to hang out with my granddaughter. I could go on and on.
Charlie and Barbara are very friendly and accommodating and will help to make your stay more enjoyable any way they can. They live on the first floor of this rental but they were not intrusive. I would recommend this property to anyone, and so would everyone in my family. They have already said we should rent the same place every year - and for at least a week. It also did t hurt that we had beautiful weather But having said that, there are a couple of drawbacks that reviewers have already mentioned - the swimming areas on either side of the house can often times be quite noisey with young kids and families. But things quiet down after sundown. The master bedroom and one other guest room do not have walls going all the way to the ceiling. So everything can be heard. You can see what I mean in a couple of the pictures of the interior.
Lake Damarisotta and the surrounding areas are beautiful and can thoroughly be enjoyed from this fabulous rental property.
The house is ideally located on Damariscotta Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Maine, in one of the most interesting areas on the Eastern coast of the US. If you ever decide to leave the tranquil beauty of the property, there are many opportunities for recreation and culture.
The greatest attraction is the lake that you will literally be on, Damariscotta Lake. It's a pristine 13 mile lake with great fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities. Listen to the loons otherworldly song as the dappled sunlight is reflected onto the 12' ceiling above you.
You might even find that a loon pops up beside you when you are out in the kayaks or canoe we provide at no extra charge.
The twin villages of Damariscotta/Newcastle are home to many wonderful restaurants and shops. There is a large artists community, and the downtown is filled with many unique items that can't be found anywhere else. The craftsmanship extends to the restaurants and cafes where you'll find amazing food served in beautiful settings.
Lobsters, clams, mussels, fresh from the ocean to your table.
The Damariscotta area is known for it's aquaculture.
A short drive will get you to classic Maine locations like: the Pemaquid Peninsula, which has a picturesque lighthouse on the rugged coast and a large sandy beach perfect for the kids; the Boothbay Peninsula, which has a bustling harbor, a 18-hole golf course and amazing botanical gardens; Wiscassett, which is filled with many quaint shops and extremely well preserved traditional homes. With-in 45 minutes you have: the beautiful villages of Camden and Rockport; Portland, the cultural hub of Maine; Freeport with it's many shopping outlets (and LL Bean); and Bath with it's Maine Maritime Museum.
There are many businesses set up to provide access to the ocean and one of our favorites is a cruise on the Hardy Boat to Monhegan Island. Grab a drink and a lobster at Shaw's Wharf while you wait for your boat to depart. Once on the Island, walk the loop trail around the island and keep your eyes open for the fairy houses as you come back into the village. A new micro-brewery and multiple artists studios can keep you occupied until the boat departs for the mainland.
Another great boat trip is Chip's cruise down the Damariscotta River, which departs out of Schooner Landing. Lounge on an old riverboat while rubbing elbows with some of the most entertaining characters you're likely to meet.
The area has fun events throughout the year. Some of the must sees are: the Pirate Rendezvous (late-June); Round Pond Parade (4th of July); Olde Bristol Days and Lobster Boat Races (Mid-August); Pemaquid Oyster Festival (late September); Pumpkin Festival and Pumpkin Boat Races ( Columbus Day weekend). There are festivals up and down the coast just about every weekend during the summer and fall, and you're sure to find something that interests you.
