Not only is the skiing right out the door, there is some of the best cross country skiing in NW Montana. The cross country skiing offers over 20 km of groomed track and is dog and snow shoeing friendly. A great way to start or end your day, or for relaxing for a day off the slopes. Many of these trails double as mountain biking or running trails in the summer.
In the summer, the recreation opportunities expand every year. Besides ample mountain biking (the owner's favorite) the ski lift is open to the summit house for great views, food, and drinks. You can ride up and hike down, or ride or hike both ways. There is a growing network of Zipline rides, an Alpine slide, an Aerial Adventure Park and more.

Besides being at the foot of the Big Mountain with all its access to the skiing both alpine and cross country, it is also well positioned to take advantage of all the summer activities now offered at the resort. We are only 35 miles from Glacier National Park, 30 miles from the north end of Flathead Lake, 6 miles to Whitefish Lake and more. We are truly at the hub of all the outdoor activities one could ever want.
There is great shopping, museums and other interests in Whitefish, Kalispell, Bigfork and the surrounding valley.
As avid skiers, we find the Big Mountain to be a great resort for all levels of skiers and ages. There is enough for the advanced, but it is not intimidating for a beginner or intermediate. There are ample opportunities for backcountry skiing right off the resort, and thousands of acres more in the five mountain ranges within 2 hours of Whitefish. Feel free to call or email about some more specific information in this regard.
Glacier National Park is so close by and the views of it are nothing short of outstanding from the summit of the resort. It is also a very short drive to the park, and is something well worthwhile year round.
In the summer we are a growing recreational area, with expanding trails for mountain biking (our favorite), running, hiking or walks both small and large for all levels. The surrounding mountain ranges offer ample opportunity for various adventures. I cannot name a favorite, as there are so many.
And of course there is our access to water. Besides the majestic Flathead and Whitefish Lakes, there are numerous other lakes to explore, but three forks of the Flathead River that are each in part or in whole, Wild and Scenic rivers. And there are more rivers to explore than that.
And while we are all about the outdoors, there is more to the Flathead Valley then that. Check out what seems like big city shopping right here in Kalispell. Or just come into Whitefish for some great local shopping in a super friendly and casual environment. There are several breweries in the valley and now at least 3 distilleries to make a visit to. Yes, the wild west still exists here in Montana.
Year Purchased: 2013
About the owner: This is us at the summit of the Big Mountain, in Whitefish, Montana. We are avid skiers, both resort and backcountry. We both love to ski cross country as well. In the summer we love mountain biking, hiking, fishing, huckleberry picking (the Big Mountain is famous for great huckleberries) and most things outdoors, of which there are endless possibilities. We also enjoy good food and Whitefish and the resort have large and growing number of fine eating establishments to choose from. My wife loves to shop, and Whitefish and Kalispell (the county seat) offer ample amounts of shopping that can fill any day.
Why the Owner Chose Whitefish, MT, USA:
This property came to us as an investment in a place we already live in and love. But this property allows us to be at the heart of the action in both winter and summer. NW Montana is incredibly special in so many ways and a place where many a people have come to visit and ended up staying, sometimes sacrificing career for lifestyle. To be able to walk out of your door to ski, visit friends at the local watering holes, catch the variety of entertainment at the resort, is quite nice compared to driving up from town. Although a short drive from town, to wake up and go is a convenience and comfort hard to find.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Both my wife and I love to ski, and to be able to do it right from your front door is special. And although everything at the ski/summer resort is within easy walking distance, our home on the hill is remarkably quiet and peaceful. We liked the fact that it is three bedrooms, which is nice for families, friends and guests. We are dog lovers and although there is a leash law at the resort, it is still a great place for dogs. The groomed cross country trails allow them ample room to run off leash. You can also access these winter trails in the summer to take yourself and/or your canine friends for walks or bike rides.
