*NOTE: Please call the owner before submitting a reservation request: 208-360-7224

The Gathering Place Family Lodge is a wonderful cabin in the Macks Inn area of Island Park, just 23 miles from Yellowstone. This cabin has six themed bedrooms, five bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a large family room and a living room, children's bunkroom, satellite big screen HDTV, VCR, DVD, stereo, hot tub, pool table, piano, children's game room with Wii and flat screen TV, and all your bedding and kitchen needs. A large mudroom with plenty of hooks and cubbies will store all your gear neatly. Will sleep 25 people in beds and another 6 with the sofa bed and futon.

Outside are 2 decks with outdoor furniture for the summer, a half-court basketball court, volleyball, covered hot tub, lawn area, and fire pit, all on 1.5 acres, with 2 driveways for parking convenience.

The main entry to the cabin is on the lower level, with a large mudroom full of hooks, cubbies and benches for storing gear, ice chests, etc. There is one bedroom -- The Autumn Room -- located on this level, with a queen bed, a crib, and a TV/VHS player (no cable in this room). Across from the bedroom is a full bath. Also located on this level are a billiard room and a children's game room. The game room has a large wall-mounted flat-screen TV, DVD/VHS player, Wii and Nintendo. No cable provided on this TV, but Netflix is hooked up through the Wii. The laundry is also located in this room, with 2 washers and 2 dryers.

The second level of the home is the main level. A cozy living room with leather furniture and gas fireplace provide a quiet escape for adults. The kitchen/dining are on this level. The kitchen is well equipped, with 2 coffee pots, 2 large crock pots, 2 electric griddles, a large electric roaster, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, a large rice cooker, numerous large stock pots and fryer pans as well as many large Pyrex dishes, cookie sheets and muffin pans. The kitchen has 2 refrigerators and a walk-in pantry. Basic spices are always kept on hand, and all dishes are provided. We even have Christmas china! Full-disclosure note: The dining area is small for as many guests as the cabin holds. There are solutions for this, however: The main table will seat 12, the game table upstairs seats 6, and there are 2 banquet tables with chairs that can be set up in the living room and kitchen to seat the others during winter months or cold/stormy weather. During summer, there is outdoor seating at patio tables for 26, and the banquet tables can be taken outside for serving buffet-style. This has worked just fine for our own family.

Down the hall from the kitchen is the smallest of the bedrooms, The Wolf Room, with one queen bed. This is usually where Grandma and Grandpa sleep. It is directly across the hall from a full bath. Next is the children's bunkroom, 'The Fishing Room', with 3 twin/full bunks and a private 3/4 bath for the kiddos. This room sleeps 9 cousins, and if anyone gets scared in the middle of the night, Grandma and Grandpa are just down the hall :)

The upper level of the home is the main attraction, with The Gathering Room as the feature. This beautiful room has a large leather sectional, leather club chair and ottoman, large flat-screen HDTV with Dish Network, DVD/VHS player, a Karaoke machine, guitar, piano, and game table. This is THE room for family sing-alongs and talent shows! 3 themed bedrooms on this level each have 2 queen beds. The Deer Room has it's own private 3/4 bath. The Bear Room is very unique and you just may have to draw straws to see who gets this one! The Moose Room is the smallest of the 3 bedrooms, but equally as charming as the others. The top level also has another 3/4 bath.

In winter you will appreciate a few things about this cabin. The cabin was built with severe weather in mind, and is not at all drafty, due to expandable foam insulation in the walls. The cabin stays very warm, and we have often opened windows in the dead of winter! Since adding a wall heater in the basement and adding the mudroom, even the basement stays quite warm. You will also appreciate the location for snowmobiling: sled right from the cabin to the trail system, which starts just a block away. Easy access to the famous 'Snow Ghosts' of Two Top!

In the summer you will appreciate having 1.5 acres to yourselves, the outdoor activities to entertain the kids, the walk to the river for fishing and wildlife viewing, ATV-ing right from the cabin, and the proximity to the Big Springs area to start your river float. Within 1/2 mile are 2 churches, a gas station, Macks Inn Playhouse Dinner Theatre, and Macks Inn Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor.

Any season you will appreciate not having to drive distances on dirt roads to get to the cabin (you do have to drive about 20 feet on dirt to the main driveway). Seclusion is another plus. The entire block contains only 3 cabins. You will also appreciate the short distance to Yellowstone...just 23 miles away.

The Gathering Place family lodge is close to Big Springs, Johnny Sack Cabin, Henry's Lake, Henry's Fork of the Snake River, Island Park Reservoir, Quake Lake, Hebgen Lake, West Yellowstone, Harriman State Park, and Yellowstone National Park. There's so much to do in Island Park, Idaho, and The Gathering Place is the place to stay!

If this cabin isn't available, please call... we have a couple other on the lake and one in the golf village. If you need more space, there is also a cabin across the street from The Gathering Place that sleeps for details!

About Debbie

We have a large family and love getting all together. We live far away from each other, from North Carolina to California and even Taiwan, and treasure the times we can reunite and make memories. It's especially fun for the cousins -- there are a lot of them! We all love the outdoors and love adventure!

Debbie purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Debbie chose Idaho

We came to Island Park for a family reunion without knowing much about the location. We fell in love immediately, and started looking for a large cabin to buy that would accomodate our group. Soon, we had turned a lovely home into a wonderful 'cabin', with themed bedrooms and lots of wildlife, and knew we wanted to share our cabin with others. Island Park has so much to do, and is so close to the west entrance to Yellowstone, that we could never run out of activities in a whole lifetime! We love walking the short distance to Macks Inn Dinner Theatre, or to the dock on the river to watch a sunset or spot moose. This whole area is just magical to us!

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin just feels cozy, with wildlife decor and cozy spaces. One great thing about our cabin is that when the children are downstairs in any of the three play rooms, the adults can be upstairs visiting and we don't even hear the kids! The cousins get to be loud together, and we older siblings get to catch up undisturbed! Of course, we break up the cousins' fun to do many fabulous activities in the area, from floating the river, to waterskiing on the lake, fishing, trips to Yellowstone, hiking, and of course riding the trails! That's another great thing about our cabin -- you can ride right from the cabin to our favorite snowmobile trail -- Two Top and the 'Snow Ghosts', or continue on into Yellowstone. In the summer, the large 1.5 acre lot, with firepit, basketball court, lawn area, 2 decks and coverd hot tub make a great place to relax after busy days in Yellowstone or at the lake.

Great place for Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

By staying at the Gathering Place we were able to host all of our children and their families plus a great Grandma, and Aunt and Uncle for Christmas. We had 12 grandchildren and 13 adults and the house was laid out perfectly for us all. From the floor plan to the amenities it was perfect! I would recommend this place for any large families wishing to make wonderful memories!

We found the house large enough to accommodate our group but the room sizes were a little miss leading. We slept in the basement which was not heated!!! Space heaters used in the bedroom and bathroom. I don't think the house is really set up for a large group of snowmobilers especially if you bring your own sleds. Parking trailers and trucks were a challenge. Guests are also asked to take their garbage with them or to the landfill OR pay to have the garbage taken away which we did. I believe the landfill is quite a drive from the house. The microwave worked half the time and the one coffee maker didn't work all that great and could really use a second coffee pot with so many people in the house.

Owner's Response: We very much appreciate mention of such items so we can make our cabin even more enjoyable for the future. We also encourage guests to call us during their stay if there is anything they are having trouble with, such as the microwave, heaters, and coffee pots, so that we can get items such as this fixed during their stay. We were unaware the microwave was not working and will fix that asap, as well as buy more coffee pots and heaters. The basement is not heated with wall heaters...just space heaters...but we have found for our families that they are adequate when left running. However, we will look into installing wall heaters there...we don't want our guests to be cold! The Gathering Place actually has more parking than most cabins its size, with 2 separate parking areas. Guests, if you ever need additional parking, please call us and we will help you find parking nearby. I agree with the reviewer...the trash situation is not good in Island Park, but having guests take trash to the landfill is standard for the cabins here since there is no one providing trash service in the town. Future guests: please call if something happens during your stay. People love our cabin as much as we do and it is disappointing to us both if something goes wrong. We want your stay to be great!

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gathering place. Everyone was very accommodating to our needs an willing to work with as far as check in time. We did not have any problems with the cabin and felt like it was in very good condition. We did need any supplies, everything was available and in good working order. We had a large group and there was plenty of room.

I really appreciated the fast response when ever I emailed with a question the week before we went. They were very helpful in letting us know what we were asking.

We would definately stay ther again.

The house was absolutely fantastic, it was perfect for our family, couldn.t have been better....thank you so much...we loved the area, I did not realize we were so close to Yellowstone, but that was our own fault. The men and boys especially loved the pool table, the girls and children the hot tub. The basketball hoop was great. We really like Johnny Sack's cabin and area. We would definitely recommend this property to other's, in fact we have. We would also stay there again. Island Park Lodging was also great.

Fun, large cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at The Gathering Place. Island Park is beautiful. Both ATVing and horseback riding were very close to the cabin. We renting ATV's for a full day and there were PLENTY of trails nearby.

The cabin was great. We had 17 family members ranging from 9 months to 60. There was something for everyone. The lay out of the cabin was great. The playroom was downstairs and even when the kids were being loud, you couldn't hear them upstairs!

The large TV is on the top floor, so when the guys were up there playing video games or watching football (BYU-UTAH game!! Go Utes!) you couldn't hear anything on the main floor. Even with 17 of us in the house we never felt crowed!

The second fridge/freezer was a lifesaver! The grounds outside were fun. Lots of tables/chairs to enjoy nature and we had a good time making smores in the firepit and a friendly game of basketball made for lots of fun when we got home from sightseeing.

I heard a few times throughout the week that the cabin was even better then they expected!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!
