The Gathering Place Family Lodge is a wonderful cabin in the Macks Inn area of Island Park, just 23 miles from Yellowstone. This cabin has six themed bedrooms, five bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a large family room and a living room, children's bunkroom, satellite big screen HDTV, VCR, DVD, stereo, hot tub, pool table, piano, children's game room with Wii and flat screen TV, and all your bedding and kitchen needs. A large mudroom with plenty of hooks and cubbies will store all your gear neatly. Will sleep 25 people in beds and another 6 with the sofa bed and futon.
Outside are 2 decks with outdoor furniture for the summer, a half-court basketball court, volleyball, covered hot tub, lawn area, and fire pit, all on 1.5 acres, with 2 driveways for parking convenience.
The main entry to the cabin is on the lower level, with a large mudroom full of hooks, cubbies and benches for storing gear, ice chests, etc. There is one bedroom -- The Autumn Room -- located on this level, with a queen bed, a crib, and a TV/VHS player (no cable in this room). Across from the bedroom is a full bath. Also located on this level are a billiard room and a children's game room. The game room has a large wall-mounted flat-screen TV, DVD/VHS player, Wii and Nintendo. No cable provided on this TV, but Netflix is hooked up through the Wii. The laundry is also located in this room, with 2 washers and 2 dryers.
The second level of the home is the main level. A cozy living room with leather furniture and gas fireplace provide a quiet escape for adults. The kitchen/dining are on this level. The kitchen is well equipped, with 2 coffee pots, 2 large crock pots, 2 electric griddles, a large electric roaster, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, a large rice cooker, numerous large stock pots and fryer pans as well as many large Pyrex dishes, cookie sheets and muffin pans. The kitchen has 2 refrigerators and a walk-in pantry. Basic spices are always kept on hand, and all dishes are provided. We even have Christmas china! Full-disclosure note: The dining area is small for as many guests as the cabin holds. There are solutions for this, however: The main table will seat 12, the game table upstairs seats 6, and there are 2 banquet tables with chairs that can be set up in the living room and kitchen to seat the others during winter months or cold/stormy weather. During summer, there is outdoor seating at patio tables for 26, and the banquet tables can be taken outside for serving buffet-style. This has worked just fine for our own family.
Down the hall from the kitchen is the smallest of the bedrooms, The Wolf Room, with one queen bed. This is usually where Grandma and Grandpa sleep. It is directly across the hall from a full bath. Next is the children's bunkroom, 'The Fishing Room', with 3 twin/full bunks and a private 3/4 bath for the kiddos. This room sleeps 9 cousins, and if anyone gets scared in the middle of the night, Grandma and Grandpa are just down the hall :)
The upper level of the home is the main attraction, with The Gathering Room as the feature. This beautiful room has a large leather sectional, leather club chair and ottoman, large flat-screen HDTV with Dish Network, DVD/VHS player, a Karaoke machine, guitar, piano, and game table. This is THE room for family sing-alongs and talent shows! 3 themed bedrooms on this level each have 2 queen beds. The Deer Room has it's own private 3/4 bath. The Bear Room is very unique and you just may have to draw straws to see who gets this one! The Moose Room is the smallest of the 3 bedrooms, but equally as charming as the others. The top level also has another 3/4 bath.
In winter you will appreciate a few things about this cabin. The cabin was built with severe weather in mind, and is not at all drafty, due to expandable foam insulation in the walls. The cabin stays very warm, and we have often opened windows in the dead of winter! Since adding a wall heater in the basement and adding the mudroom, even the basement stays quite warm. You will also appreciate the location for snowmobiling: sled right from the cabin to the trail system, which starts just a block away. Easy access to the famous 'Snow Ghosts' of Two Top!
In the summer you will appreciate having 1.5 acres to yourselves, the outdoor activities to entertain the kids, the walk to the river for fishing and wildlife viewing, ATV-ing right from the cabin, and the proximity to the Big Springs area to start your river float. Within 1/2 mile are 2 churches, a gas station, Macks Inn Playhouse Dinner Theatre, and Macks Inn Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor.
Any season you will appreciate not having to drive distances on dirt roads to get to the cabin (you do have to drive about 20 feet on dirt to the main driveway). Seclusion is another plus. The entire block contains only 3 cabins. You will also appreciate the short distance to Yellowstone...just 23 miles away.
The Gathering Place family lodge is close to Big Springs, Johnny Sack Cabin, Henry's Lake, Henry's Fork of the Snake River, Island Park Reservoir, Quake Lake, Hebgen Lake, West Yellowstone, Harriman State Park, and Yellowstone National Park. There's so much to do in Island Park, Idaho, and The Gathering Place is the place to stay!
If you need more room, there is a cabin across the street from The Gathering Place, VRBO #710119, that sleeps 18.
