The Light House is a beautiful family home which has just been completely refurbished and enlarged. We have decorated it in a relaxed New England style with comfortable linen-covered sofas and French-style tables and chairs mixed with decorative accents from our travels.
All furniture, fittings and equipment are new. Amenities include: central AC, hi-speed broadband and wi-fi, satellite/internet TV with DVD, Weber gas grill, comfortable outdoor furniture on both upper deck and the very spacious lower porch, sun room with 15' day bed, beach towels and chairs, outdoor shower, wood-fired oven in garden.
Unusually, the open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room are all on the upper floor with incredible amounts of light and open-sky views across the island. The attractive garden has also been freshly re-designed and re-planted. The house sleeps 8 comfortably in four bedrooms – a master bedroom with ensuite bath and dressing area on the second floor, two doubles that share a large shower room, and a large twin-bed room with ensuite shower and sauna – but this can extend to 10 if the sofabed in the twin room is used and an extra roll-out bed is also available.
The property is on Burnell Street in Siaconset village, the photogenic enclave on the east end of Nantucket island with its famous Sankaty Lighthouse. ‘Sconset has some of the most attractive architecture on the island and a true ‘village’ feel, with everything in easy walking distance. There is a great General Store supplying all food needs, a small wine and gift store, Claudette's sandwich shop and three good restaurants serving food all day (The Chanticleer, The Summer House and The Sconset Café). It is a completely safe environment for all ages and even young children happily bike around the village by themselves. The old Casino tennis club in the middle of ‘Sconset welcomes guests at certain times of the day and shows the latest films 3 nights a week. There is a beach within a few hundred yards with a lifeguard and great walks all around, particularly the famous cliff-top Bluff Walk, which passes along the front of many fascinating houses.
It is only a 10-minute drive to Nantucket Town (7 miles down the famous Milestone Road) where there is excellent shopping, and numerous fabulous restaurants and entertainment opportunities, including a great theatre, cinema and museums. There is also a shuttle bus service running every 15 minutes. An easy bike path also provides a direct route to Town – bikes can easily be hired and be ready and waiting for you at the house.
Nantucket Town gets busy in high summer but ‘Sconset sets its own more relaxed pace of life, centred around bikes and beaches. You can get to all the most popular beaches in a normal car but a 4x4 is useful for venturing into the Moors (the wilder central part of the island) and for expeditions to places like Great Point lighthouse. If you are into fishing there are all kinds available, from surf-casting to deep-sea, big game day trips, as well as incredible whale-watching. There are plenty of experienced charter boats but sail, motor boats and kayaks can also be rented by the day. There are several golf courses including two in ‘Sconset itself.
There really is something for everyone.

We are a British family based in Scotland who have been coming to Nantucket for 25 years – and finally we got our own place!
James purchased this House in 2010
Why James chose Siasconset
The house was perfect for us and we fell in love with the open-plan, top floor layout, with its great natural light. We love the upper deck and use it all the time for eating, grilling, sunbathing, and having drinks with friends as the sun sets across the island. The property is about 25 years old so is in good shape but it needed updating. We gave it a complete overhaul and added the master bedroom suite. Everything in it has been carefully chosen to make staying there a real pleasure, always with comfort and style in mind.
What makes this House unique
Our home is in a very quiet spot on the edge of the village, with great second-floor views out across the island. It is also in a slightly elevated position which means that there are always cooling breezes when it gets hot – in fact we never need to use the available AC! We love our garden and there are nice little touches such as a hammock to swing in and – if you feel the urge – even a small wood-fired brick oven in the garden! It is a short walk or quick bike ride into the heart of the village with its great old-style General Store, wine store, sandwich deli and Post Office, and the village beach (with a Lifeguard) is just beyond.

Ideal home in Sconset
We rented over the July 4th holiday. This home was beyond our expectations and we wish we could have stayed for at least another week. It's obvious that the owners paid attention to detail. Every room is tastefully decorated and simply beautiful. The kitchen is well prepared and there is a high quality grill on the deck. The home has a bright and airy feel throughout. There's a huge front porch overlooking an exquisite garden. You'll want to sit there and read for hours. Plenty of deck space with a peaceful view of the surrounding greenery and sunset. The owners were delightful to work with. If you're looking for a property that encourages fun, peace and relaxation, this spot is for you. We strongly recommend this beautiful house and its perfect location.
Thanks for a lovely review - you were great guests!
Delightful Stay in Sconset
This Sconset home has a unique floor plan - all of the living space is on the second floor with windows all the way around and a nice deck. It is clean, open, light, and delightfully breezy in summer. The house is extremely well-appointed and the owners were a joy to work with. Would recommend without hesitation.
Lovely Sconset Home
Our family occupied this home during the back half of August and had a fabulous experience. It was clean, sufficiently large for a family of 5, had updated amenities and everything else one can reasonably need. The location is wonderful for those looking for a Sconset rental - walking distance to Sconset market, tennis courts and the beach, very quiet streets nearby for the kids to play on, etc. Would gladly rent again. Also, the owners are very responsive and pleasant. Recommend.
Siasconset is known as the most attractive village on Nantucket. It is a wonderful location for families.
