Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 7

Take the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway east from Portland for about an hour and you'll arrive at this warm and cozy Rhododendron vacation cabin in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Right near The Courses (Oregon's first golf resort) in Welches and the Zigzag River, this cabin is also within 20 minutes of Mt. Hood Meadows, Mt. Hood Skibowl, and Timberline Lodge for the best skiing Oregon has to offer. Best of all, year-round you'll have your own private hot tub for relaxing and soaking under the stars.

Perfect for a ski getaway with friends or family, as well as a weekend full of golfing and hiking, this fully equipped cabin boasts gleaming hardwood floors, a brand new kitchen, and updated bathrooms. Step inside and you be surrounded in warm colors and a shabby-chic aesthetic. Relax on the overstuffed sofa or one of the easy chairs for an evening in front of a roaring fire. The gas fireplace is a focal point for this room, but don't worry -- there's also a wall-mounted flat-screen TV with cable to vie for your attention.

To the side of the living room, there's a small bistro table - perfect for a game of cards or setting up your laptop to use the WiFi and check email. And out the back door and just off the deck, the hot tub is waiting for you after a long day on the ski slopes or hiking trails. On the deck, you'll also have use of a gas grill - just pick up some chicken thighs, rosemary, garlic, and olive oil from the local grocery store, and come back to your cabin for an outdoor feast. Afterwards, roast marshmallows and make s'mores at the outdoor fire pit.

The open dining room includes a gorgeous old-growth wood table and handmade wood benches. Here you can set a beautiful table - whether it's for a special occasion meal, or just a breakfast of blueberry pancakes and bacon.

The light and bright kitchen is well-stocked with major appliances like a dishwasher, stovetop/oven, refrigerator, and microwave, as well as gadgets like a coffee maker, tea kettle, blender, and slow cooker. Wake up to slow cooked steel cut oats in the morning or make a batch of hearty black bean and cumin soup during the day.

Upstairs, you'll find all of the bedrooms - a bedroom with a queen bed, a loft area with twin-over-full bunk beds, and the master suite. The queen room is nice and cozy with its own TV, while the bunk room includes another flat screen TV - perfect for keeping the kids entertained while the adults sleep in.

The beautiful master suite has tall, wood-paneled ceilings, comfortable bedding, carpeted floors, and a trendy chevron-patterned headboard. There's an in-room sink and shower for extra convenience, as well as a private water closet with toilet. This home will comfortably sleep seven guests, as well as your furry dog friends (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply). Other amenities include a washer and dryer for guest use.

Nestled in a small mountain community, this cabin is halfway between Welches and Rhododendron. Right nearby, there's hiking along Mirror Lake, boating, rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing and more. And of course there's lots of golf to be played around Welches. The Courses is the Resort at The Mountain's 27-hole golf course - located right between the Salmon River and Mt. Hood National Forest.

When you get hungry, the area's menu is surprisingly diverse. In Rhododendron you can hit the Skyway Bar & Grill for live music, BBQ tofu, ribs, or brisket, or visit the Rendezvous in Welches for cider-poached salmon and wine tasting. There's also ice cream, pizza, and even schnitzel all nearby. You can even watch them roast a fresh batch of beans at Mt. Hood Coffee Roasters!

In winter, it's a quick drive to Mt. Hood Meadows, Timberline Lodge, or Mt. Hood Skibowl. Spend the day skiing or snowboarding, stop for an apres ski treat (maybe a Paul Bunyan pizza and a Multorporter at Timberline's Blue Ox Bar), then head back to your cozy cabin for a soak in the hot tub or some hot cocoa in front of the fireplace. Aside from the downhill adventures, the area also has plenty of cross-country and snowshoeing trails in the forest lands to explore.

This cute and tidy Rhododendron vacation rental makes a great Mt. Hood home base whether it's fall, winter, spring, or summer. Relax surrounded by warm design touches, handmade furniture, and the Mt. Hood National Forest for an Oregon mountain getaway you won't soon forget.

About Vacasa, OR - Mt Hood / Hood River Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Zig Zag Chalet

Super cozy cabin, great location. A little quirky DIY remodel but it totally was great.
Loved popping in the hot tub before and after skiing. Loved the dining table for meals and games.

Clean and Cozy

 • 5 of 5

Loved this cabin. Very clean throughout. Huge, beautiful dinner table. Gas fireplace and wall heaters warm the place up in no time. Nice hot tub right off the deck. Loved that the cover had one of those bar support things to make it easy to hoist it off, especially with the snow on top. Kitchen had everything you need. Nice to have a covered front porch where you can brush off your boots or shoes before going inside. Good amount of privacy. Loved the back room for storing wet boots and clothes after playing in the snow.

Internet didn't work when we got there, but Vacasa and the owner worked to get it going by the next day (had to swap out the router). Also, the electricity went out around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, our last day. It went out in the whole neighborhood though, likely due to a branch falling on a power line. Nobody's fault. Fortunately, the cabin has the gas fireplace and we were able to warm it up. Wish the bed in the master was a king instead of a queen and wish it was more comfortable.

We would recommend this place to friends and family and will seek to rent again!

Fabulous Christmas stay in the woods.

 • 4 of 5

We had a gorgeous three night stay at this sweet little cottage. It's cozy & quaint, without feeling too small. My parents, husband, and two little kids fit easily around the large and very pretty wooden dining table. The kitchen is small but easily fit two cooks. The indoor gas fireplace and outdoor hot tub were especially lovely in the snow. The beds were comfy and the place was immaculately clean. And we were just 5 minutes from a grocery store (Hood Thriftway) and, more importantly, an inexpensive and friendly ski rental shop (Mountain Sports right next door). The only issues we encountered were that the internet was out, the floors were very chilly (bring slippers!) and the power went out twice on the whole road - though a property manager kindly stopped by with flashlights and the fireplace kept the place cozy even while the lights were out. Otherwise it was a fabulous stay!

We had an excellent time. Had to bring some extra cookware, but besides that, everything was perfect!

Just what we were looking for! Nice to have amenities like the hot tub and a full kitchen to cook with. Also really close to local restaurants, and walking distance from the Zig Zag river. Would stay here again!
