About the property

The Best Views Of The Lake From A Large Deck and wonderland for kids to explore

Please contact us for availability. Our Tree House is on a two acre wooded lot. The large deck offers amazing views of the most popular destination on the lake; the sandbar. You may decide to take part in the sandbar festivities or relax on our two acre wooded property.

Whether you are having your morning coffee or enjoying a bottle of Northern Michigan wine, the deck at the Tree House is the perfect spot to unwind.

Discover why Torch Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the country according to National Geographic.

There is public access to the famous Torch Lake sand bar a couple blocks away. We are also a few blocks from the Torch River Marine where you can rent a boat to access Torch Lake and the rest of the Chain of Lakes or access to a boat launch.

The nearby town of Alden (4 miles away) also has a boat ramp and swimming area as well as several unique shops and restaurants. We are only about 25 minutes from Traverse City, home of the National Cherry Festival and many shops, restaurants and wineries. Also, within an hour's drive you will be able to visit Charlevoix, Petoskey, Sleeping Bear Dunes and our personal favorite; Leland.

Northern Michigan is not just a wonderful destination for the summer time. The area offers activities for all seasons of the year. We are minutes away from world class golf courses, vineyards, skiing at Shanty Creek or Boyne, snowmobile trail-heads and casinos.

About Michelle Thelen

Our family purchased the Tree House in December of 2013. We have been visiting Torch Lake for over 25 years and have decided to make this our second home. We love it so much, we would like to share it with other families. Torch Lake is an amazing place to develop long lasting childhood memories.

Michelle Thelen purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Michelle Thelen chose Rapid City

We decided to purchase a boat in the Spring and keep it at the local marina. We bought a boat that we could sleep on. We tested the waters and decided to start looking for a cottage by the lake. The Tree House came to us via some of our local friends. There was no sign in the yard, it was truly for sale via word of mouth. When we pulled up the drive, we fell in love with the cottage well before we went in. The unique design and views sold us.

We love it and we hope you will also share it with your family and loved ones. It is very special.

Adults love the deck and children love to explore the woods and build forts.

What makes this cottage unique

The Tree House has an open floor plan but also offers an in-law-suite on the lower level with private bath. Our home is excellent for families that may have an extra family along or have invited Grandma & Grandpa along.

great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Torch Lake and went on adventures every day- we went to Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Mackinac Island, Leland and Elk Rapids. We also rented a pontoon and that was awesome. What we did not realize is that there are really no nice public beaches on Torch Lake (although there is a very nice one at ElkRapids about 15 min away) and in order to enjoy Torch Lake you really need a boat and this cottage does not have lake access. Favorites of the trip are Elk Rapids beach, Taproot restaurant and shopping in Traverse City, and Cherry Republic (and their wine!)- as well as biking around Mackinac Island and of course renting a pontoon and hanging out at the sandbar and climbing Sleeping Bear Dunes. The lake is amazing, crystal clean and blue like the carribean, it really is beautiful.

Great stay at Torch Lake!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a week at the Treehouse. This worked well for our family of 5. Owner, Michelle, was very easy to work with! Would recommend reserving either a ski boat or pontoon from Torch River Marine in advance, if you want to enjoy the lake because there's is very little public access on Torch. We ordered pizza from Fabianos, nearby one night. Check out the town of Alden and Elk Rapids. My son and I went on a fishing charter on day ( and caught our limit of lake trout. We really enjoyed sitting on back deck with great view of sandbar.

Beautiful home, great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week at the treehouse and had a fantastic experience. The house is very well maintained, well-equipped and very comfortable. Owners are really nice people and easy to work with. The location is perfect, many amenities within walking distance or a just short drive. We spent several days on the sand bar with our daughters and had a blast (no boat required, you can walk from the shore line). This is a great rental for families or couples wanting some time away. Absolutely beautiful!

Perfect location for relaxation, plus amazing access to all surrounding areas.

This treehouse is truly special. Our family had an incredible time at Torch Lake and exploring the surrounding lake region. The house has lovely furnishings and cute decor; is fully stocked to make cooking and cleaning while on vacation easy. Amazing views of the lake and sunrise. Just a short drive to about 15 different incredible day trips. Owners took care of all of our issues promptly and courteously. Just a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!
