Central Oregon Is On Everyone’s List:
Bend has been named by just about every magazine, from Forbes to US News and World Report, as one of the best places in the world to live, retire, mountain bike, ski, golf and hike. Here, you will have no shortage of active pursuits. We are also blessed with quaint shops, excellent restaurant, countless breweries and an eclectic arts and music scene. Further afield, we can boast world-renowned fly fishing and rock climbing. Surrounded by everything that makes living in a place desirable and rewarding, Tetherow truly is at the heart of it all.
Award Winning Golf:
Tetherow Golf Club boasts a visually striking par 72 layout that was designed by award-winning architect David McLay Kidd. The routing takes full advantage of the stunning panoramic views of the Cascade peaks, including Three Sisters and Broken Top as well as the rugged high desert terrain. In its short history, Tetherow has been honored by nearly every major golf publication. Upon opening, Tetherow was ranked #1 as the Best New Course You Can Play in The Country by Golf Magazine and has since then received numerous other “Best New” Rankings from Golf Digest, Links Magazine, Golfweek, T&L Golf and the Robb Report.
Skiing Runs Deep Here:
With over 500 inches of light dry snowfall in the nearby mountains each year, it’s no wonder the US Ski and Snowboard teams frequent Mt. Bachelor for training. It’s not out of the ordinary to share the slopes with world-class skiers and snowboarders. That’s not to say mere mortals can’t enjoy this winter playground every bit as much as the elite athletes. Terrain ranging from extreme to extremely gentle, 56 kilometers of groomed cross country trails, and world-renowned snow parks make Mt. Bachelor the ideal place for your family to ski and board.
We Have What You Crave:
In addition to the outstanding options at Tetherow, Bend offers a myriad of culinary delights! From fine dining at Ariana, 5 Spice or Zydeco, or the family-friendly atmosphere of the restaurants in the Old Mill, Bend has experienced a culinary renaissance in the past decade. Touted by national magazines as a culinary hotbed, our restaurants pride themselves on sourcing their ingredients locally. Whether at Tetherow or elsewhere, whatever your appetite, Central Oregon has you covered!
Shopping In Bend:
From the national retailers that you’ve come to love to the eclectic and unique shops you’ll learn to crave, the Old Mill and Bend’s downtown satisfy. Whether you’re looking to find that perfect something for a shelf in your home or picking out a gift for a friend, shopping has never been more fun or more convenient.
Cycling Is A Way of Life Here:
From world-class mountain biking trails right out your back door to endless road biking routes along scenic byways, Bend is a bicyclist’s paradise. You will also have easy access to our famous Three Sisters Scenic Bike way and Urban Trail System. And if you’re simply looking for a relaxing tour on your favorite cruiser, you’ll be in good company in Bend.
Running At a Whole New Level:
To say we like to run here in Bend is an understatement, and Tetherow is one of the best places around to practice the pursuit. The trails coming right out of the back of the property will take you as far into the Deschutes National Forest as you would like to go.
Fishing the Best Spots Made Easy:
The quality and variety of fishing opportunities in Central Oregon are unmatched. Anywhere. High country lakes beckon with trophy brown, rainbow and lake trout, as well as large-mouth bass. Land-locked sockeye salmon attain exceptional size in some lakes alongside their Atlantic salmon brethren. The legendary Deschutes River winds through magnificent forests and courses through the heart of Bend before sliding north to the Columbia. All its 252 miles represent prime trout habitat. Smaller rivers like the Fall, Crooked, Metolius and Ana provide an exceptional range of fishing adventures.
Endless Possibilities for Hiking:
Let’s start at the beginning. Right outside your door, with direct access from Tetherow, is the Deschutes National Forest and hundreds of miles of trails. A quick drive from home leads you to Tumalo Falls, where the five-mile trail to Happy Valley begins, and who doesn’t want to go to Happy Valley? A trek to Lava Island Falls is just as close. So are the historic trails of Shevlin Park. If you prefer City views at the end of your hike, how about hiking Pilot Butte? The Pacific Crest Trail and Smith Rock State Park tug at your boots, too.

This house looked incredible from the photos, it was even better in person. The floor plan and the finishes could not be improved upon. Location was great too, had good proximity to town while more importantly to us it was out of the way enough to be quiet and relaxing, truly best of both worlds. Owner's representative was very easy to work with and accommodating, everything was as promised or better. The Master bathroom and walk-in were fantastic, The Beds, Linens and even the towels were all of very high quality. Can't say enough, not a single complaint, more than pleased and will be back again.
Stylish, well-stocked home
We were with one other family (total of 7 people) when we stayed here in February. We very much enjoyed our visit--the house is new, beautiful, and immaculately clean. It was comfortable and spacious, and well-stocked with the things you'd need for your stay--fully-equipped kitchen, extra towels, etc. The house had comfortable bedding, plenty of storage, and a nice layout for more than one family and/or family with kids (main level living room, upstairs media room). Location is convenient to Mt Bachelor and to downtown Bend. There was a maintenance issue during our stay, but the property manager and owner responded when we contacted them, and they worked to address it. Would stay here again!
WOW this home was awesome!! Great location, beautiful view and fully stocked with all you need for a memorable vacation in Bend. Thank you so much for sharing your home, we WILL be back.
A passion for recreation is what brings many people to Bend, Oregon. Located in the high desert of central Oregon, Bend is famous for its many forms of outdoor recreation. Kayakers and rafters shoot through the exciting triple waterfalls of the Deschutes River. The Deschutes, Metolius and Crooked Rivers also offer fantastic fly fishing, with more than 500 miles of streams and rivers stocked with trout and steelhead. Golfers have over 20 top-rated courses nearby, offering every kind of golf challenge. Mountain bike cyclists can choose off road riding in uncrowded lush forests, high mountain peaks, lava fields or desert.
Mt. Bachelor's ten alpine lifts, six of them high speed, give skiers 3,683 skiable acres of slopes, with 1,600 acres groomed daily. Parks and pipes for snowboarders are a priority, making Mt. Bachelor one of Oregon's premier snowboarding areas. Cross country skiing on the 56 kilometers of trails on Mt. Bachelor is a popular winter sport. Snowmobilers have 560 miles of groomed trails to choose from in the Deschutes National Forest, with 175 miles of that in the Bend District. Snowtubing, snowshoeing and sled dog rides are also exciting and memorable activities for your family.
World class rock climbing and miles of hiking trails at Smith Rock State Park makes it a popular retreat for climbers and hikers. Backcountry hikers and campers head into the solitude of the Three Sisters Wilderness, while others take a hike in the more than 2.5 million acres of national forests in the Bend area. Parks and picnicking abound in and around Bend. Almost all of the parks, lakes and rivers in the area have picnic areas. Bend has recreation fun for everyone!
Walking, shopping or dining in historic downtown Bend enhances your recreational experience. Drake Park's Mirror Pond, the jewel of downtown Bend, is a small lake with ducks, Canadian geese, and a pair of swans from Queen Elizabeth's royal swannery in England. The wide stretches of green grass provide a restful counterpoint to the old brick and masonry buildings that compose Bend's business area. Galleries, restaurants, outdoor eateries, boutiques and specialty shops are all within easy walking distance. Farther from the downtown area, the Old Mill District, located on a site previously used for lumber mills, features upscale shopping, trendy restaurants and an outdoor amphitheater which is used for summer concerts. A selection of shopping malls and factory outlet shopping is available in the areas outlying Bend.
For a panoramic view of Bend and the volcanic peaks around it, take a walk or a drive to the top of Pilot Butte. From this 511 feet high volcanic cindercone, you can see a vista of the high desert region, including nine snowcapped Cascade peaks. A few of the peaks you'll see are the Three Sisters, Broken Top Mountain and Mt. Jefferson. An even finer view can be found at the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This monument stretches from Paulina Peak to the Deschutes River and includes hiking trails, lava formations, obsidian fields, and waterfalls, as well as incredible scenery. Also in the Newberry Monument area is the 18 square mile Newberry Crater, which includes Paulina and East lakes, two of Oregon's best mountain fishing lakes.
Spelunking, also called caving, in the lava tubes at Skeleton Cave, Arnold Ice Caves or Lava River Caves will show you how the underground half lives. Lava River Cave, Oregon's longest continuous lava tube, is a good beginner cave for families to explore. Geocachers can look for the Earthcache located at this site. All cavers should bring their own light, and wear warm clothing and boots - the cave temperature is approximately 40 F.
No one can accomplish all there is to do in Bend in one visit. Choose a few of the many opportunities waiting for you, and then, plan what you will do on your next trip to this recreation mecca.
