Tahoe is Beautiful in October

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful October trip to Tahoe with Girlfriends from high school 1972!!! The Hawthorne House is a comfy cabin and Paul was a pleasure to work with. The home has all the necessities and lots of sleeping options.

Perfect getaway

  • 4 of 5

Absolutely loved our stay. With 5 kids and 5 adults it was perfect with ample space. Everything was very clean and the fireplace worked perfect. We really appreciated that the driveway stairs and porch were all cleaned out and shoveled so we didn't have to worry about walking up to the doors. it make It made it safe and helpful for my father who uses a cane.

Kitchen has everything we needed as we cooked while staying. Only issue is perhaps add another throw rug to the entry as we had a hard time keeping the floors dry with so much snow play. Other then that it was a perfect stay!

Solid Deal

  • 4 of 5

Great cabin, great location, overall a great rental.

The cabin could be better stocked on towels - there may have only been about 8 bath towels at the cabin and it's supposed to accommodate about a dozen people. Besides that, great place!

Clean and well maintained Old Tahoe home

  • 4 of 5

We were pleased upon entering the home to find it clean and well-maintained. There isn't a lot of clutter and the house is homey and has a nice layout that worked well for us.

We had 3 in pack n plays, so we were pleased to find the 2 upstairs closets big enough to be a "child's bedroom". The one thing for parents of young children to be aware of is that the stairs are steep and there are no spindles along the railing, a child could easily fall through if not watched. We brought our tension gate and blocked the stairs when we were all downstairs together.

The homeowners were very responsive and when 3 kids had been stung by yellow jackets in 24h, they had a spray company come and deal with the nesting activity under the deck. We had no issues after that with the wasps. (To be fair, everyone said it was the worst year on record for yellow jackets) I let the homeowner know that a number of the pans were warped and not really usable and he said that they would buy new ones.

I did wish there were more beach towels - we had brought our own as there were only 2, but this would be a nice extra. The only negative in my mind is that a few of the beds are rather old. We slept in the king bed upstairs and it was possibly more comfortable than ours at home, however the twin room beds are old as was the queen upstairs. These beds are OK for younger lightweight children, but teens and adults might not be comfortable.

All in all we were pleased with this home and would definitely rent it again.

A Gem in the Mountains, Steps from Gorgeous Lake Tahoe

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here as a group of (5) adults and (3) kids from 3 different families, there was MORE than enough room. Everything was exactly as described, photos are spot on, except that they don't show how clean and well kept everything has remained over the years. Though it has not been remodeled super recently, everything is in amazing condition and the bedding and beds are new, clean and super comfortable. It is just a stroll down to the private access to the lake. We loved packing sandwiches and walking down with the kids, and being able to run home if we had forgotten anything. The huge porch is the highlight, we spent mornings and evenings out there, drinking coffee, wine, and enjoying dinner and games with our friends and family. Owner was super fast at responding, one of the kids accidentally tore a mattress pad, but we were charged just the amount it must have cost to replace it (it was lower than we would have expected). Great house, honest owner. We will definitely be back!

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 4 days during the New Year period. The property is very well located just a very short walk to the lake. The kitchen is very well equipped, beds are comfortable and it is very clean. Previously we were looking at many different properties to rent, and various owners confirmed availability and a few hours later when we were in the process to proceed with the payment arrangements, they will tell us that they were already in talks with other potential customers and the properties were already booked, all very frustrating !!!!! Another plus about this property is that it is very well priced and it was the only property that we came across during our search that we could make the payment straight away by card through Homeaway payment capabilities and also as a guarantee instead of requesting to send by cheque a considerable amount as a deposit , they provide the option to pay a small insurance fee as an alternative. Very pleased with the fair, quick and transparent booking arrangements.
