About James Mclean

We are a French-Scottish couple who have been based in Brittany for 17 years. We love travelling and spend time away for work and pleasure. Jim is a geologist and photographer and Francoise teaches French as a second language.

James Mclean purchased this house in 1997

Why James Mclean chose Brittany

We fell for the environment, the river, the trees and the charm of this stone house that we have enjoyed renovating over the years.

What makes this house unique

It feels good living in this house - it`s authentic and cosy. Outside we love the view onto the magnificent old oak trees and the walk down to the river.

Attractions within walking distance of the house include - la cale de Montmarin - a beautiful picnic spot on the left bank of the Rance (5 minutes); le Chateau du Montmarin, an 18th century manor house with a large and beautiful garden park open to the public (5 minutes); Cancaval nature reserve with a coastal path giving magnificent views of the Rance estuary (20 minutes); the Jersey Lillie, a delightful little bar and restaurant on the waterfront (15 minutes through the trees on the coastal path, or 10 minutes by car).

By road the house is ideally situated close to the centre of the Dinard (10 minutes) - Saint Malo (15 minutes) - Dinan (20 minutes) triangle. The area is full of lovely beaches stretching both east and west along the Brittany coastline. Character villages and towns with lively, colourful markets and fairs abound.

The world-famous Abbey of Mont Saint Michel (after the Eiffel Tower, France`s most visited destination) is only 1 hour away on the Britanny/Normandy border. Other attractions within 1 hour`s drive include Rennes, the regional capital and the very well-preserved medeival castle, Fort La Latte.
