Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Home With A Forest Out Back, Situated Along Hiking Trails

In addition, during the summer (we are more flexible during spring thru fall) we prefer 4-7 day bookings but given we will accommodate varied turnover days (and the occasional 2-3 night weekend reservation) this inevitably results in 2-3 day vacant periods between longer reservations which we need to allow at certain points during the summer. Hence we have set our minimum stay at 2 nights although in general we prefer longer rentals.

Certainly, inquire if you are interested in a shorter stay, but we can not guarantee we will be able to accommodate those request.

We do encourage potential guests to message/email through VRBO to clarify our availability prior to using instant book.

In general we require our guests to be a minimum of an average 30 years of age unless the group is a family with children.

This home is unique in several ways. It is a custom built chalet-style home, built primarily using old-world materials (lots of reclaimed wood and stone). Our backyard is landscaped as a small oasis, and borders on a hiking trail that goes for kilometres through the forest and along the Grand River. Two minutes from our home there is access to the Grand River, where you can canoe or kayak enjoy the peace and beauty of the river (we provide 1 canoe, 1 kayak, and a means to transport them). There are also several beautiful biking trails close to our home, and again, we offer the use of 1 mountain bike, 1 hybrid bike, 2 road bikes, as well as children's bikes. Our home's location offers the best of both rural and urban features, however, as we are also located just minutes from a commercial area that boasts all of the amenities of a large urban centre, such as a good shopping mall, many restaurants, a children's museum, art galleries, etc.

For a day trip, we are a 30 minute drive from the idyllic, artistic town of Elora. This town is built around the river, and boasts gorgeous old stone buildings and a myriad of artisan shops----amazing shopping to find unique home décor, clothing, and jewellery.

We are a 30 minute drive to Stratford, a beautiful town which hosts the renowned Stratford Shakespearean festival.

We are a short 1hr drive to Toronto.

We are also a 1hr 40min drive from the beach town of grand bend. Here you can swim, jetski, shop along the boardwalk, and generally pick up the relaxed, fun vibe that goes along with a beachtown.

We are also located 1 hour and 15 minutes from niagara falls, as well as one hour from niagara on the lake, which is wine country, where you can take vineyard tours and enjoy the wines this lush region has to offer.

The available beds are 2 king, 1 double and 1 room with the double/queen bunk beds. High end inflatable nylon (as opposed to vinyl) mattresses (both queen and twin) available on request.

About Jennifer & Thanos Papastergiou

We are a family with two young children. My husband is a busy emergency room doctor, and I am a primary school French teacher.

Jennifer & Thanos Papastergiou purchased this house in 2009

Why Jennifer & Thanos Papastergiou chose Grand River South

It is the perfect blend or rural and urban----the view from our windows is a forest, the feel inside our home is of an upscale chalet, and yet we live within 15 minutes of absolutely all of the cultural and entertainment amenities that a large city has to offer.

What makes this house unique

There are hardwood floors throughout, all made from reclaimed barnboard, there are stone mantel fireplaces both upstairs and down, and a beautiful gourmet kitchen. We have a home theatre in the downstairs rec room. A small above-ground pool has also recently been added. We also have a built-in fire pit in our backyard deck----perfect for mellow evenings around the fire roasting marshmallows (without the need to sleep in a tent afterwards!) The view from the rear of the house is a forest with large willow trees. Please see our photos, as text does capture the beauty of our home.

Beautiful and cozy retreat enjoyed by our entire family!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing stay in this beautiful home in early January. We loved the natural wood and stone throughout the house and the spectacular view of the snow and trees outside, while enjoying the warmth of the wood burning stove. It was a pleasure to prepare meals in the well stocked kitchen and a wonderful space for us all to be together! Communication with Thanos and Jennifer was a pleasure. Thank you so much!!

Unique Ambience

  • 4 of 5

This a really cool chalet that is unlike anything in the area, very nice hardwood floors and a short drive to any amenity. The hosts are very attentive and I would recommend it for any medium sized group as there is lots of sleeping spots and a great kitchen and deck off of the kitchen.

Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

This place is stocked. We had several young children with staying there, and they were very excited to see an entire wall filled with bins of different kinds of toys. The yard was also great for kids, with a sandbox, swing and some room to run around. We were also pleased to see a babygate, which made things easier, but couldn't find the highchair (luckily we had brought some booster seats). For adults, the decor was gorgeous, spa- Iike and welcoming (we put a few breakable things away for our stay). The upstairs bathroom in particular is huge and has a beautiful large tub set in the floor and a waterfall shower. The bedrooms easily fit each of our families. The kitchen made it easy to cook our own meals, which was a huge plus since two of my sisters have food allergies. The neighborhood is quiet and yet the house is close to grocery store, church and parks. The owners were fairly easy to get a hold of, and left instructions and contact numbers in a binder on the kitchen table so we had all the information we needed. It is a lovely setting to vacation in!!

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Jennifer and Thanos's place is by far the best place we had stayed in on this vacation. It is comfortable, clean, and has everything one needs. The bottom floor is a walk-out into the back yard which is simply beautiful- the pool, all the plants and flowers are so relaxing. I eventually got the kids to jump into the pool and they enjoyed their time splashing around and cooling off from the summer heat.

Jennifer snd Thanos used reclaimed wood for the floors and much of the inside which gave the house a cottage-like feel and provided for the most cozy living environment. The house has a great entertainment system which in 10-days we couldn't explore it all- Thanos being a gamer has equipped the place fully.

The kitchen was great and had all that we needed. The same goes for the bedrooms and the living areas. As soon as we settled in, we all relaxed from our long flight and later loved the walks around. You will need a car to get to grocery stores which are less than 3-5 minutes away.

I highly recommend staying there- we missed it as soon as we left!! We would definitely come back.

Family Wedding

  • 5 of 5

We needed a four bedroomed property in Kitchener so that we could attend a family wedding.

This is a really wonderful home and was absolutely perfect for our needs. It was all that we had hoped for and a lot more. The house is very spacious, immaculate throughout and very much a home from home.

The owners were very easy to contact, very efficient and everything was done in a most courteous and friendly manner.

Perhaps we will be back in this area and if we are then we will check to see if this rental is still available.

If you stay here I cannot imagine how you will not be completely satisfied.

Our property is bordering on the Grand River, with a hiking trail along the edge of our property that goes for kilometres in either direction, through forests and along the river. We have the best of both rural and urban worlds, however, as we are only a four-minute drive to a commercial area that hosts great restaurants, a shopping mall, and all the amenities of a large city.
