Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom. 2 Bath. Sleeps 7-9

Our house is clean, cozy, comfortable and is filled with quirky, upcycled and repurposed furnishings (except of course for the 'new appliances' and 'new bedding'). We wanted a vacation home that was 'FUN' and something that is different from your usual everyday schedule. Many items in the house are repurposed or handcrafted. Our dining table is actually a solid wood door rescued from a torn down girls dorm at a local community college. My very talented husband and co-DIYer, Rickey, built the table and I painted. The dining bench was crafted by him and I re-vamped the chairs. The 'sleeping porch' is actually enclosed and consists of 3 twin beds with a view of the lake and is stocked with many board games, card games and a bubble-gum machine, a great place for kids to hang out. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to prepare a quick meal if you decide to eat in. The large den has plenty of seating for tv or for playing games with the family. Master bedroom and bath has some antique furnishing along with a 'vintage' barn door resurrected into a headboard and a collection of old alarm clocks (all set on 5:00 of course). The second bedroom has shabby chic furnishings with old window shutters transformed into a headboard. The hall is lined with a collection of 'rock and roll' albums and one wall of 45 speed records... that will bring back memories of fun days past. If you would love to RELAX and UNPLUG for a couple of days or for the week, please make plans to stay and MAKE SOME MEMORIES.

About Stanice Gray

My husband and I have always loved being on the lake. We are currently working now and look forward to be able to retire to the lake. We have a blended family of 4 children. One daughter/son-n-law, two grandboys, two sons living with us and one son waiting on us in heaven. We all spend as much time as we can at the lake in the summer and even during the winter months it is still nice to come and 'unplug' for a while. The grandboys love to come and have a 'battleship game' tournament, throw rocks and fish while they are here.

Stanice Gray purchased this house in 2012

Why Stanice Gray chose Scottsboro

Our dream was to one day buy a vacation home on the lake and after several years of looking and looking, we finally found the perfect vacation home for our family. Our dream came true. It is only 45 minutes from our home now. So it is close enough to stay the weekend and be back to work by Monday. We love having our family and friends to come and enjoy it with us. We ARE making lots of priceless memories each and every time we are here. Our children bring their kids and friends to the lake house, which we LOVE! We have large family cookouts, get togethers and even community picnics. Now we would like to shall all the fun and excitement we have experienced.

What makes this house unique

We decided with this vacation home first and foremost would be a 'fun' place to stay and it would be comfortable! Our house is filled with lots of up-cycled, repurposed, resurrected and handcrafted items. We didn't want anything from big box stores, that's what makes our house unique!

Perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved the eclectic decor, spent a lot of time at the outdoor bar-porch area & fire pits. We had everything we needed, only brought food, toiletries, charcoal & lighter fluid. We even brought our corn hole boards and enjoyed the backyard area.

We definitely want to return and would highly recommend it to anyone.

A lovely Thanksgiving at the lake

  • 4 of 5

Family time can be as stressful as it is wonderful so we've started taking our Thanksgiving waterside to set the tone for our gatherings. We were very pleased with this property...it was easy to get to, clean, and decorated for the holidays, which was a happy surprise. We aren't small folks so bigger beds would have been ideal, but the beds were very cozy and comfortable. The river view from the back porch is amazing and the option of two firepits to use was wonderful. We lucked up with cool, sunny weather and there was so much wonderful wildlife to see, so many birds, fish, squirrels -- and our absolute favorite, the neighbor's White Dog that greeted us on arrival and stayed with us most of our time, napping and tail-wagging joining us on our walks to the waterline. What a sweet, friendly dog. The nice, flat yardspace off of the porches made it fun for little boys to play football and run around and also let grandparents worry less about their steps. Our hesitation to give it 5 stars is because the 3rd double bed(room) was very small and only accessible through the (3) twin beds room, which is where the kids stayed and went to bed earlier than the adults. We were mostly outside enjoying the porch and the river so it worked out just fine, but a separate entrance for that room would be more ideal. The indoor gas fireplace did not work, but again, being outside was our focus. The water pressure is good, the house has great, fun decorations and the dining room table (which is a repurposed door) is really cute, but a little difficult if you need to cut food or have your plate closer (small kids) because of the door indentions. We only ate there once so it was fine. We brought our fishing boat and the ramp was just a mile or so away. It would have been nice to be able to dock at the property, but the water was too shallow, but it was not a problem for us as fishing was not our main focus. All in all, we had a really wonderful time, and will definitely visit this property again.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in rentals of all types and we really enjoyed yours. The location was perfect for all of us . Me and my siblings make a yearly trip . The house was set up perfectly with plenty of room for all. Also the neighbors were very friendly as well as the local dogs . All made it very enjoyable. We would definitely recommend it .

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed your home

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family of 5 and the decorations were awesome! It was a nice chance to unplug and reconnect as a family. We brought our canoe which enabled us to paddle out and fish some. We enjoyed s'mores in the firepit and hung out in our Enos. Great time all around!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

If you can't have a good time in this house, something's wrong! The thoughtful decor immediately puts you on "lake time". The house is clean and comfortable. There is plenty of room to spread out, but honestly we spent most of our time on the dreamy back porch. Perfect for mealtime or watching the game! The dock area was a little too shallow for getting boats in and out, but perfect for drinking coffee in the a.m. and watching the lake wildlife. There are several good boat launches minutes away. The neighbors are friendly and White Dog was a fan favorite! Booking was easy with Stanice and she was helpful and quick to respond to my emails. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer! Wonderful experience!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the sweet words! We want everyone to feel as comfortable at the lake as you are at your own home. The back porch is a great place to eat and have fun doing it. Yes, sometimes the water gets shallow but that is due to TVA controlling the water levels of the lake You guys are always welcome to come back and visit. Thanks again for the great review.
