Our house is clean, cozy, comfortable and is filled with quirky, upcycled and repurposed furnishings (except of course for the 'new appliances' and 'new bedding'). We wanted a vacation home that was 'FUN' and something that is different from your usual everyday schedule. Many items in the house are repurposed or handcrafted. Our dining table is actually a solid wood door rescued from a torn down girls dorm at a local community college. My very talented husband and co-DIYer, Rickey, built the table and I painted. The dining bench was crafted by him and I re-vamped the chairs. The 'sleeping porch' is actually enclosed and consists of 3 twin beds with a view of the lake and is stocked with many board games, card games and a bubble-gum machine, a great place for kids to hang out. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to prepare a quick meal if you decide to eat in. The large den has plenty of seating for tv or for playing games with the family. Master bedroom and bath has some antique furnishing along with a 'vintage' barn door resurrected into a headboard and a collection of old alarm clocks (all set on 5:00 of course). The second bedroom has shabby chic furnishings with old window shutters transformed into a headboard. The hall is lined with a collection of 'rock and roll' albums and one wall of 45 speed records... that will bring back memories of fun days past. If you would love to RELAX and UNPLUG for a couple of days or for the week, please make plans to stay and MAKE SOME MEMORIES.
My husband and I have always loved being on the lake. We are currently working now and look forward to be able to retire to the lake. We have a blended family of 4 children. One daughter/son-n-law, two grandboys, two sons living with us and one son waiting on us in heaven. We all spend as much time as we can at the lake in the summer and even during the winter months it is still nice to come and 'unplug' for a while. The grandboys love to come and have a 'battleship game' tournament, throw rocks and fish while they are here.
Stanice Gray purchased this house in 2012
Our dream was to one day buy a vacation home on the lake and after several years of looking and looking, we finally found the perfect vacation home for our family. Our dream came true. It is only 45 minutes from our home now. So it is close enough to stay the weekend and be back to work by Monday. We love having our family and friends to come and enjoy it with us. We ARE making lots of priceless memories each and every time we are here. Our children bring their kids and friends to the lake house, which we LOVE! We have large family cookouts, get togethers and even community picnics. Now we would like to shall all the fun and excitement we have experienced.
We decided with this vacation home first and foremost would be a 'fun' place to stay and it would be comfortable! Our house is filled with lots of up-cycled, repurposed, resurrected and handcrafted items. We didn't want anything from big box stores, that's what makes our house unique!
My family rented this lakefront home for a long Thanksgiving weekend and we are so pleased that we did. We needed a change a pace after the death of my grandmother and just wanted to unplug and make some new memories. This place was perfect. The house was so clean (that’s huge for me) and accommodated our family perfectly. The beds were comfy, the space was more than adequate, and the décor just has to been seen to be believed. The creativity and thought that has gone into every piece in the home is amazing. It really has so much character.
By far, the best part of this property is the backyard. It has to be one of the best in the nation with sweeping lake views and an enormous yard. Every morning we would wake to a lake full of ducks. I’ve never seen so many and the sound of them taking off from the water was nothing short of majestic.
Everyone fell in love with “Old White Dog” dubbed “Bufford” by my husband and “Old Brown Dog” who was lovingly referred to as “Stevie” while we were there. They visited us daily and it was so hard to say goodbye to them.
My sister enjoyed sitting on the covered back porch painting the scenery (she left two paintings for you, Stanice). My brother fished from the bank. My mom relaxed in the sun sitting in the Adirondack chairs by the lake. Peaceful, that’s just the feeling we all got while we were there and the memories we left with.
Stanice was a pleasure to work with and even had a sweet message waiting on a chalkboard on the front door for us when we arrived. I really can’t say enough good things about this place and there’s too much to describe in one review. Needless to say, the whole family agrees that we will be back in warmer weather to take full advantage of this great property.
Loved looking in each room at the unique items and furniture. A great place to stay with family or friends.
My family was very excited once we stepped into this awesomely unique home. We enjoyed the comfort of the home including the beds. My boys, who are 14 and 8 and consider themselves as gamers, were amused and entertained by the games and unique antique toys that were in the house. The view of the lake and the huge backyard were a plus. The short drive into Gunterville and Cathedral Caverns made this vacation spot perfect for my family. Thank you for allowing us to stay. We will be back.
My family (me, husband, 2 boys) had a great time at this home in the woods. It was quaint, very roomy, decorated nicely and very clean! It was supposed to have satalite TV available but we could not get it to work, which turned out to be a blessing as our boys were forced to step away from all electronics during this getaway. There are several board games laying around that we took advantage of, as well as a short trail in the woods to explore. Also, the Cathedral Caverns is very close and a fantastic addition to the allure of this home in the woods. The tour into the caves is amazing and well worth going to. I would highly recommend this VRBO!
Upon walking into the house we were taken back by how nice the place was. It had very appealing décor throughout. It was nice to have all the information notes around, also very pleased with the supplies left in the baskets. We did not need anything, but it was nice that it was there if we did need it (shampoo, rain ponchos...). The back porch and bar area was our favorite, the saddles were a great touch. We are talking about coming back in the future, when we can spend more time relaxing by the lake.
Thank you for letting us use your house.
The lake house and property was fabulous, awesome and so much more than we expected. It is definitely somewhere my family will return too and already looking forward to returning.
Lake Guntersville is known for its unbelievable bass fishing and the Bass Masters Tournament in Feb.2014. Fishermen love the area and Ladies love the shopping. With the world famous Unclaimed Baggage 10 minutes away and many antique/junktique shops close at hand. Wal-Mart only 13 minutes away in Scottsboro. Guntersville or Scottsboro, lots of fantastic restaurants. Lake Guntersville State Park only 35 minutes away, offering restaurant, golfing, hiking trails and wildlife. But if you are looking for some family time or just some time to relax and unwind then this is your vacation destination. Two words that best describe our lake house is unique and comfortable.
