Space 3,922 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Elegant, centrally located historic home in heart of Vineyard Haven

This meticulously renovated home is located one block from downtown Vineyard Haven in the Historic District. Although walking distance (4 minutes) to the ferry it is located on a quiet, entirely residential street. The home is large, gracious and perfect for entertaining or for a quiet, luxurious retreat. With 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, 5 working fireplaces and lovely yard, enjoy a luxurious vacation or intimate wedding and rehearsal dinners. Walk to the beach, sit by the fire or entertain in the gourmet kitchen and dining room.

The back yard is very large for this area of the Island, with mature trees and plantings and can accommodate a tent and up to 80 guests, a dance floor and bar. A one minute walk brings you down a path leading directly to Main Street and 3 additional minutes brings you to the ferry by foot. So close to downtown, but on a completely quiet, residential street in the Historic District. It has four private parking spaces and a parking garage, as well.

Newly renovated, it has all new plumbing, electric, heat and AC. With great attention to detail, it is both elegant and friendly with tons of natural light. Perfect for a family and large enough to have visitors comfortably. It can sleep up to 9 people.

The first floor has tall ceilings with crown moldings and has a large, well equipped eat-in kitchen with a table to seat 10. It has a working fireplace.

Adjacent to the Kitchen is a large living room with 11 feet of 8 foot tall glass doors leading to a deep mahogany deck.

The living room has two seating areas separated by a bank of low bookcases and also has a working fireplace and small bar tucked into a corner of the room. Stereo speakers are built into the ceiling of the living room and kitchen

On the other side of the Kitchen is a family room with a working fireplace and a large screen TV.

The first floor also has a full bathroom with a very large shower and curved vanity. Next to the front door is a mud room with large carved antique wood doors from Spain used for a coat closet.

You ascend the original, curved staircase with a mahogany banister to the second floor. This brings you to either the Master Bedroom Suite or one of two Bedrooms. One large bedroom, with a queen size 4 poster bed and one smaller bedroom with a fireplace share a full bath with tub and shower. Pass through this bathroom and you find a laundry with washing machine, dryer, ample counters and shelving.

Turn the other direction and you either ascend to the 3rd story or enter the very large, Master Bedroom with sumptuous en suite bath. The Master Bedroom has it's own marble fireplace and private deck which runs the full width of the building - 35 feet. It has views of the Vineyard Haven Harbor. The en-suite bath is all white marble with two individual vanities, a frameless glass shower and a luxurious, deep soaking bathtub.

Now for the fun. The third floor has a peaked ceiling 9-1/2 feet at its highest point. The walls and ceiling of this entire floor are sheathed in knotty pine with a light pickle stain allowing the entire floor to be flooded with light. The floor is designed to be either for an au pair with a queen size bed and can also accommodate an additional 2 kids with day beds.

A full bath allows this floor to be it's own retreat.

This house has it all ! ! Location, grandeur, comfort and history. Have we left something out ?

About Paul Lazes

My name is Paul Lazes and I will personally introduce you to this beautiful, historic home we have just finished renovating. My family and I have lived on the Vineyard for the past 14 years and I am originally from New York City. In New York, I designed renovations of large apartments in Manhattan, but this is my first renovation on the Vineyard. This home has everything going for it: located close to downtown, but on a quiet, historic street. With large rooms and tall ceilings, it is very unique.

I look forward to meeting you.

Highly Recommend This House

  • 5 of 5

I have never stayed or even considered staying in Vineyard Haven in the years I have been to Martha's Vineyard. This house blew me away. The renovations were perfect and the history of the house is amazing. There were days that we just walked down to Main Street to go shopping or to Grace Church for their lobster roll night. We could even watch the Oak Bluffs fireworks from the master suite balcony. It was perfect for a group of 5 women and the location could not be matched. The owner was wonderful and helpful throughout our stay. I only wished we had more time to enjoy this beautiful house. A+++

Five of Five Stars !

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about our stay at this lovely home on Martha's Vineyard. Tise house is a magnificent example of a large traditional 19th century home being brought into the 21st Century, WITH STYLE ! And then there is location, location, location. Just a short stroll from Main Street and yet in the most quiet of neighborhoods on an absolutely charming tree-lined street. Vineyard Haven is the best kept secret of the Vineyard ! My family and I have been coming to the Vineyard for more than 12 years and have stayed in several of the towns, checking out various parts of the Island. Hands down, we're voting for Vineyard Haven. It has it all; restaurants, shops, night-spots, and a state of the art movie theater, etc. etc., including access to the water, boating and tennis, all near by.

The house is truly magnificent. It is stately, has charm, warmth, flow and just a casual sense of style. It is completely livable while at the same time regal feeling. The kitchen is incredibly well appointed with gourmet appliances and a gorgeous oversized table and gathering area for entertaining. Huge copper clad doors create a stunning ambiance.

Our kids were happy too ... couldn't get enough of the 3rd Floor loft area.

Once they were up there, it was theirs. (Nothing like an out of the way (safe) place for the kids !)

Communication with the owner was clear, prompt and always easy. If you've got the time, he'll take you out on his sail boat. We had a truly great vacation in this fabulous home !

Planning on many returns.

Wow, what a house!

  • 5 of 5

I have rented often on MV, but I have found the perfect island home in this newly renovated classic Vineyard jewel. Perfect for gatherings, spacious, airy, appointed perfectly---it's like a page from Architectural Digest or House & Garden!!! because it's stunning, yet homey. The hosts have thought of every detail; each room in the house has charm and panache. A great view and easy access to town, yet private. I will definitely return with my kids and grand kids...

Heaven. Elegant, exquisite, right in town and wonderful hosts!

  • 5 of 5

You can not beat this exquisitely decorated house, this spectacular location and these hosts.

We spent a perfect week in this home, walked into Vineyard Haven and to the water daily, and then had the pleasure of coming home to this beautiful and gracious home. I love architecture and interior decorating, so this house was eye candy for me. Every detail was unique and beautifully crafted. I couldn't stop admiring the details.

Our hosts were wonderful and accommodating, and we even hired them to take us out on their sailboat, which they graciously did. They were great to spend time with. It was a truly special added memory for our already fantastic vacation.

I can not recommend this house highly enough and I can not wait to return. I wish I never had to leave!
