Welcome to Chief Cliff! Relax and have fun in the summer sun on quiet and uncrowded Flathead Lake. This two bedroom lake house includes a separate guest cabin, a large dock and 100 feet of lake front. You will find everything you need here to enjoy a relaxing week or two ... or three!
Boating activities abound; the lake is a wonderful place for water skiing, jet skiing, towing the kids on a tube, or going for a sail. Mornings and evenings are usually calm waters and excellent for kayaking, canoeing or touring the lake. Flathead Lake is 27 miles long, so there is plenty of exploring to do! The shore and private dock are steps away from the main house, and access is across a nearly level lawn. Unlike many properties on the lake, here you do not have to go up and down stairs to get from the yard to the water.
Many visitors are avid fishermen. You can fish from the dock, go out in your boat to those 'special spots', or hire a professional fishing guide at Lakeside.
Enjoy the stories of the day, and the s'mores to go with them around the campfire in the evening. The fire pit is next to the water, and there is firewood for you to use.
The main house has master bedroom w/ bath and queen bed, the second bedroom has a double bed. The living room has a queen hide-a-bed sofa. The living room looks out to the lake; walk through the sliding glass doors to the large covered deck for a quiet place to sit and view the water and mountains, or share a meal on the deck at the picnic table. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, spices, appliances and serving ware, and there is a propane BBQ grill on the deck. Raining? Look for the ping pong table in the basement.
The charming guest house has one bedroom w/ double bed, kitchen, bathroom and a double-size hide-a-bed sofa in living room. You will enjoy the rustic era of the guest cottage. It was one of the original cabins on the lake.
The property is 1.6 acres, and extends from the lake up to the road. Bring a Frisbee, bocce ball or badminton set to enjoy the large yard. Your kids will enjoy playing hide and seek among the pine trees and will likely spot some wild rabbits, squirrels, and possibly deer making their way across the grounds.
Wild Horse Island, visible from the house, is a state park, and if you travel around it by boat at just the right time, you may see bighorn sheep, or if you are really lucky, the wild horses. To see another state park area, walk down Meadowlark Lane 0.9 miles to Big Arm State Park where you will find a campground at water's edge and hiking trails.
In addition to all the activities to do at the property, there is a lot to see and do in the local area. Many travelers take advantage of the close proximity to Glacier National Park, one of the most stunning natural areas in the Rocky Mountains; the entrance is 90 minutes away. Closer by, the town of Big Fork at the north end of the lake has many tourist activities such as theater, art, shops and restaurants. Polson, just 14 miles away, is your spot for the local farmer's market, groceries, library, golfing and viewing Kerr Dam. Mission Mountain Winery and tasting room is just across the bay, only 5 miles from the house. A half hour drive in another direction can take you to Hot Springs where there are a number of natural hot springs pools.
Nice property, located right on the lake with a nice dock area and great views of the lake.
Convenient porch overlooking the lake, great for relaxing and enjoying the view.
Conveniently located close to Polson, just 15 min away.
Fairly secluded with lots of trees providing privacy.
Owner called twice to make sure everything was going fine.
I’ve never been to Montana, and I think the perfect introduction was probably Flathead Lake. We drove around the lake and took our time. There are some amazing views and I got some great pictures. We stopped at a couple of pubs along the way and made a day of it.
Kerr dam was another great trip, and there were some stunning rock formations there. This area has a rich geological history, as it’s considered the end of the Rocky Mountain Trench. The glacier that ended there carved out a beautiful landscape.
Having said that, the real star of the trip was the Chief Cliff cabin. It has a beautiful dock for fishing and boating, and just hanging out in general. The dock and the dock belonging to the cabin next door create a bit of a protected area for swimming, and that makes this place so family friendly. Another family friendly feature of this cabin is the yard. It’s amazing. There is beautiful green grass that seems to stretch out for acres. We played Bache ball, and there’s lots of room for yard games. We had some great meals out on the deck and played cards out there at night. There seemed to be something for everybody to do, and we all ended our days around the fire pit, which is a few short steps away from the lake.
The little cabin in the back is a real sweetie, and with the fold out couches we were able to sleep ten people in the two cabins. I highly recommend this property. We were so comfortable there and had such a good time. Have a great vacation.
My son and I joined our friends here in Sept. 2013. We loved it! The house is spotlessly clean, well-maintained and comfortably furnished. Kitchen’s got oodles of cooking supplies. The vista from living room and deck of Flathead Lake with Chief Cliff towering in the distance is inspiring. It’s truly a comfy, family-style rental—with dynamite location and view.
Lake is just a few easy steps from the house. We swam off the dock and lounged in the sun. We sailed on Flathead and zipped around the lake in a motor boat. We barbequed and picnicked on the deck. We napped in a hammock, brought by a friend and strung between a pair of lake-facing shade trees. We took walks up the scenic drive and along the peaceful country road. At night we built a campfire and star-gazed at the amazingly clear sky. We’d stay here again in a twinkling!
