Historic Craftsman Bungalow 3 Bdrm 2 bth, extra sleeping area available
About Kristi McLean
I originally purchased this home when my youngest son was a baby. It was a fixer-upper, and I did a great deal of the restoration myself, inside and out, including the landscaping. As a single mother, I brought up my two boys here. Now that they are in college, I spend more of my time in Alaska, where I was born and raised. I'm a commercial fisherman and a self-taught, self-supporting artist. My winters are spent sculpting in my Alaska studio, summers spent commercial fishing for salmon and halibut. If you are ever looking for an exceptional Alaska experience, you may be interested in my hand-crafted Alaska beach rentals, located on a mile long sandy beach. Why Kristi McLean chose Mission Hills
This is a historically designated house with an amazing art collection and gorgeous antique furniture. I won a design award for the master bathroom. This home was constructed in 1917 from old growth timber. The detail in the craftsmanship is unmatched. This house is an extremely quiet place to spend time because of its lath and plaster walls. This private oasis is just three turns from either I-8 & I-5. It is also minutes from beaches, Sea World, Downtown, Old Town, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo.
What makes this House unique
The Mission Hills neighborhood is full of historic charm. With a deli & wine room, boutiques, yoga studios, coffee shops, delicious restaurants, and two historical parks (Presidio & Pioneer), you may never want to leave our friendly uptown district during your visit to San Diego.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
We comfortably enjoyed 5 days in this home with 5 people. Such a beautiful, safe neighborhood. House was well stocked and clean.
Beautiful Home - Great Area!
We can’t say enough good things about Kristi’s home. If you are considering booking, don’t hesitate. The home is located in a great area of San Diego. The neighborhood is upscale, beautiful and very safe. In addition it is extremely convenient to get anywhere you need to go from shopping, dining, sight seeing, the airport, etc. For the majority of our two week visit we used Lyft/Uber. During the second week we rented a car and there was parking in the driveway and plenty of safe and secure street parking. The neighbors in the area were very nice and friendly. We felt right at home and did not want to leave. The home is a beautiful, well cared for property with everything you need to feel right at home. The only improvement I might mention is for some more prompt communication. Although it was sufficient there were some time when we had to wait for replies and had the wrong contact information initially. This did not hamper our experience and was justified seeing Kristi was in Alaska. Overall this was a 5 + star experience and working with Kristi and Lachlan was great. When our travels bring us back to San Diego we will inquire with Kristi first before looking elsewhere. Don’t hesitate… Book!
A cozy home base for your stay in San Diego
This lovely home was a terrific place to stay. We were warmly greeted by Roslyn who gave us great input about the area that really helped us during our time in San Diego. The home is well maintained and has very nice outdoor seating arrangements. The bedrooms are quite comfortable and of a good size. It is pleasantly situated in a good neighborhood, and is within easy distance of restaurants should you choose to dine out. We were out for a graduation with other family members and all of us enjoyed our time immensely. This home made for a great place to really relax and enjoy one another in a far more cozy environment than a hotel.
Beautiful property, wonderful owner's representative, perfect location.
From the moment we arrived, to the moment we departed, we enjoyed this home immensely. It is beautiful, quiet, clean, spacious and very well outfitted. The entire property, inside and out, is comfortable and there is stunning and interesting art throughout, including the outdoor spaces.
Thank you to the owner and to her representative, Lachlan, for a seamless transaction and a wonderful stay.
Lovely house, cool neighborhood, awesome stay
This house is.beautifully designed, and feels bigger. Having the guest house worked well for giving ample bed and bath space for each family member. An improvement to the guest house would be air conditioning,, as it was hot in August. The main house was comfortable. The master bath is stunning -- I took pictures for our upcoming remodel at home! The kitchen is user friendly. The backyard is charming, and we enjoyed having our morning coffee on the porch and enjoying the cool neighborhood and view down to the city below. The location was awesome, and all.our interactions with the owner were good. Thanks for sharing your home!
A very special house!
This house is very special, our most favourite house of all the ones we stayed in California. The whole layout of the house suited us perfectly, even though we thought when we arrived (at 2:30am after a hellish time getting out of LAX) that the house only had three bedrooms! Don't worry, there is a fourth in perfect little annex in the back garden, which we thought we might bag, before one of our teenage sons placed his bag on the bed and said, this is mine!
The house is filled with lovely furniture, decoration and most impressively, fantastic artwork made by the owner. There are some really amazing pieces around the house, and they all seem to fit perfectly in place with everything.
Basic things like comfy beds, hot water, good showers, well provisioned kitchen, all add to the feeling of making it your own home.
Location is really good, about midway between downtown and the beaches. If you're off to Seaworld, it's about a 20 min drive away. We went to Pacific beach, and it was really fabulous. The Old Town area is only a short car drive (down some fairly steep hills, so would be a walk of about 20 mins?) and is fascinating to wander round. Also, really good food here too, Fred's was particularly exciting to eat at!
Also, a fairly large shopping area is close by too, with a Target, Ralphs, and clothes shops close by. Broken Yolk was excellent for our first breakfast, and if you like BBQ / burgers / ribs, etc. Phils BBQ is essential for you to visit. Be prepared to wait in a queue though, it is very popular!
We could have spent much more time here in San Diego, and staying in Kristi's house for longer would have been wonderful - many thanks for squeezing us in at short notice!
