Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms with a loft in this cottage and boathouse combination.

This Muskoka beauty is the ideal spot for your vacation needs. The view from atop a large granite rock from the large L shaped deck of the cottage that overlooks Muskoka Lake is breathtaking. The cottage and boathouse combination rental was remodeled in 2012 and has all that you're looking for in a vacation spot in Cottage Country! The 3 bedroom cottage is located near the Acton Island Bridge high on a ridge with a perfect view of the bay. Access to the cottage and boathouse is by car, NO BOAT OR FERRY NEEDED. AGAIN, THE PROPERTY IS ACCESSIBLE BY CAR. The adjacent boathouse included in the rental has that perfect right by the water feel. With the boathouse loft and full bathroom, guests can have an additional living quarters that can't be matched!

The cottage has 3 bedrooms:

-Queen Sized Bed

-2 Twin Beds

-Bunk Beds (2 twins)

-Loft (In cottage with bed/futon up top in boathouse).

It could sleep 10, but only 8 in beds or futons. Blow up mattresses or using the two futons accounts for the additional 2 people.

Moreover, the cottage has a fully functioning kitchen with all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware needed. A fireplace and Satellite TV is also included in the rental. A washer and dryer are included with the rental.

The large 'L shaped' deck allows for a great view of the lake. There is a patio set and chairs for viewing. In addition, we have a propane barbecue grill on the deck.

A second deck is on the other side of the cottage off of the bunk bedroom.

The boathouse has a loft with sleeping availability above. The boathouse also has a full bath and mini kitchen area (sink, microwave, mini fridge). If you're renting during colder weather, I'd like to point out that the boathouse doesn't have heat. You may use a space heater though. We do have heat in the cottage.

The dock with swimming ladder right by the water allows for easy access for swimming.

We also have a floating dock included with the rental. It has a ladder for ease to enter/exit the water from the floating dock.

Included in the rental are 2 boats: kayak and rowboat.

This cottage/boathouse combination rental is close to Bala by car or boat (10 minutes). It is also not far from Port Carling (15 minutes by car). Shopping and sight seeing are a must in these two nearby towns.

The price during peak season is $3,500/week+$200 (cleaning and mgrs. fee). This is in Canadian funds. A pet can be arranged, but is an additional $200/week. Also, a $200 fee will be added to your payment if paying via the on-line method offered by VRBO. VRBO charges us a credit card fee and we pass that fee along to you. VRBO also charges an additional service fee that is paid directly to them and not to us through VRBO/credit card payments.

VRBO cancellation policy is not accepted by or binding on the owner. If You cancel, any time up until the date which is eight weeks prior to the Check In Date, we will retain $1,000 to cover costs. If you terminate on a date which is less than eight weeks before your Check In Date, the entire amount you have paid to us will be kept by us unless we are able to find a subsequent occupant at the same rate.

About Tom Clarkson

Even though I stated it was purchased in 2012, it was remodeled at that time, but originally owned by my grandparents and has been in the family since the early 1930's. In fact, my parents honeymooned in the boathouse in the 1940's!

Tom Clarkson purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Tom Clarkson chose Bala

This property obviously has sentimental value because it's been in the family for so long. You'll get that special feel once you enter.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is very special because you can enjoy the best place in the world, Muskoka!

Sunset Paddling, Not To Be Missed!

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a week at Thomas' cottage and we are already missing it!

We arrived on a rainy afternoon and were able to find enough dry wood for a crackling fire. The cottage was super cozy as we barbecued. Foodland had beautiful tomahawk steaks on sale so we indulged and had a lovely dinner as we settled in.

We were fortunate to have multiple days of sunshine without a lot of boat traffic so we paddled in the canoe most afternoons and evenings. We even took a 12 km trip one day. We both love being on the water so it was perfect. The cottage faces the sunrise and we really wanted to get up early enough for a morning paddle, but that was apparently too ambitious.

The Boathouse is really cute and great to hang out at and swim from. Had my teenage daughter been able to come with us it would have been a perfect place for her and a friend to claim as their own.

We went hunting for movie rentals one day and found a good selection at Foodland. But, had we found the General Store just down the highway we would have stocked up there. Lots of choices!

Cooking at the cottage was great - the kitchen is well supplied with pots and pans and utensils for a crowd. There is plenty of seating inside, as well as outside where we took in the beautiful views of the lake.

Our absolute favorite memory from this past week was one evening when we went canoeing. We happened to look at the map and found a little inlet called "Sunset Bay" about 1.5 km away. We set off around 7:30pm and then just floated in the middle of the quiet bay, absorbing the most beautiful slow, colorful setting sun and basking in the glow. We paddled back under the dimming pasteled sky and got home before dark. We wished we could have done this several times more during our trip but storms prevented that. I tweeted a pic and it was even picked up by the local news.

I highly recommend staying at Thomas' beautiful cottage. The proximity to Port Carling is wonderful and it's a great place to explore the lake from. The only reasons we gave this a four rather than a five was we felt the master bedroom mattress was a bit uncomfortable. (That said the view from the bedroom is great!) Also we would have loved some Muskoka chairs and recliners rather than the deck chairs. But these are minor complaints. We loved our stay and created some exceptional memories here.

You should go, and don't miss a paddle to Sunset Bay. It will make your evening!

Nicely equipped cottage with a spectacular view.

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed the cottage with adult children as visitors. Lots of sleeping options for a group. Swim dock and canoe were well used. The dock accommodated our rental boat too. The view from the open concept cottage was beautiful. Lots of towels and cooking tools. The close proximity to Bala & Pt. Carling was good for groceries and visiting the local shops.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage as a surprise for my boyfriend for his birthday and it was such a great time! Tom was flexible with providing different check out options, always responded to messages promptly and was super friendly. The cottage is perfect for a getaway weekend, we used the barbecue a lot and hung out on the patio. The boathouse was perfect for us to stay in while friends stayed in the main cottage - felt like we had two separate cottages! Would definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Thanks so much for everything Tom!

Great place for family to relax and rejuvenate

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time here with my family. The cottage is nice and clean and certainly large enough for my family but the best part is boat house where we spent most of our days
