About the property

3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms with a loft in this cottage and boathouse combination.

This Muskoka beauty is the ideal spot for your vacation needs. The view from atop a large granite rock from the large L shaped deck of the cottage that overlooks Muskoka Lake is breathtaking. The cottage and boathouse combination rental was remodeled in 2012 and has all that you're looking for in a vacation spot in Cottage Country! The 3 bedroom cottage is located near the Acton Island Bridge high on a ridge with a perfect view of the bay. Access to the cottage and boathouse is by car, NO BOAT OR FERRY NEEDED. AGAIN, THE PROPERTY IS ACCESSIBLE BY CAR. The adjacent boathouse included in the rental has that perfect right by the water feel. With the boathouse loft and full bathroom, guests can have an additional living quarters that can't be matched!

The cottage has 3 bedrooms:

-King Sized Bed

-2 Twin Beds

-Bunk Beds (2 twins)

Moreover, the cottage has a fully functioning kitchen with all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware needed. A fireplace and Satellite TV is also included in the rental. A washer and dryer are included with the rental.

The large 'L shaped' deck allows for a great view of the lake. There is a patio set and chairs for viewing. In addition, we have a propane barbecue grill on the deck.

A second deck is on the other side of the cottage off of the bunk bedroom.

The boathouse has a loft with sleeping availability above. The boathouse also has a full bath and mini kitchen area (sink, microwave, mini fridge). If you're renting during colder weather, I'd like to point out that the boathouse doesn't have heat. You may use a space heater though. We do have heat in the cottage.

The dock with swimming ladder right by the water allows for easy access for swimming.

We also have a floating dock included with the rental. It has a ladder for ease to enter/exit the water from the floating dock.

Included in the rental are 3 boats: kayak, canoe, and rowboat.

This cottage/boathouse combination rental is close to Bala by car or boat (10 minutes). It is also not far from Port Carling (15 minutes by car). Shopping and sight seeing are a must in these two nearby towns.

The price during peak season is $3,400/week+$150 (cleaning and mgrs. fee). This is in Canadian funds. A pet can be arranged, but is an additional $150/week. Also, a $200 fee will be added to your payment if paying via the on-line method offered by VRBO. VRBO charges us a fee and we pass that along to you. The other type of payment can be made by electronic transfer avoiding that fee. VRBO also charges an additional service fee that is paid directly to them and not to us through VRBO/credit card payments.

VRBO cancellation policy is not accepted by or binding on the owner. If You cancel, any time up until the date which is eight weeks prior to the Check In Date, we will retain $1,000 to cover costs. If you terminate on a date which is less than eight weeks before your Check In Date, the entire amount you have paid to us will be kept by us unless we are able to find a subsequent occupant at the same rate.

About Tom Clarkson

Even though I stated it was purchased in 2012, it was remodeled at that time, but originally owned by my grandparents and has been in the family since the early 1930's. In fact, my parents honeymooned in the boathouse in the 1940's!

Tom Clarkson purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Tom Clarkson chose Muskoka Lakes Township

This property obviously has sentimental value because it's been in the family for so long. You'll get that special feel once you enter.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is very special because you can enjoy the best place in the world, Muskoka!

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage as a surprise for my boyfriend for his birthday and it was such a great time! Tom was flexible with providing different check out options, always responded to messages promptly and was super friendly. The cottage is perfect for a getaway weekend, we used the barbecue a lot and hung out on the patio. The boathouse was perfect for us to stay in while friends stayed in the main cottage - felt like we had two separate cottages! Would definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Thanks so much for everything Tom!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time here with my family. The cottage is nice and clean and certainly large enough for my family but the best part is boat house where we spent most of our days

Acton Island Gem

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with 10 girls for three nights. The cottage itself was very well kept, and the boathouse was beautiful, with the wonderful aroma of pine inside. All kitchen equipment was provided and it slept the 10 of us perfectly. The bonfire spot was conveniently located and stocked with wood for our visit. The sun was best on the upper deck and dock until mid afternoon, when it became quite shaded. There was, however, a lovely floating dock, where the sun lasted well into the evening. My only complaint was that the hot water in the main cottage was not working. The owner did contact me about this, but the property manager failed to have a plumber come and fix the problem while we were there. The upside was that the boathouse had a separate hot water tank and everyone could shower there. I would definitely rent this property again, and loved the close proximity to both Bala and Port Carling.

Owner's Response: I'm so happy they enjoyed their stay and want to return. We are sorry about the water heater. We make every effort to keep our property in good repair. The hot water heater problem was not anticipated. When we learned of the problem, we immediately contacted several plumbers. However, due to the fact that they all had commitments (getting into peak of the season, many cottage construction jobs), they could not attend to the problem as promptly as we asked them to. As the guest indicates, hot water and a shower was always available in the separate boathouse. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this unforeseen issue caused. We'd be happy to have them return in the future!

Peaceful + Spacious + location + Nature + Fishing + Swimming + Tanning = Perfect Muskoka Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most lovely weekend at this property on Acton Lake in Bala, ON. You really do feel like you're "nestled in" to the woods and we were blown away by the lake view and the sunrise! The open concept kitchen/living room was so cozy and had all the comforts of home. We cooked delicious meals, enjoyed indoor and outdoor eating and also really loved the incredible boathouse! The bedrooms are each lovely and unique and we slept so well! We put the deck and BBQ to great use, as well as the fire pit and comfy chairs.

The property was excellent on all counts. We had an ideal amount of personal space along with our time together. The highlight is, of course, being right on the water of Acton Lake. The shallow waters make swimming very enjoyable for all ages. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. There were no short falls with every day necessities. Linens and towels are new and fresh, and the decorating inside is beautiful. The cottage was very clean upon arrival. I personally loved the Boat House as it has its own private deck, fully equipped washroom, kitchenette, sofa bed, dinning table, and it's own bed on the upper floor. We enjoyed countless hours in the boat house, dock and canoeing. If it was warmer, we would have swam! Thank you for a wonderful weekend. This was the most beautiful cottage we've ever been to. It was truly a stress free weekend. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our weekend and can't wait to return!

Immaculate cottage !

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable long weekend stay at this absolutely beautiful cottage. 'Cozy' would be the right word to describe it in one word. The boat house adds more beauty to it's charm. The floating dock was a nice addition. The kitchen is fully loaded and has all and more than what you would need. I personally loved the view of lake from one side and the woods from other in the family room. We enjoyed having our meals at the boat house, at the formal dining and patio. Loved the little personal hand written note from the owners lying on the table as soon as we entered. The owner was very responsive to all our questions, readily available, and a pleasure to deal with. We would highly recommend this cottage and would definitely go back !
