About Beth Jackson

Our family has long roots in the area. We live across the Lake and make our living farming and raising steer. We love the outdoors and know all the secret hunting and fishing spots in the area.

Beth Jackson purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Beth Jackson chose Fremont

As we farm, our job is seven days a week. We wanted a property close where we could actually get to more than twice a year. It has all the year round hunting/fishing benefits of 'up North'. In the summer it is a dream vacation. Plenty of space right on the water.

What makes this cottage unique

Views, views, views. We are surrounded by water. You never want to leave. But when you do you are walking distance to restaurants and the local boat launch. A ten minute drive will get you to other small towns with shops, restaurants and entertainment.

Great home base for a fishing trip

  • 4 of 5

Weather was rainy and very windy, so we fished from shore in the channel on the east side of the property. Caught 9 different species of fish which made for a great dinner. Considering returning next year with our sons.

Beautiful Location & Great Customer Service

  • 4 of 5

This is a charming cottage in a beautiful location. We had a bridal shower here with a group ranging in age from 22 to 92. The place is bigger on the inside than it looks and came equipped with all appliances, utensils, and bedding that we needed. We came after dark and had some issues getting in because there were no instructions with an access code to get in. This was not the owner's fault, but a glitch with the VRBO website and the way they communicated that day. After calling the owner, she was happy to give us the code and we were on our way to a great weekend. We got there after dark, and the bride took a nasty fall on a concrete stair because there were no outside lights on the path around the house. That was partially our fault for not having a flashlight handy when we arrived but a few decorative solar lights would have prevented that issue altogether. I am giving this property 4 stars instead of 5 only because we weren't able to sleep in in the mornings due to not having curtains or blinds in the bedrooms. The windows are high enough up that people can't look in, but window coverings of some sort in the two bedrooms would have really made the mornings much nicer for us. Over all though, the view was amazing, the weekend was enjoyable, and the memories we made as we celebrated a beautiful bride's big day were incredible. Thank you for allowing us to have a great weekend.

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

My brother and I took 3 kids for a long weekend to do some fishing on Lake Poygan. We loved everything about this place and so did the kids. The landing is super close which is great. The home has two TV's in separate areas so kids can watch what they want while we can watch on the other. Wind was really bad one day on lake so we just hung out by home and fished in canal and off the bridge. Caught a bunch of sheephead, catfish, bluegill, perch etc.. which the kids loved. The grounds feel private and had a great area to hang by the fire. Can't think of one negative. We had 3 kids all between 6-9 and was a great time.

Relaxing stay but cottage could use some updating

  • 3 of 5

The property is beautiful. Conveniently located near a public boat launch on Lake Poygan, you can be on the water in minutes.

The owner didn't send access information like planned and I had to contact her to get into the rental. Once we arrived we learned from the house rules on the fridge that we were required to dispose of our garbage in the garage before leaving, as well as strip the bed linens and put them and all used towels in the laundry room. This is a bit of a pain, especially when on vacation.

Our boat did not fit under the bridge to enter the channel, so we were not able to secure it to the dock. I asked about this before renting and the owner said it would fit perfectly.

The cottage is just okay. There is a lot of room to spread out and can accommodate a lot of people, but the furniture wasn't very comfortable and could use some updating. Also, with one small bathroom I can't imagine it would be very pleasant to share the cottage with a large group.

Overall my husband and I had a nice, relaxing time and enjoyed the cottage, but I'm not sure it was worth the rental price and high property damage fee. Especially considering the cleanup we were required to do before leaving.

Owner's Response: We've never had anyone have an issue with putting the garbage outside or putting used sheets in the laundry room. We don't ask for renters to wash the sheets or take garbage to the dump. Many rentals do not even provide sheets/towels. Further, the damage fee is something opted for on the website. We can't control that part. We don't require it. We usually use a refundable deposit however some guests use the insurance. That is something out of our control. We've never kept a damage deposit. As for the boat, we explain to every renter that only low profile boats fit underneath, I can't guarantee anything without actually being in the boat and that always depends on the water height which really does change depending on the rain as well as the dams in the Fox River.

Awesome cabin

  • 5 of 5

Me and 6 of my buddies stayed at this cabin over the winter to go ice fishing on Poygan. The location was great, within a short walking distance to a really fun bar in Tustin. Also it only takes about 20 minutes to get to the other side of the lake where there's a few more attractions. As for the cabin, it was actually better than the pictures depict. Even though it is a 2 bedroom cottage, we comfortably slept 7 people without doubling up in any bed. Beth was really awesome about letting us check in a little early too which allowed us to get an early jump on ice fishing.
