Nice house, but with some issues

  • 2 of 5

Overall the house was large and comfortable and the common areas were great for our group. The mountain is beautiful and secluded and we enjoyed seeing the wildlife on our drives up and down.

First the small things renters should know:

1) Most bedrooms don't have closets or drawers to unpack into.

2) Towels were old and coarse.

3) Mattresses were old (with lumpy springs).

4) There were only enough dishwasher pods for 4 runs of the dishwasher. For a large group staying 4 nights, this wasn't enough and we ended up handwashing a lot of dishes after we discovered this too late.

These all fall under the "no big deal" category in my book but may annoy some.

One major issue was that AWD vehicles are an absolute necessity to get up to the house in winter. In fact there are two signs on the mountain that clearly state "4WD and tire chains required", and locals we had bumped into on the mountain ALL told us that they recommended tire chains. This was neither communicated to us by the property manager nor clearly indicated in the listing. When I called the property manager to complain he told me that it was clearly written in the listing and it was my fault for missing it. I apologized for my *mistake* and left it at that. However, when reviewing the listing again before this review, I found that this information is NOT in the listing, but rather buried in the reviews. That's not good enough, I'm afraid. This is essential information and should have been clearly communicated. Particularly because we were out of towners and renting multiple SUVs with AWD cost us an additional $70 per day per car which adds up quickly, and would have significantly influenced our choice of rental. $70*5 cars = $350 a night extra which is a significant consideration.

Having said all of that, when we got a big dump of snow on the first day, the property manager did arrange for the driveway to be cleared with a snowblower, which we were thankful for because of the amount of snow we got.

Great location.

  • 4 of 5

The location is beautiful. The cabin is in great shape on the inside and was very comfortable and large enough for our family of 18.

A couple of small items that we discussed with the owner.

My family and I would recommend this cabin to others looking for a mountain get away.

Great open space with a lot of room. Beautiful setting and privacy.

  • 4 of 5

I have used this location 4-5 times and really enjoyed my stay. There is plenty of room and lots of sleeping space (beds). The location is close enough to Park City (10-15 minutes) but feels very private. The surroundings are beautiful. The cabin was clean and well maintained. The only setback is that the cabin is about 4-5 miles up a dirt road, which can be tricky in the winter months. During the Spring, Summer and Fall it is easily accessible.

Nice cabin for our large family

  • 3 of 5

This is a nice property and it accommodated our entire family of 24 well. We liked that the location was close to Park City but still off the beaten path. Justin responded quickly to any and all questions we had about the property. The cabin offered plenty of space and sleeping for our large family and the hot tub was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the cabin was not adequately supplied for a large group staying five nights. We had to supplement toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, dish and dishwasher soap. We had to purchase a broom and a mop to use while at the cabin - none were supplied. This cabin has been well used and is a little run down. You will need a LOT of quarters for the washer and dryer and the arcade game in the game room requires quarters as well. The pool table was broken and unusable and several balls were missing. The scurrying mice in the basement unfortunately kept some of our guests awake at night. The kitchen was quite well stocked except for cleaning supplies but we did have plenty of towels.

Owner's Response: First Ill respond to the part in this review about my property being run down. This guest was the last group of the season and they did experience the bulk of the wear on carpets, paint, window screens, anything that takes days to repair. Its just too busy. That being said, I will challenge anyone to find a cleaner VRBO Cabin. My housekeeper is the very best, sometimes only having 4 hours to clean up after 26 people and I never get a complaint from guests. I also know she leaves lots of towels, 1 roll of TP for each day in every bathroom and a few rolls of Paper towels. I think its weird that this group went through so much TP. Quarters: I started putting coin op things in the place a few years ago to get my step kids involved and interested in the business. Everything is set as liberally as possible. However a few groups have complained about the laundry which is why I will leave out some quarters to help with that. We make about 50 bucks a season in quarters, so I'm not sure where "alot of quarters" are going... lol. But yes, please bring quarters. Pool Table: The poor pool table really had a bad summer. It was moved several times, The ends broke off, pockets torn and felt torn and stained. Not to mention holes in my ceiling from pool cues. I'm more shocked than anyone that this is an issue. Pool table gone. We have air hockey now. The Scurrying mice: 3 of them are blind so they need to scurry more than the rest. This one is difficult because as with any house in the forest, if the doors are left open or there are goodies spilled and trash everywhere then you will have pests. Keep a clean camp folks and critters will leave you alone. We lived in this house for years with very few issues of mice. I will start posting guest reviews and pics when the deck is covered in grease from the BBQ and trash is ground into the deck tracks. All in all, this guest was particularly difficult and became very defensive when I took some of her deposit to help pay for my dishwasher that was damaged during their stay, so I believe her tone on this review is negative enough to cost me some bookings.

A very nice cabin. Peaceful and relaxing. Fun to watch the deer and chipmunks. Would recommend it to any group or family wanting to get away from it all. Thank you.
