MOST AMAZING RETREAT!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I drove the entire CA coast with a lot of stops along the way, and this retreat in Big Sur was by far our favorite. The beauty of both the cabin and bath house will blow you away with the succulents, red wood trees, and incredible views. Peggy even mailed us back some items we accidentally left at no charge! Highly recommend!

Spectacular. Amazing. Magical.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you step out of your vehicle, you will be struck with how magical and unique this beautiful property is. Artfully, brightly colored succulents give the grounds the feeling of a resort. But this place goes beyond resort. It is, without parallel, a retreat. The blue, sparkling Pacific Ocean stretches before you, which you can enjoy from your perch of the two comfy chairs situated in the clearing in front of the bathhouse or from the bathhouse itself (you have not lived until you’ve taken a hot bubble bath with Pacific Ocean views). The biggest surprise? Walking the few steps to the cabin itself, situated in a towering redwood grove, nestled amongst the ferns and basking in the coolness the trees’ shade provides. It was approximately 80 degrees on the sunny section of the property, but at the cabin, it was at least 15 degrees cooler (just perfect). The best part? The waterfall tumbling down the hillside just off deck and provided the sweetest soundtrack for reading, writing, sketching, and the best darn night of sleep we have had in years. Speaking of night, the skies above the property were so incredibly dark you feel as though you can reach out and touch the stars. The cabin itself is great-well appointed. The bed comfy, the kitchenette a great place to prepare a small meal. Although the bathhouse is a few steps above the cabin, there is a toilet so that you can avoid having to walk outside in the dark. Our only regret about this place is that we left it at all (to visit Hearst Castle). This sweet little cabin at the edge of the woods and the ocean was more inspiring than all the giant estates in the world. That’s my suggestion if you choose to book this place. Stay. There is no need to leave for sightseeing once you’re here. Everything good is here. Watch the lizards doing push-ups. The squirrels playing with one another and scrapping with the stellar jays. The coastal fog slowly moving over the surface of the cold ocean. The sun sinking majestically into the ocean. A meteor streaking across the dark sky (yes! I even witnessed one of these). We have stayed at many rental vacation homes, around the world. London. Paris. Amsterdam. Up and down the California coast. Nothing beats this place.

A unique place.

  • 3 of 5

A rustic but comfortable little cabin in a spectacular setting. Unfortunately there were mud slides to the north and south of the place and Highway 1 was closed to through traffic. We were able to get access (the owner's daughter met us at the south end roadblock) but we couldn't go in and out without an escort and that meant we were not able to see much of the Big Sur coast, eat out at any restaurants or visit San Simeon which we had planned to do. It was disappointing in that regard but still, all in all, not a bad place to be stuck for a few days. The horses were entertaining. The garden is filled with interesting plants. The kitchen is minimal which is more of an issue if you can't access restaurants for a good dinner. I think this would be a perfect place for a single writer/artist/ musician who wants to hole up in a beautiful and quiet setting to get some work done.
