1. Lake water level--We cannot control the water level of the lake. It is controlled by the Army Corp of engineers. During the Spring and Summer, the water from Detroit Lake has multiple purposes including Recreation, fish habitat, as well as irrigation and drinking water for communities down stream. In the winter, Detroit Lake is used as a reservoir for flood control. Normally, Detroit Lake is at it's fullest in May and June and the Corp slowly lowers the level of the water level over the summer until it readies the Lake for the winter precipitation.
2. Cable or Satellite TV-- Unfortunately, cable TV is not offered in the mountain town of Detroit and due to the location of the property, we have been unsuccessful obtaining proper satellite connection. Therefore, we do offer a variety of DVDs, board games and puzzles for family entertainment. There is also DVD rental available at the gas station across the highway.
3. Wifi--we do not have wifi. There is a cell tower in the middle of town giving excellent coverage.
4. WE DO NOT PROVIDE: firewood, Beach towels, bikes, boats, kayaks, canoes or a dock. Docks are not allowed on Detroit Lake, but you can buoy your boat in front of the cabin or rent a slip in the marina 100 yards away. You also can either buy or rent the other items in town or you can bring them with you.

Beautiful Lake house
We had a wonderful stay at Lake Detroit. The homeowner was available for advice on places to go nearby. The home is stocked with great games for inside and out. The kitchen was loaded with supplies and we had everything we needed for a nice picnic at Hoover Flat. Our next visit to Lake Detroit won't include a total eclipse, but we will love visiting this beautiful part of Oregon anyway!
Great lake house - accommodated all of our friends for two days in August. Just got home - amazing house, location, amenities, and RIGHT ON THE LAKE! Perfect for us with our speed boat.
Great Family Getaway!
Our family of 12 had the best family vacation together we have ever had due, in large part, to the excellent features and location of this lakeside home. There was plenty of room for everyone. The house was clean and well stocked with supplies, our 5 grandkids had lots of room to play and explore, the large deck, large barbeque and two fire pit areas made meals and evening campfires convenient, carefree and fun. The views of the lake; the close access to the lake for boating, fishing, rafting, paddle boarding, and swimming; the ability to anchor our boat near the lake shore below the house; the abundant shade from nearby trees; and nearby stores and marinas all made it a fantastic place for all of us. We hope to return again next summer and have many more memorable moments.
Thank you for your kind words and gracious review. So glad you and your family had a fun vacation. you and your family are welcome back any time. take care.
A bit too much money
It is a nice house with great view right on the water. It is stocked full of everything you need for large parties. I thought overall it is overpriced for what it offers. The flow of the house is great. Everything works (we did not use the window air conditioner). The views and sunshine are wonderful. For the price, I would expect more though. The carpets were dirty and house smelled. The furniture is uncomfortable and worn quite a bit. The neighbors are close and are campers- which was not a bother. There are no kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or lake toys or towels for the lake. For some reason, I thought it had a deck from one of the pictures, but it does not. I think the price maybe good for large parties that can split, but for parties under 5 I feel it is overpriced. There is a place to rent lake toys and boats. All electronics were functionable. We brought our own internet and movies as cable and internet were not available. We had nice days and evenings at the fire pit. If we had a choice to rent it again, we still would do it. We wanted to be right on the lake. Thanks for sharing your home.
The rental rate is based on location and capacity. The cabin is perfect for large or multiple families, but we have had many small groups who rent our cabin regardless because they love the ideal setting. There is none better in Detroit.
Every guest receives a complementary bottle of wine upon arrival, as well as, amenities like hotel soap/shampoo/conditioner for each bathroom. We trust those reading this will see the value in our cabin and we suggest looking at our happy 5 star guest reviews as a comparison to this.
The neighbors, who we love dearly and consider our family, have family camping lots which have been in their family for over 50 years and have been grandfathered in to allow this continued use, until such time as, they sell or build their own house.
The furniture is cabin friendly and has offered many friends, family, and guests peaceful naps and i have had several people comment on how comfortable it is, but apologize it was not to your liking.
The carpets were cleaned on July 6th, the day these guests left (with receipts to prove it). We have regularly scheduled carpet cleanings due to guests tracking in "the lake" and soiling the carpet. We always ask people to contact us if the house is not to their satisfaction upon arrival but heard nothing until this review. Our cleaning service makes every effort to keep the carpets as clean as possible between regularly scheduled maintenance.
Detroit Lake is located on the "wet" side of the moutains in Oregon where moss grows on everything and the smell of wet forest abounds. To some, this is refreshing, others not as much. I suspect this is the "smell" the guest is referring to but without specifics, i can only speculate.
Yes, We do not provide lake toys or lake towels. This is addressed on the listing and discussed when i call guests prior to accepting the reservation. There is places in town to rent lake toys and buy beach towels if you did not bring them. We do offer multiple yard toys, yard games, DVDs, and family games. We also have a play structure for families with children. Finally, the 2 firepits we have offer hours of family bonding and smores cooking.
We do have a DECK...a large one with a beautiful view, 3 picnic tables and a BBQ. I suspect this guest meant, DOCK. Permanent docks are not allowed on Detroit Lake. Guests are welcome to buoy your boat near the shore in front of the house, as seen in the listing.
Good luck and best wishes.
Couldn't have asked for a better location, location, location
Spent an awesome 3 days with my 2 children, 4 grand children, and 3 great grand children. There was plenty for all 4 generations to indulge in and enjoy. Loved the location, the house, the amenities, and the outdoors.
Best family vacation spot ever....
So glad you had a great time. Thanks fior coming back. Hope to see you again next year. Cheers
Detroit Lake is the #1 in Oregon for water sports. It offers a beautiful backdrop to create memories for a lifetime.
