Planned during the 50's and established in 1960, Brasília is a tourist attraction itself. World famous architect Oscar Niemyer, who passed away in December 2012, at 102, gave a unique approach regarding to urban planning. Unlike other Brazilian cities, you'll find cardinal references for blocks, grouped according to their intended use, i.e., residential, commerce, hotels, industry, supermarkets etc. Architecture pieces of art been actually used as offices, libraries, churches may sound quite interesting, and it really is. I would say the must see list is comprised of 'Catedral Metropolitana' (Metropolitan Cathedral), 'Congresso Nacional' (National Congress), 'Palácio da Alvorada' (President's House), 'Palácio do Planalto' (President's place of work), 'Templo da Boa Vontade' (Goodwill Temple), 'Santuário Dom Bosco' (Dom Bosco's Sanctuary), 'Ponte JK' (JK Bridge, named after former President Juscelino Kubistcheck). Most of them are less than 15 minutes drive from the apartment. Traffic organization is pretty fare, making this city suitable for foreign drivers. In fact, there are many of them, because Brasília hosts the majority of Foreign Government Embassies. As a relatively new town and concentrating Political activities, Federal buildings, Brasília is a true mix of every country's corner culture. You can witness that while savoring a welcomed variety of regional cuisines, from the southern 'rodizio' to 'Pirarucu' (fish) from the Amazon region. For those interested in more spiritual activities, Brasília is also known by its mysticism. The 'Sunrising Valley' (Vale do Amanhecer) is an example of that, but nothing like Oprah's recent visit to Abadiânia, a small town located less than two hours driving from the resort, just to know 'John of God', to illustrate what we are talking about. But we think many visitors will be interested in the soccer World Cup, especially in 2014. Brasília will see more matches than any other host town, on June 15, 19, 23, 26 and 30. Then you can see one of the quarter finals match on July 5 and finally the third place dispute on July the 12th. The stadium is just 5.6 miles away from the resort. Nearby the stadium you can see and buy local hand made craft work, gems, regional stones. Still close to those is a leisure park - 'Parque da Cidade', where you can run, exercise, ride a bike or practice roller skating among the locals. Going to the park is a popular outdoors activity. As Brasília is also the hometown of Nelson Piquet, a former Formula One World Champion, you can even enjoy a car race at 'Autódromo Nelson Piquet', depending on your schedule. Still feeling energized? Brasilia is considered to have very good options at night. If you like 'samba', go to 'Outro Calaf'. If you want world music, 'Villa Mix' is the place to be. Got thirsty? How about 'Beer Selection', where you can taste home brewed beers? If you like sports, Lake Paranoá hosts activities like diving, windsurf, sailing. Rapelling, mountain bike and hang-gliding are included in a long list of possibilities. If you like tracking, go to 'Parque Olhos D’Água', where you'll be surrounded by native fauna, flora. The more interested you get in nature the more excited you can be. Just drive 38 miles out of town and you'll reach 'Paraíso na Terra' (Paradise on Earth), in a city called Brazilândia. This unique ecological preserves has places for meditation, tracking, swimming, diving, vegetarian restaurants. Close to this preserves you can find 'Chapada Imperial', a private ecological preserves, full of regional wolves ('Lobo-Guará'), jaguars ('onças'), giant anteaters ('tamanduás-bandeira'), armadillos 'tatus-canastra'. Waterfalls, natural pools are also available for visitors. Reservations required. Other attractions surrounding Brasília include underground caves, river waterfalls, cristaline water natural lagoons, cascades, you name it. Welcome home. I really hope you enjoy Brasília. Have a great escape.

Notes:
There are many ways to know Brazil, as all large countries. Brasilia itself brings rich samples of every corner of the largest South American country. Mysticism, ecology, tracking, water skiing, boating, gliding, golfing are among the options for everybody. Fancy monuments, caverns, waterfalls, architecture, politicians, shopping malls, craft work, night life, historical and religious sites make the Nation's capital unique. In 2014 Brasilia will host more soccer World Cup games than any other Brazilian city. The Federal District's administration is working hard to show off all it's beauties, making your visit specially worthwhile.
