Kona Hale Pili is a craftsman's masterpiece and a modern adaptation of the traditional Hawaiian pili grass covered house. Originally constructed in 1972, Kona Hale Pili has been totally renovated and appointed with elegant wood and stone accents accommodating modern amenities and a environmentally conscious low voltage lighting system and point source hot water. Kona Hale Pili is comprised of three separate buildings with soaring vaulted ceilings that are centrally connected by an open air covered lanai. A open air uncovered lanai and lush tropical landscaping adjoin the central lanai. Located direct oceanfront at the north end of Kahaluu Bay, unobstructed views are offered from Kahaluu Beach to Kaiwi Point at the end of Kailua Bay. Enjoy watching the surfers at the Kahaluu surf break, reef fish and turtles, spinner dolphins and breaching whales, in season, and spectacular green flash sunsets. Kahaluu Bay is accessible adjacent to Kona Hale Pili for experienced water persons, or by an easy five minute walk to Kahaluu Beach. Kahaluu Bay is renowned for its plentiful tropical fish and green sea turtles. Kona Hale Pili is now available as a vacation rental.

Why Stephen and Joy Connor chose Keauhou
We have been vacationers and part time residents of Hawaii for over thirty years. Our travels have taken us to many beautiful tropical places, but Kona captivated us. We found Kona Hale Pili in need of some TLC and embarked on what has become a stewardship to return the property to a condition suitable for its unique location. We enjoyed the six year renovation journey creating a craftsman's dream. You will appreciate it when you see it.
What makes this House unique
Quite simply, the oceanfront location could not be created today due to building setbacks and zoning constraints.

Beautiful home, perfect location!
We just wrapped up a two-week stay in this beautiful, unique home. There were 4 adults and 1 child. The location is absolutely perfect. For the adults who were well versed in water activities, the rocks just out front were a perfect launching location for paddle boards and snorkeling, as well as a great fishing spot for all. It was fantastic to be able to have all of those activity options right out front without having to leave the house. One morning there was a large pod of dolphins out front, and even my 5 year old jumped right in to swim out to them. For those less sure of the water (me), there is a fantastic beach just a 5 min walk down the road. This was perhaps one of the best places I've ever snorkeled. We saw SO MANY different fish, my son exclaimed, "it's like a whole other world under there!".
The home is very well stocked with supplies and very well organized and labelled. The rooms are comfortable, and it was great to have essentially 2 master bathrooms (plus an extra regular bathroom). The home is open to the environment, so the only downside is getting used to the various sounds at night. With my son in another bedroom, it took me a couple of nights to trust that the noises were just (small) tree debris falling, and not some intruder out to get us :)
In addition to the great access to beaches, there is also a grocery store just a mile away, and costco is an easy drive away as well. A great thing to have to stock up on food.
The owners were very responsive and accommodating, and made sure we were prepared for the impending hurricane, which ended up weakening and just putting on a great wave show one night.
We hope to be back some day!
Although we explored the island during the day, we ate in every night because no restaurant can beat this view at sunset. The kitchen was well stocked. The sound of the waves from the master bedroom put us to sleep every night. The snorkeling right from the home was excellent, but it can be dangerous entering/exiting from the rocks off the lanai, depending on conditions. The owners responded immediately to a very minor maintenance issue during our stay. There were a couple evenings where it felt a little warm without AC, but with fans in the rooms we were still comfortable. This is by far one of the best places we have ever rented, and I would highly recommend it!
The open-air plan; teak, mahogany and lava rock building materials; and unobstructed ocean view is perfect for relaxing, entertaining and celebrating Hawaii. The well-appointed kitchen is spacious and beautiful. Bedrooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. It's close enough to Kona for a quick trip to town yet far enough away to feel totally connected with nature. Sitting on the patio, we saw more spinner dolphins than I have ever seen before. Kona Hale Pili is the best stay we've experienced in Kona -- a 5 star for certain!
Great time in the Keauhou home
We recently stayed in this home in Kailua-Kona. It was a great experience. The house is so unique and well appointed, the views are incredible and the location is perfect. The owners and their support staff were very responsive since our initial inquiry and the home was as beautiful as promised. Close to town, and within walking distance to one of the most popular snorkeling and surfing beaches in the area. Since parking can be challenging at local beaches being able to walk out your front door and just walk to a popular beach was a huge plus! The house had all of the daily needs, a great kitchen, laundry room, beach towels, ice chest, etc...We loved it and would recommend it to all.
Upscale home in a perfect location
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful, clean, well appointed home. The layout provides a wonderful open air feel, a bit of privacy for each of the bedrooms and a central kitchen/living room/lanai area for hanging out with your group. There is nothing between this home and the water. We loved the snorkeling accessed right off of the lava from our back yard and view of the surfers and outrigger canoes out in the distance.
The location was perfect for all of our day trips. The owners were easy to deal with and responsive without being hovering. We feel fortunate to have found this house for our stay.
Amazing house and great exeperience!
Stephen and Joy took care of everything! this house is unbelievable. The house has been beautifully decorated and appointed and has all of the necessities in order to have a pleasant stay, everything was in great working order. We look forward to coming back again soon!
Kona Hale Pili is a modern adaptation of the traditional Hawaiian house. Hawaiian open air living at its best with louvered windows. Air conditioning is not needed as the diurnal breeze from the ocean during the day and the mountains in the evening provide natural air circulation. Ceiling fans throughout provide gentle air circulation in the bedroom suites.
Spend a relaxing day with an unobstructed view of the ocean for exceptional dolphin and whale watching. You will also have the prime location for watching the surfers at the surf break.
Dining, groceries and shopping are all conveniently located nearby.
For experienced water persons only, the ocean is accessible from the adjacent lava point. Easy ocean access is available at Kahaluu Beach.
We look forward to welcoming you as our guests!
