Awesome get away...

  • 5 of 5

I can not say enough good things about the Sea Otter House and its owners. The entire process of working with the owner was great. What you see is truly what you get. The home was spotless and well cared for. The kitchen had everything we may have needed for our stay and the appliances are top of the line. The neighborhood is quiet and the location is perfect. We were in town for a wedding and we walked everywhere. There is plenty of off street parking which is not reflected in the pictures. The beds were great and everyone in our group was checking to see what brand of linens were on the bed. We all had a good laugh about that. The best thing I can say is that I can't wait to come back. I have stayed at several VRBO homes and this is my favorite. Don't hesitate....this is the house for you.

The perfect place in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin. The house is charming. The outside looks historic and beautiful while the inside has been updated and modernized. Everything you need is here, from the sharp knives, the grinder for our morning coffee, the comfortable beds, the stereo system for the TV and the grill on the patio. The 5 of us were very happy here. We walked to town and found great coffee shops and a wonderful book store- Bookworks. It reminded me of The Shop Around the Corner in "You've Got Mail". We also walked the short distance to Monterey, about 1/4 mile, to see Cannery Row and the Fisherman's Wharf. My son's girlfriend and I were tickled to see the restaurant at the wharf where scenes from "Big Little Lies" were filmed. We didn't make it to the Monterey Aquarium. I hope to visit one day on another trip. Another day we drove to Carmel and Big Sur. Garrapata Park was spectacular- the magnificent cliffs, the rocks, the colorful plants and the water. We spotted a sea otter just chillin in the waves.

The house was the perfect accommodation, the perfect location to town and the sights and we had a wonderful view of the ocean from the upstairs bedroom window. I highly recommend and I hope to revisit soon!

Ideal Monterey Getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Great property, tasteful renovation of an older home retained the original character while updating. Easy walking distance to Monterey Aquarium and Fishermen's Wharf, as well as the town of Pacific Grove's shops, galleries and restaurants. Quiet neighborhood, ample off-street parking. Monterey Bay is visible from the master bedroom.

Pacific Grove is on the tip of the scenic, tree-shrouded Monterey Peninsula with a rocky coastline. The quaint town is full of charm, grace, and beauty. Coastal Trail (3 1/2 blocks from the Sea Otter House) is an easy walk. The bay, with its rugged rocky shores and sandy beaches, will take your breath away. From the trail you can see seals swimming and sunning on the rocks. Many of them like to lounge about on the sandy beach in front of the Hopkins Marine Station. Otters play and nap among kelp beds off the shore. You might see pods of dolphins dancing in and out of the water just beyond the kelp. Whales and Orcas also are sometimes seen spotted jumping and sprouting in the distance.

Downtown Pacific Grove is charming with many cute shops, excellent restaurants and bakeries. Pavel's has delicious and unique pastries. La Crema's offers tasty tapas in its cozy rooms. The newly opened Jenini's serves modern dishes inspired by Spanish, North African, and Mediterranean flavors. The house-made pita bread and dipping sauce, and Moroccan lamb meatballs are must haves.

Pacific Grove is the base from which to explore the many nearby attractions. From the Sea Otter House you can walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row (0.7 miles; 12 minutes). The Sea Otter House is also only 1.6 miles to the Pacific Grove Gate of the scenic 17 Mile Drive, 2.3 miles to the historical downtown Monterey and Fisherman's Wharf, and 6.2 miles to the charming town of Carmel-by-the Sea. Drive down Highway 1 to see the stunning coastline of Big Sur. The view is dramatic! There are many varied hiking possibilities -- down to the beaches or up into redwood forest.
