This vacation home is the kind of vacation home you might visit to write a book or just get away from it all. Enjoy views of bald eagles, deer, blue heron, osprey, and salmon right off the deck. In addition to the natural beauty, the home was designed with your complete comfort in mind, with high ceilings, mahogany floors, and a huge kitchen and bar area. It is located 45 miles from Seattle, just 6 miles outside the charming town of Gig Harbor, Washington. The vacation rental is also close to Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, Mount St Helens, and many other great Washington State destinations.

There are 2 sleeping areas, separated from the living area and from each other by partition walls, but no doors. There is a king-size pillow-top mattress with hotel quality sheets, right in front of one fireplace. The other sleeping area has a queen bed and a twin bed, with an extra mattress on request.

The luxurious beds and tranquil silence ensure restful nights, from which you will wake to stunning views of the bay and wildlife.

A KITCHEN WITH A VIEW. Prepare the day's catch with a complete view of the bay and stream. The kitchen includes top-quality appliances, commercial grade cookware, a professional knife set, as well as complete sets of wine glasses, cups, plates and silverware for six. The kitchen and bar area is a great place to cook as well as chat between the kitchen and the living room while you prepare a romantic dinner for two or cook up the days catch for the family.

For anyone who has never experienced a true Alaska-style salmon stream*, it's pretty incredible! The freshwater stream is very clear. You can see the fish right from the deck. And of course, the eagles are there for the salmon as well. The Salish House is also home to cranes, osprey and other bird life. It's the Discovery Channel right outside your door.

THE HOME IS LOCATED five miles outside of downtown Gig Harbor, Washington (a 45 mile drive from Seattle). Local shopping, dining, art galleries, a day spa, and theater are just minutes away, or you can go a bit further and take in Seattle, Mount Rainier, Mount St Helens, or the Olympic Rainforest. The location of the house is perfect for those looking to experience the great outdoors as well as have fun in the city or just relax in secluded elegance.

ACTIVITIES ARE PLENTIFUL. The property is just three miles from Horseshoe lake and Horseshoe lake golf course. In addition, it's within a 20 minute drive of three world class courses: McCormick Woods, Trophy Lake and Gold Mountain. Kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking and beach combing are popular activities in the area as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know what a wonderful time we had in your vacation property. The home was just perfect! Great kitchen and living room and even though the sleeping quarters weren’t real private it was great fun having the family all together. Everyone had a perfect time. We particularly enjoyed watching the eagles on a daily basis. Having the back yard scenery change from a stream to a lake was really entertaining for the kids.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

Wildlife wonderland in a cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We spent the Christmas/New Year holidays in this cozy cabin. The 2 gas fireplaces added warmth as well as ambiance to the living and bedrooms. The kitchen was better equipped than any rental we’ve ever been in. Communication with the owner was also the best!

One of the things that stood out in the previous reviews was description of the wildlife in the creek behind the property. It was incredible, we saw what we think were river otters, eagles seagulls, hawks and different type of ducks. Never tired of watching the wildlife.

Fantastic space, beautifully crafted with a lovely view

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect spot for a reunion with college friends. Great to hang around the fire and open kitchen catching up, watch wildlife outside, and close enough to to Hood Canal for a day hike and exploring. Definitely recommend this location!

Amazing Location and Quality House.

  • 5 of 5

A true getaway. From the moment we drove up we knew we were in a different world. The deck with a view provided us hours of entertainment watching eagles, seals, herons and salmon swimming upstream. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with great views, comfy bed and quality kitchen.

Fantastic Accomodations/Peaceful Setting

  • 5 of 5

We primarily selected the location to be able to make day trips into Seattle as well as sites in Rainier and Olympic National Parks. However, the unique setting off of Car Inlet and close to Gig Harbor was a wonderful bonus. Salmon swimming up stream during low tide and bald eagles feeding was a common sight right from the deck. The home was furnished with everything we had hoped for to prepare meals and up coming excursions ... and then privately relax after a day of culture activities, hiking or kayaking. The open style worked great for our family experience.

Salish House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Salish House for 7 nights with our very good friends. The large sleeping area is not completely private, but the beds were very comfortable and there is some separation so that each bed can not be viewed from the other. The home is beautiful and well appointed. We felt right at home there. The location is quiet and the views are stunning. Our favorite part of the stay was watching the wildlife on Minter Creek in the mornings and late afternoons. We would begin the day with coffee sitting on the beautiful deck watching the many bald eagles and kingfishers. The afternoons brought in a high tide and the look of the wildlife would change. Salmon fingerlings were released from the hatchery while we were there, and that brought abundant activity especially from the eagles. The location was about 10-15 minutes from downtown Gig Harbor which was perfect for shopping and dining. We were about 30 minutes from Bremerton which made catching a ferry into Seattle convenient. We made several meals together at the house, and everything we needed was available. Claire has put together a binder with suggested activities to do in the area. We used this information to locate several trailheads for hiking. Claire was wonderful to work with and readily and quickly answered our questions. This is a home that we will definitely visit in the future.
